I come across this fault while doing an EICR, didnt have time to find the fault, so C2/FI'd it and failed the EICR to the house. Was I right in doing this?
Hi, I have my 2365 level 3 fault finding and test and inspection exams on Wednesday and your videos are so so helpful, thanks. At the age of 51 and a complete career change this may help me keep me up to speed with fault finding on the course and beyond. For everyone out there you are never too old to change careers!
I’m doing the 5357 C&G Apprenticeship, this video has been some help! My college is an absolute embarrassment, they never do anything to this level of detail. Thank you so much for making this available to me to learn from. I worry about my AM2s because I’m not getting the proper practical experience :/
Had this problem to solve in a recent job interview. Totally forgot how to do it. These videos are great if you become a little unskilled during your career and need a little refresher.
I started watching your video from level 1 and here I’m doing level 3 I didn’t struggle throughout all the way because of your perfect videos.thank so much for both of you!
Nice video. Separated as 2 radials. You could tell it was the wiring in the socket because a reading at the socket was not detected over either leg. All sockets would give readings over both legs if the cable was damaged in the wall, the highest reading at the socket on each leg denotes end of line, the break is between those 2 sockets. Test continuity between sockets to confirm.
It's great you give the apprentice some fault finding teaching. At least it gives them a place to start at 👍👍. I have come across many a fault in my time 👍
Really good and simple way of demonstrating how to find faults in ring finals, as my tutors at college use a different method which is way more complicated but yours is really easy to understand which was needed as I'm sitting my fault finding assessment tomorrow
Literally have this problem with my kitchen ring. Just 2 sockets stopped working even though one side of the ring still had power that was going to one of the mentioned sockets which I have since checked with the working side of the cable and it's fine...aah the joys 😂 just as I was away to tile my kitchen backsplash as well....something else for my misses to moan at me about 😅
Very well presented and an invaluable tool regardless of experience. Thanks guys. I would definitely like to see more of this style. Much appreciated as always.
Fault finding videos are where it's at folks! How about covering intermittent faults and line to earth faults due to damp in a socket (seems to be a big hit for me at the minute). Showing the quickest way to find both issues perhaps? There is quicker ways of finding faults rather than splitting down rings again and again for example
Great video. Personally I'd find this far easier to understand with the addition of schematic diagrams, but the important question is whether your learners would find them helpful or confusing?
This is very much the fault finding method I was taught in college but I get called out about three times a week now for tripping RCDs. There’s always continuity - it’s the LN-E IR that is always the issue. Never seen any tutorials on fault finding that!
Thanks Gaz and Marcus. As a learner anything in fault finding is a great help. Any chance you could do a video on using IR to fault find on a ring (final!!) circuit?
Really appreciated, how nicely and briefly you’re explaining these stuff. Admirable I just want to say if any chance you upload videos with subtitles, it will be help us more to understand, who can’t understand English properly. Thanks
Great stuff - I have to do some fault finding for a client. The problem - no continuity on the neutrals!! Guess how I’m going to pinpoint where the problem is????
the council sent some kind of electrician to do an electrical safety test, - he found that the ring main (on my mums flat) has a fault! ...but did not have one of those testers (I want one! ;) )... this winter, when I am bored, I might fix it...
let’s say you do the end to end on the live for example then and you get a really high resistance reading, how would you go about locating the fault then using the ohms setting as this is the only setting your allowed to use in AM2
GSH Electrical Nice one mate. Just saying since qualified have come across lots of jobs with hating system faults and feel it’s something not covered deep enough in learning programme.
@@alanmarriott9216 it's because in reality you can't disconnect all items on circuit and youre never sure if it's a fault you're finding or some resistance on an electronic item
At 3:10 you say you split the circuit into 2 radials. That wording is confusing. How can you say 2 radials when it is more like a single radial !!! Please clarify if what i am saying makes sense. I may not be understanding exactly what you mean. On saying that this video is excellent and i really appreciate it. Thank you.

Morning, how did you get on with that exam ?
Have you gone through the 2391-52 course?

No problem 😁
Excellent tutorial by the young man- all testament to you Gaz (along with the College)
Thanks for the lovely message 👍
Great video... Something that you find quite often during an EICR 👍
Thanks
Great video!!! Would love to see more fault finding related videos please!
On maybe lighting if possible?

It would be most excellent if you guys done more fault finding , ..great work guys..thank you
Fantastic demonstration
Always learn something and it’s good to refresh your memories and keep on top of it.
Fantastic video guy’s as always
👍👍❤️
That is how you teach. Excellent.
Massive thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Excellent video. That’s the way I used to train my Apprentice 👍
Excellent video, thanks guys, really enjoying these videos on fault finding.

Nice one!! Just because its not tidy.. Doesn't mean it's not safe!!
Please do more of these 😁 thanks guys, really helpful

Great practical demonstration and advise for fault finding, great video very handy learning reference 👍
Excellenty explained. How many students have put the 3.5mm faceplate screws, in their mouths when taking those faceplates off. 😮
Great video mate, brilliantly explained and I appreciate the fact you ask questions that leaners would ask.

Wish you were my lecturer 👨🏫
Loved this video both well done lads glad I'm a sparkie inspector now the cowboys now adays are unreal
Great video 👍🏻
Thanks
Be good to see a similar method chasing missing neutral in a lighting circuit 👍
Lighting is a radial. If there was a fault with the line or neutral the lights after the fault wouldn't work.
what a brilliant video
Great learning points here but also new style Kitchen 'Radials' also need to be taken into account
Thanks very much for examples God bless you.
Thanks for watching 👍

well done great job
Nice tutorial. Could you have substituted the CPC for the Line when making the link for continuity ?
Love the video!
You mention that this is one approach to determining the location of a broken conductor. Would you care to list the others?
Or even some content on heating systems/wiring/fault finding as find it’s never covered enough when in the syllabus
Thanks Alan, got some videos on DOL both single and 3 phase coming soon 👍.

Have you joined line of one leg with neutral of other? And would it matter if you did or didn’t?
Can I ask then please. If installation is wired in conduit singles and legs arent marked up how can you determine them?
Could you please do video of level 3 design drawing 🙏
Was such a video ever made in a real life, unoccupied house situation? That would be a great learning piece, too.
What about fault finding when singles are used and each leg is not marked please
👍🏻
Thanks for the information, buh if i may ask why do you call the earthing line cpc? Please allow me to understand this! Thanks
The circuit conductor that is green and yellow is the CPC circuit protective conductor 👍🏻

This type of video will appear on my eFIXX youtube channel at some point 👍. Thanks for commenting and watching. Gaz
Is there any videos to show testing when only 1 neutral for example is connected please?
Niceeee workkk
Thanks a lot for these videos, would the board not be isolated, even during fault finding? Cheers.
Great vid once again, well explained. Thanks for sharing. 🐵
I have a ring circuit that has tripped and I can't get it back on it goes to trip straight away
Brilliant thank you :)
how can u have continuity between live ant neutral ????
Hi, why didn’t the single socket have a reading when the other leg of the ring was in a connector block? Thanks
Great as always! Any plans to do fire alarms installation since not many on YT that l could find? Thks
Sadly fire alarm systems are not coved on the courses we deliver. Thanks for commenting and watching. Gaz 👍🏻

Can I do this with a multi meter by placing the probes in the holes? Or would it shock me??
Hi gus can you please make a fault finding video on two way and intermediate lighting aswel? Kind Regards
