  • Last Wednesday the Health Minister, Maria Caulfield claimed on this program that there are significantly more Dentists seeing NHS patients. However, The British Dental Association says that just is not true and in some cases people are traveling hundreds of miles for essential emergency care.
    The chairman of the British Dental Association, Eddie Crouch joins GMB today to explain why dentists aren't taking on more NHS patients. And we hear from Matt Bamford, who says he's been waiting for an NHS dentist for ten years.

    I'm with an NHS dentist and he complains that people do not turn up for appointments. If they don't turn up /cancel two appointments consecutively, he has to remove them from his books. I'm going in just over an hour to have a back molar extracted - I'm dreading it but, I know at least I'm having local anaesthetic

    The NHS website she mentioned is a joke. A lot of the ‘taking NHS patients’ practices listed aren’t actually taking any when you ring them

    I was kicked off by my nhs dentist even though I had been attending. They just want you to go private and pay loads of money. Which doesn't help low income earners

    Yes, they might be on the website for show, because when you call they say not taking new nhs pati

    I wrote to my local MP about the lack of NHS dentist in her constituency, this was back in January. She is still waiting for the Department of Health and Social Services to give her an answer. By the way my MP is the Rt Hon Victoria Atkins, Secretary of State for Health and Social Services. She has been waiting for over three months for an answer form herself.

    Health is your wealth. Get a private dental plan. There is no way i would sit there waiting for an appointment. You can get sepsis from infection

      This is a good idea for people who can afford it but for some people it's just not an option.

    It's the same here in Northern Ireland It's disgusting..

      @AB-et1ug Před 4 měsíci

      Exactly they literally are pulling peoples teeth because they won't give you am appointment then claim they can't save the tooth. Northern Ireland is diabolical. The health of people comes secondary tooth infections can lead to cardiac issues like endocarditis through infections left untreated by a complete & utter lack of Dentists and it has not improved at all it has got worse.

    • @AB-et1ug
      @AB-et1ug Před 4 měsíci

      Yes it is the Dentist here are prepared to remove teeth rather than attempt to save them because they claim expense time etc also they have no answer to leaving you in agony with infections that can lead to endocarditis if left untreated as every good Dentist knows. Northern Ireland is an absolute disgrace - NHS patients are treated like garbage 2nd class citizens

    Well, I live in Lewes and can confirm none of the dentists are taking on nhs patients .
    My dentist left the NHS after lockdown .
    Took on a trainee, and he then decided to leave the NHS 2 years later .
    NO dentist in Lewes is taking on new patients .

    The question asked by Suzanna at 18.37 is key. The reasons why so many dentists have gone private are valid. Sadly too many will have realised how lucrative private dentistry can be and wont wish to return to providing NHS card's even if under a revised contract. Sadly the UDA based contract introduced in 2006 has been a disaster.

    The dentistry method has to change from root... It's not possible for a dentist to run a NHS practise with claiming of UDAs.. and hence system pulls dentistry clinics moves away from govt support... Bringing oversees dentists without exam and expecting them to give NHS care is a joke

    Why didn't he go 10 years to see a dentist?This is the question they have to ask! Do not blame the system !
    And the other one, her teeth are loose because she cannot see a dentist 😂😂😂 blame the dentists for your neglect and smoking.....is this a joke TV!

      Because he hasn't been able to find a practice taking on patients. Did the whole point of this video go over your head? It can be very hard to find a dentist on the NHS depending on where you live.

    Asked them how many times they brush their teeth a day ? They do not go to dentists only if they have a problem … to late mate , no sympathy what so ever. From a child it should be a must every year for a check up, then no one would have problems as bad as we have heard, ridiculous behaviour by the public in general, lazy and ignorant.

  • @deshawn53988

    Universal
    Dental care is not a right. Take a than air flight to Greece or Spain and get your teeth fixed. Stop whining. I have absolutely no sympathy. No other country offers public dental. No where! Take your benefit money save it and get the teeth fixed

      "Take your benefit money and save it" ? What exactly does that mean?

    • @scottwales9178
      @scottwales9178 Před 4 měsíci

      Yes of course! People should just hop on a plane and fly to a foreign country whenever they have an issue with their teeth. No sympathy as everyone can afford that. That's much better than the government making dental care accessible to everyone.

    Prevention is a better way, clean your teeth and mouth 2-3 times a day.
