    One of the best ways to understand the Holy Spirit is to take a very close look at what Jesus says in John 14:21-23, and read it over and over until you understand what He is actually saying there. That He IS the Father, and they together ARE the Holy Spirit. Isaiah 9:6 and John 4:24 are references to help understand this.

    Slight concern: NTW in New Testament in its World consistently describes the Holy Spirit as 'holy spirit' and seems to downplay the personhood of the Spirit (with only 2 scant references to the Paraclete -the other 'Helper'). Similarly in this clip there is no mention that the Spirit is a Person -(and incidentally little mention of the charismata -the power of the Spirit). It seems more Binitarian than Trinitarian?

      The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God as NT Wright says. It is clearly not person, or Person as you put it although I don't know what you are trying to convey by capitalising it. A person is a distinct personality that has private experiences that are not accessible to anyone else and it's own moral values. Thus it's not an appropriate term for the Holy Spirit although it's a popular term in churches today I grant you.

    • @fromanabe8639
      @fromanabe8639 Před 4 lety

      The Holy Spirit is not a separate person. The Holy Spirit is God, the Father's spirit. God, the Father is holy and He is pure spirit. His spirit can be called the Holy Spirit but that doesn't make it another "person". The notion of the trinity came out of the Catholic church around the time of the council of Nicea in 325AD. There is no mention of the trinity in the old testament written by Jews. When Moses asked God who he should say sent him, God told him "I am that I am", say "I am" sent you. Notice the singular personal pronoun "I"... not "we".

    i am one such person on earth thats done these THINGS and come out whole. after years of going round and round with scriptures. One day i was hit with a call from God to read the SPIRIT side of the bible. the bible tells me that this side SAVES. 2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. there was part of the bible where Jesus asks us to come to Him as a Child. as i meditated and activated the 7 churches within my midst, my son/soul appeared, and began the climb up my chakras to Mother/Holy Ghost. She and my brother sat there and torched my Lower Mind till it came clean, and sided with it ... Father and Mother were together at last.
    It was a long time on the other side of life with the Strange Woman of scripture . but she held me tight and i was to find out IT was Gods curse, SLUMBER, that we had to believe at all cost that the Word was true, till He calls us. That he was a FATHER not a GOD, it was only one of the being called Lucifer . For God is, He and Holy Ghost, not the Strange Woman of scripture. when Mother comes aboard, She and the Strange Woman have it out and we no longer follow religion, and its dogma.
    it is written ... the Earth goes dark
    the Moon goes RED
    the Stars fall to EARTH
    rumblings in Heaven
    these are our... Heads/lower mind
    religion no longer has its affects on you
    Gods council
    New Mind
    Now is you that goes OUT in Meditation ... as the moon goes red as your being filled with the holy spirit .. take council from the stars from Gods abroad ... our lower mind is brought UP to enlightenment and JOINED together with MOTHER and made WHOLE. Now we Got God. Now we have received God the RIGHT way. AND WHILE WE ARE ALIVE NOT DEAD. we have over come death and are Alive in CHRIST
    I Am Saved

    Good theology... but there seems to be something off centre in it.. i think its his lack of sense of "power" in Holy Spirit. That the Spirit always comes dynamically.. to bring ppl to God. His thrust is more mundane on new creation in the world... which equates to social action. .. or presence. Thats not the testimony of Acts.. none had the Spirit but those who visibly experience his presence. Wright needs to reread Gordon Fee (his friend) on the dynamic (and that the temple is the LOCAL church not the whole or universal church)and James Dunn (his collegue) on Acts. Many who fill our churches have never experienced the Spirit.(Acts 8:18, Galatians 3:2 & 5, 1Thess 4:8) and as such do nothing of kingdom work...Jesus work is preach the gospel, cast out demons and heal the sick.. miraculously and dynamically None of that can be done without the Spirit...never known Wright to do this.. perhaps he does

      Paul Robinson It is hard to bring a full orbed teaching on the Holy Spirit in less than 6 minutes. I believe Dr. Wright uses terms like “full measure” and “empowerment.” Too often we hear someone like Dr. Wright and expect a more nuanced characterization that is just not possible in this context. BTW, I do agree that the Holy Spirit, as my theological mentor, Dr. J. Rodman Williams would say, the Spirit comes on, is poured out, fills, empowers, convicts,etc. The point is that the Holy Spirit fully immerses us with Himself. Power is not the only aspect, however. The Holy Spirit is likened to many different things like oil, water, fire, wind, etc. He is multifaceted.

It contrasts 'under the sun' with 'before God' or 'the hand of God' (chapters 2, 3, 5, 9, 11), which shows that you are right, nothing is new under the sun, except for the work of God, who, as I understand it, 'makes all things new.'

    Lots of good passages mentioned but this fails to explain how the Holy Spirit works. Jesus said unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life in you. So, dear friends, do not be fooled by eloquent words but you must receive the spirit through either the laying on of hands or the consumption of the body and blood. These are referring to the plant that Christ came to give all people that believe in Him. He made that a prerequisite and said "Do not give to dogs that which is sacred". That which is sacred is Kaneh Bosm that grew plentiful in the area and was what God had told Moses to make the bitter water sweet. And in Exodus 30, Moses was told to make a Holy Anointing Oil from the same plant but the Bibles were corrupted so that you will not find the correct formula. Through the years, the Hebrews lost all that information but Jesus came to give this to all people that believed in Him. It provides the oil of joy and it provides supernatural empowerment. The oil was no longer reserved for just kings and priests but was for all men who believed in Jesus as the Son of God.

    • @stephentuck2970
      @stephentuck2970 Před 3 lety +1

      The language of Christ about eating and drinking his body and blood deals with how the priests would eat a portion of the sacrifices that came to the temple. Leviticus 6:16-18 is a reference that I can think of off the top of my head. So Christ is saying, in John 6:56, that you are to be gathered together over the word of the gospel like the sacrifices given in the temple to the priests. You can see Christ use similar language in John 6:56, concerning abiding in him and us in Christ, in John 15:7. That means the body and blood, which are the words of the new covenant, are what we gather together and celebrate over. That is how we have fellowship and abide in Christ through the body and blood. The sacrifices of the new covenant inaugurated through his body and blood.
