I wouldn’t like if AFL went international. But I think it would be cool if more international people played In the league. As much as people for some reason hate mason Cox you have to give him props for the fact that he signed a contract and moved country for a sport he has hardly knows. It will be cool if there are people all around the world trying to get in the AFL internationally like Australians want to get into the NFL, NBA and even something like the premier league.

That was detrimental to the competition and should be avoided where possible.
The Argentinean side and the Japanese side have been scrapped. They've realised the best thing for those countries is to promote their own domestic league and let that develop rather than joining other ones. If anything, it's been a learning lesson.
If you look at super rugby now, the South African sides might very well join the European rugby competitions to avoid time zone issues (which has always been an issue for super rugby).
Australia and New Zealand are looking at either:
      1. doing a trans-tasman comp with one another; or
      2. just doing their own domesticrugby comps; or
      3. Each doing their a domestic style super rugby comp but then the top sides play off in an international super rugby comp, hopefully with south African sides and potentially with room for Japanese, Argentinean, Polynesian or American sides. That is like an inter-league play-off which we already see in Europe's soccer and rugby club comps.
Having such a globally expanded single competition isn't such a crazy idea but it sure as well isn't an ideal one. There's massive cost, travel and time zone implications. If the game doesn't grow as intended then it's even worse.
AFL is commercially strong the way it is, which is the most important thing. Unfortunately it isn't global which isn't any fun. Any half decent rugby player can go over seas to Europe, Americas or Asia and get paid to play rugby. That's something aussie rules players miss out on.

currently the best way to go at this stage, is broadcasting rights, change the timeslot games are televised around the USA and try to advertise it, with the chances of buildng interest. there is already a certain amount of interest in the USA, through the United States Australian Football League (USAFL), but there needs to be more development in the future, a major way to accomplish this, is by having developmental programs for Americans interested in playing Aussie Rules, it might take a number of years, but in the long run, it may yield results.

Mate, I've been looking for a channel like yours for a very long time now... I have an interesting prospect/question for you: what do you think about making a compilation video of every V.F.L./A.F.L. year to date? Of course, the first few decades would only have some borrowed information from Wikipedia and other places, you can get some pictures/videos and show the ladder after certain rounds; show the important key match-ups that year; and they (the first few decades, that is) should only go for 4-5 minutes, but once you get around the 70s and onwards, each video can go for 15 minutes or so. It could be something similar to the compilations the Brownlow medal shows when they go through each week, one by one. You could have a massive playlist, and it'd get tens of thousands of views. It'd be amazing! Yes, it's a lot of work, but I think, if anyone's up for it, you are. Your channel's very professional. Think about it, will you? :)

Thanks for the video extravers. I really enjoyed it. Top stuff👍 I have a had a fascination with this particular subject for a while aswell. I, like you, believe Aussie rules football is destined for world domination. With all our clever marketing campaigns and tv rights we have undertaken over the decades, we have yeilded very little traction . I believe we have been tackling this beast the completely wrong way. Instead of starting at the top we should be starting at the bottom. Instead of trying to start a league from scratch and investing millions we should be doing the opposite. To put it simply we should be investing in kids. If the AFL shift their focus on a much younger generation this expansion dream will have an easier path in coming to fruition. I suggest each existing AFL club allocate a town or region of the United states to set up base. And each of those Clubs introduce an Auskick program in all the local schools. Strictly from grades 1-5. And maintain that for 5 years... Then we double down on the same process, this time including junior high for another 5years. As the decade draws to a close the AFL would have indoctrinated thousands of children to the fundamentals of our game. Those kids teach other kids and so on and so on. Essentially letting the children spread the word about our game themselves. But the real kicker is that with each region establishing a kinship with that particular club back home we have created the talent pool this guy was striving for. And then the flow on effect is in full motion. The striking thing about this approach is that each club back home would have created a brother club in the United States essentially creating a US branch of the same club. With a possible future of one club in two leagues, the USAFL and the premiere Australian Football League. . Anyway let me know what you think. And if you could do a hypothetical episode about it one day. Cheers👍

They totally did it wrong....🥴🥴🥴 You don't start a club or a league straight away... 🤬🤬🤬
EACH AFL club should just pick a region in the USA to do AUSKICK for 10 years.... ONLY CHILDREN... the game would grow from there..
That way EACH AFL club has a brother club... Essentially the same club.. with a US base.. that FEEDS into the AFL.. the league will grow from there....
THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN... there is no stopping it. AFL WILL.BE. A COSMOPOLITAN SPORT.. the issue is the SHAPE....
This plan of attack takes away the need of big financial backers... With a strong grass roots approach the financial backers start lining up and start waiting for YOU..

@@gogogeedus I know it’s been a year, but I kind of like that. I know a lot of Americans who are proud of their heritage (even if it is very slim or about 20 billion generations haha) would find it easier to relate to the local club (bit like Massachusites with the Celtics)

They should make it like soccer leagues around the world not add international teams to the AFL. THen they could have a champions league after the other countries embrace the sport. It would be so mint!

    • @ratedpending
      @ratedpending Před 3 lety

The only thing is a lot of soccer leagues do have international teams in their league systems, just that they're neighboring. Canadian teams in the US leagues, Sammarinese teams in the Italy leagues, Monégasque teams in the French leagues, Andorran teams in Spain, etc.
However, I definitely think that an AFL Champions league would be extremely interesting
