  • The Daviess County Fire Department participates in a joint training with the Henderson Fire Department.
High Angle Rope Rescue involves terrain with a slope of 60 degrees or greater. In these scenarios, firefighters rely entirely on ropes and other specialized hoisting equipment to rescue people who are stranded.
Assistant Chief Eric Coleman says the technique may be utilized in an industrial setting or a remote location in the woods, where a patient is off the ground.
The Fire Department is able to use an onsite training tower to practice High Angle Rope Rescue.

    Quick question,
I had some high angle rescue training. I remember hearing at some point in the past, I had heard that you’re not supposed to use mechanical advantage in a high angle rescue situation.
The reasoning if I recall was because of the Patient got caught up on anything, with mechanical advantage, the pull team could dismember the patient.
    Is this a thing?

It kinda is. I’m not sure if it’s NFPA mandated. But, i’ve been told to not use anymore then a 15 to 1 MA for that reason.

Good video. Why are you still using manual locking carabiners? You seem to be using other state of the art gear (Petzl harness, ASAP Lock, etc).

@@trevethan82319841I beg to differ. first during rescue anything that can go wrong will go wrong and forgetting to lock a carabiner can be fatal. Second self locking is required by federal law (29CFR1910)

Tri locks are good but in a rescue scenario I personally find manual biners easier to unlock with one hand.
