  • How to simulate a servo encoder pulses to an Allen Bradley Compactlogix PLC high speed counter motion control applications using the PLC Tools SIM-S24 Servo Simulator. The 1769-L24ER-QBFC1B, 1769-L27ERM-QBFC1B, and the 1769-HSC all have the high speed counter (HSC) functionality. You can use the PLC Tools servo simulators to simulate your motion control applications before you have the hardware available.

    I've always wondered when I've seen conveyor applications with encoders set up, how they come to calculate the maths to calculate the physical speed of the conveyor. I can happily fit and set up an encoder, to actually calculate various physical line speeds such as m/min is something I've not delved into

      Most conveyors will run in "open loop" which means that when you set the drive to 60 hz, it runs 100% speed and when you set the drive to 30 hz, you "assume" it is running 50% speed without any actual feedback.

      @@TimWilborne Yes understand that, but some applications you want to know the physical speed of the conveyor such as how many m/min it is achieving. I know that's a calculation based on the output from vfd taking into effect the motor gearbox size and ratio to the physical shift size diameter to get the physical rpm. However just wondered how people achieve that math as I always see it already calculated never been the guy to do it from scratch

    Hii. I don't have much experience in this field (2 years working on). There's a factory where I provide automation services, and the transport chain is not moving continously (apparently with small pulses, like when one car is pulling another but the rope is not tensioned). I think this is because the slack in the chain, not because some slip in the motor (visually it appears to have continuous moviment in the gearbox output shaft. The chain is after this part). In this case, a have to show that the motor is okay and ir have an encoder, but the PLC is 1769-L19ER BB1B, and I don't have any module with HSC input. So, I can't read an encoder, right? Or there is another way that I can do that?
