You are such a benefit to this hobby. Not only the level of detail, but the quality of video you take just sets you a part. I’m so glad to see your success over the years. Keep up the good work and thanks for all you do. I’ve learned a ton about corals from you!
Thanks 👍
Wasn’t going to watch this as I watched the previous coral spotlight on zoas that Tidal Gardens posted years ago. Very glad I did watch it after all. Soooo much awesome information.
Glad you enjoyed it
Just got my first zoas a few weeks ago, so glad this came out. Thanks than!

Great video. Very informative! I would like to see your trouble shooting Zoa issues you mentioned! I’ve only been in the hobby about a year but Zoas have quickly become my addiction!

Great info! Hope you are able to do some more videos like this for easy to medium difficulty soft corals and gorgonians. Not everyone can or wants to keep only SPS.
definitely would love to see the zoa troubleshooting (dip) video!
Than, please do a video on the oulophyllia coral. I just got the tri-color from you and it’s freaking beautiful, but I’d love to know more about it and your videos are really good and filled with info! PS so far, by far you’re the best retailer of corals shipping/ packaging was so good and the corals so super happy compared to other vendors I’ve brought from. Thanks for being one of the best in the biz

I have been following you for a while and I'm more than certain that the tidal gardens community that you have delicately crafted can agree with my vote...... You are the Bob Ross of coral care and information. All we're waiting for to confirm this is for you to say "we don't call them accidents... they're just happy little mistakes"
Love zoas! Great beginner coral turned designer!

Such valuable information thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great 👍 info sir! Thanks much!
Amazing video :D !
I had zoas when I first bought a small tank. They were ok, but then began to die off. I had to do so much research and finally bought Red Sea Coral Salt and bought ZOAS four days ago. I don't have a chiller, so it's risky (living in Thailand) to keep anything coral because it's too hot. However, I turn on the air to make sure the room temperature doesn't plummet. After four days, the ZOAS are looking BEAUTIFUL. Feeding themn some great food and I have a brain coral that's enjoying the environment, too. Ten gallon with no fish (had a huge fish die off so just learning about water now and making sure I quarantine ALLLL LIVEEEESTOCKKK).
Hi There! I really enjoy watching your videos. I've been struggling recently with my finger leather coral and there doesn't seem to be any videos as informative as yours out there. I am hoping you can see this comment and possibly do a coral spotlight episode on the Finger Leather Coral. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Great video Than, look forward to seeing more 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
great video
Great information keep it up.
Thanks!
Awesome vid
Finally!
"this isn't red lobster" 😂😂😂😂
thats what i wanted to say lol
looking forward to the zoa troubleshooting guide! Several colonies of my zoas are struggling, while other colonies right next to them (and on a frag rack) are doing perfectly fine. I don't see any pests, so my friend suggested maybe it could be fungal? Everything else in the mixed reef tank is doing great, and my parameters are fine. It's weird, because I also lost a colony of duncans the same time half my zoas started going downhill.
Now, some of the polyps are opening again after a month or so being closed up.... There are still many polyps still closed up while other zoas next to them have never closed at all during this ordeal. I am so confused lol
Super, ultra, mega, amazing video 😆 🤣 😂 congrats
Thanks 😆
"This isn't Red Lobster" Ha Fantastic information. Thank you.
Great video, a question for you. I have some Utter Chaos in my tank, they seem happy enough, they are budding and colourful. When I see the animals in the source tank they have large tentacles, in my tank the tentacles have shrunk, is that a light thing or water chemistry?
Regard to locations found in the sea ive seen and collected zoas tht are growing i very large colonies on the water level of ironshore where they are periodically exposed to air when the waves crash so for shore zoas love high light and super high flow
Love zoas
I'm really curious about the morphs of the 9nes that are almost solid cyan. Like end of don't eat anything from the tank
Watch out for orange spot rabbitfish. I've had an issue with one eating zoas.
I can wait just as much... if the next vid is just as good.... (lying, I really cannot wait :) )
would seeing a coral or anenome expelling zozantheli mean you should drop light intensity slightly?
I have a 20g long with thriving war coral and red cap monti and a hammer. Everytime I've tried zoas, they melt. Any ideas on what would allow those to thrive but zoas to do so poorly?
This isn’t red lobster!! Best line I’ve heard in awhile!
“This isn’t Red Lobster” 😂
I know it may be a bit too much to ask for but is it possible to make a video about corals that will still look beautiful in white light like pulsing zenia? I cant find any video about it.
I have one type of zoa growing like crazy and a few different types closed up or not doing good right be side it.
I saw Rasta zoas for the first time yesterday, insanely small. Like 1/8” wide polyps, if that
they get bigger than that for sure just those ones must not have been super healthy... they are a smaller zoa just not that small...
The instant ocean reef crystals .....is it good salt ?? I just got a bucket.. I started out with regular instant ocean.... But have reef crystals now
Dude I'm going to eat all my tangs after watching this video!
Do you have any insight regarding zoa melting? I think my frag is going through deterioration and curious what might be recommended to stop/reverse this process
Have you seen this video? czcams.com/video/gKDSsfwe6Gw/video.html
So what would be the issues you'd see at 2000 par in a tank can I ask ?
I bought some zoa's at a Petco boy was a mistake had to dip them....but I'm trying to figure out what kind they are they look like a dark purplish brown color and glow orange under light I cannot find them in all the zoa's I look at
6:21 what kind of spa is that?
My rasta zoa colony yellow tentacles turned dark bluish brown on the polyps facing upward. The colony is continuing to grow fast. It is just under around 120- 155 par. Anyone else experience this? My nitrates did slowly increase from 4 to 12 as well. Mostly due to switching out a failed red sea seam aquarium and I reduced nopox to increase ph. Any ideas?
What's kind of tangs was that that ate the Dino's?
When it comes to feeding... are we talking about weekly, every other day, dayly?
Another thing on pest are sponges
can you please talk about galaxea coral 😎
I don't suppose you know whether Rastas or Sunny D's are particularly toxic? I just don't want to get sick if a rock falls and squashes them. Also, if I need to cut some off a rock underwater in my scape, do I need to worry about the other animals in there?
16:53 when you say "very, very high NO3," how high is that in ppm?
any idea why my zoa's seem to be/have lost color? my cat eyes zoa have absolutely no fluorescence and are a dullish brownish/purplish with a white mouth....
Name for the zoa at 2:30? I have those but I’m minus their name
1-10 how much should I worry about getting caught by palytoxins
I have a rock full of what I have been told are anthazoas they look like mini rock flowers purple centers bright green fringe you herd of them they are cool when I feed them they close up with luminous green dots on underneath they are not majano have you herd of a anthazoa
You are not kidding about palytoxin. Its happened to me. If you are not into simultaneously bleeding from your gums, ears and nose, i would suggest using extreme caution while fragging. I thought i washed my hands very thoroughly and ate an apple after fragging and it was a very unpleasant experience.
You bled from your gums, ears, and nose? Dang I’m sorry to hear that.
When my tank was having hair algae issues I was picking hair algae out from the tank, including from between palys and other corals. Not sure if it was the algae, some other thing I touched, palytoxin, etc but I started to sneeze and have hay fever like symptoms while doing this. I got a fever a couple of hours later and just felt bad. Felt fine the next day.
Definitely some sort of short term allergic reaction to something. Haven’t had it since, but I also have had a different tank since then!
@@ShadowTheNinjaKitty yea it was really crazy. I am assuming i pretty much ate the toxin. It was probably under my finger nail. You know when u eat apples little pieces get stuck in your teeth. It started day on as a gum infection, then on the second day ear infection after that it was all down hill. Yea i have had friends with similar symptoms as you. This stuff is no joke.
I know this is and old vid… got to ask.. I have the very invasive brown/green paly that is taking over my tank by the thousands ..I want to get rid of them, Is there any way other than doing a tank reboot (start over).
As a side note: I even tried a
Soaking a rock in muriatic acid, then a soak in fresh water for weeks,,, and the bastards survived.
I don’t actually own any reef tanks, but I think you might have a nice business opportunity….
Hey I have that toxic Tang! What name do you guys know it by? My LFS sold it to me as a “Brioni” tang. Closest thing I can find on google is a striated surgeon fish. Mine is such a great algae grazer, so no way I’d eat him lol.
Ctenochaetus striatus
@@tidalgardens Thanks!
What are those zoas at 5:37?
Speckled Agave
@@tidalgardens thank you! I like them a lot
Anyone know the name of the one at 3:00?
Rastas or Bob Marley maybe?
Number 68 on the likes!
But what if i get a tank just for lobsters!?!?! Could it be red lobster then!!!!
this isn't red lobster lmao , im going too give you a follow
Troubleshoot zoa video PLEASE. PLEASE... my zoos don't do that bad but I always have one zoa frag/colony acting pissy
my phosphate went to 0, 4/8 of my Zoanthids died:(
"dont eat stuff from your tank, this isnt red lobster" had me dying
Too clean is worse for sure than too much. They will almost always die in ultra low nutrients given enough time, and their color will disappear.
I can't get my zoa's to their true colors. 🤷🏽♂️
This isn’t Red Lobster 😂😂😂
I eat all the fish in my tank😹 jk
