A socket back box with a fixed screw lug does not need a separate earth link. If both screw lugs are adjustable (Not permanently fixed to the box) then you would need to do a separate earth link to the metal back box.

You can actually buy drill attachments that cuts square boxes for these jobs

open question - why was a backbox earth fly lead not installed - not required?
Wouldn't the back box be bonded using the screws used to hold the socket onto it as the earthing strap on the socket also earths the screws?

I’m a DIYer some sockets use screws to form the cpc but I still prefer a dedicated cpc cable.
