    Oh My GOD! I literally completed THE FIRST DATABASE ever! I remember listening to you YEARS ago and immediately turned the video off due to a headache and dumped the air table; however, due to circumstances too elaborate to go into detail here, I circled back to the air table and I guess due to my recent viewing history (good old algorithm), it brought you back! Thank you for such attention to detail in your explanation and I'll be sure to continue learning from and following you.

One question - I find the form on Softr a bit limiting. i have created a form on Typeform to update my Airtable which is linked to the Softr site. Would you know how a new record from my Typeform form is added to Softr via Airtable after I have set it up?

    • @GarethPronovost

      I love the typeform UI, so I don't blame you! You can build an automation that takes a new form submission and automatically adds it to Airtable. It will then show up automatically in Softr.

    Thank you so much, I'm starting my Airtable journey so this is a wonderful resource. In terms of process though this method has us 1) entering client detail in the client tab, 2) entering invoice details on that tab, then 3) assigning that invoice number back to the client on the client tab. I'm trying to get my head around why you wouldn't add the client name into the invoice details tab and remove that third step? Is it because you'd have to enter the name against each item whereas using the Client tab means you only have to assign an invoice number against the client once?

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  Před rokem

      Excellent, welcome to the channel! You may wish to watch our updated video for 2023 here: czcams.com/video/kU5M8MgkM-A/video.html
      To your question, we want to link the client to the invoice because if we add it to the detail then we have to add the client for every detail. This really comes down to how your data relates. In our case, an invoice is comprised of many services, but only one client, so the connection is best made between the invoice and client and then another connection between invoice and details.
      Hope this helps!

    Gareth are there any bots you recommend to move records from one table to another at a certain pace

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  Před 11 měsíci

      I'd question the need to do so before going further down this path. Typically there's a design flaw in the database if moving records from one table to another is required. Preferred options work with status fields but keep the data in one table

    How to tune the ROLLUP function there to count only for the invoice 1001 and not everything in the field? In the present state it is only one invoice, and if there were more than one, would that roll up still be smart enough? Or some additional tuning required I suspect.

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  Před 2 lety +1

      The roll-up will only aggregate values from records that are linked to it, so it will only include those that are connected to the particular invoice. You may also add a condition to the roll-up. For example, only include the linked records that were created after a specific date.

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  Před 2 lety +1

      LOL! You're not wrong, this went a bit deep for "beginners" as the video went on...
      To your question about using a table vs. using a drop-down field (Single select or Multi select) it's more art than science. The big determinant is whether there are multiple fields you have to track within the selection. If no, then a select field should suffice, but you may need to upgrade it to a linked table in the future...

      It's a function / word / thing that's very common in this field. Basically, it's taking two (or more) things and making them one.
      In math, adding 1 and 1 is 2. But if you concatenate 1 and 1, it's 11. Often used with cells.
