- Derek shows us the gas safety controls you will find in old and new boilers. these controls include the multifunctional gas vale the air pressure switch and flame rectification.
I’m Brian ,I’m 72,taking my gas Safe exam in two years time.Find you’re video most helpful, thanks
janegballen wow thanks for watching cheers
By far the best videos for gas video's available for trainees and engineers .
Johnny singh thanks for your time watching cheers
You're a good man Dereck, when I pass I'll definitely make time to come and visit you!
You are always welcome at tomkat 👍🏻
Brilliant video for anyone trying too gain more knowledge or new too gas industry 👌
I have my initial ACS tomorrow and I was looking for information to confirm my knowledge of controls is correct.
Thank you for your help in this video, as well as sharing some additional information I did not know before!
Victoria Banner good look tomorrow I start my reassessment tomorrow too 👍🏻
Excellent Video and explanation of the Fan proving switch.
Excellent video well worth the time to watch and learn, excellent carbon build up tip on burner ignitors etc
Another great video Derek. Back at the test centre this next week and these videos are really going to help me
Many thanks for taking the time to do them and explain them thoroughly
Mick
You are doing a great job. God may bless you. Thanks
Thanks Derek another great one learn loads of u

excellent explanation.
Thanks very good skills and knowledge explanation.
Jose
Great video mate. Keep up the good work.
Paul Cherry cheers mate thanks for watching 👍🏻
My terminal coupler was replaced as it was not holding a charge but now after a minute of the heat being on it turns off the pilot light and I lose the heat. A saftey mechanism is popping off somewhere.
very very good video sir
Great video mate 👏🏼
Lovely jubbly stuff Derek. Great insight
Allen Hart will be looking over his shoulders ;)
Hussain
well done well explained
Great vid - one of the best!
excellent job sir, please explain flame conduction thanks
Hi can you do a video on what you expected to do on your inspection
Thanks 🙏. Benny
Great refresher videos keep them up. One question some say that on a boiler like the first one a back boiler with thermo electric and testing for safety device passing, some say you are allowed the permissable drop what are your views
Once you hear the thermoelectric closeting it can drop a little bit as the valve settles on the seat but I have never heard of a permissible drop on that test but if you think about it when you do a tightness test you get 4 or 8 Mbrs with apprentice connected so maybe that’s what they mean. Thanks for your great comment and thanks for watching cheers
@@tomkatgastraining I've failed vailant heat only and glowworm hxis for drop on gas valves when off and been told I'm wrong as that's what permissable is for but to me it's a safety device.
Antony Buckley I would fail them too. The solenoid on a zero gas valve is very important when the boiler is in purge mode so if it’s passing it’s always putting unburnt gas in the combustion chamber. I have had it where the neighbours can smell the gas so in my eyes that can only be dangerous. Thanks for watching cheers
Hi Tom is the setup you shown for a back boiler atmospheric burner the same in a open flue gas boiler
Derek could you do a few videos on 15mm 22mm pipe bending please. I saw your one video where you did a semi passover into a socket. Pipe bending and soldering would be very interesting videos! Thanks!
Wayne Nixon already done a soldering video it’s the health and safety of a blow lamp and I will be doing a pipe bending video in the future. Thanks for your comment and watching cheers
@@tomkatgastraining Wouldn't miss your videos as I've been a viewer for quite a while. Glad to see your channel growing as your content is up their with DrPipe, PBPlumber and Allen Heart. But you explain things in much more details and show up examples too. Amazing content and well explained! Many thanks for taking the time to produce these videos, much appreciated.
whats the purpose of the clear tube from the air pressure switch ?
Thank you so much for the time taken to make these videos, really appreciate the all help from them
It allows differential pressures for either side of the diaphragm. If you didn’t have it then the diaphragm won’t move. Thanks for watching cheers
@@tomkatgastraining thanks!
@@tomkatgastraining hey dek thanks so much for all your videos i had a question about the aps please if the aps has a diapram inside it how does that work in conjunction with the switch that makes a switching noise when you blow down the tube could you explain about the differential pressure on both sides of the diaphragm as well please in laymen terms please
Thankyou
Love the video Derek, very helpful. Could you please tell me where you got your tube adaptor for your manometer in the video? Thanks
It came with the digital manometer when I bought it
Hiya Derek. Can you write where the continuity should and shouldn’t be on the tests you on the fan pressure switch from around 29:15? Eg what two do you mean when you lose it between these two and gain it between these two (if that makes sense)
👍👍
👍👍👌👌
Get vid Derek 👍 Aaron trainee 😁
is the file or thermostat probe working on the principle that bi metal expands on different rate when subject to heat. This mechanical movement then controls solenoid valve and regulate gas the burner via ? thanks
👍🏾
What's the name of your digital manometer? Ones iv seen are v expensive but look v useful. Does yours need calibration as well?
I got them off eBay they were about £14 and you calibrate them every time you use them so no need to send them off to be done
Is training included in the initial assessment?
I am due to sit it in a few months but didn’t know if training is included?
With us at tomkat we do a refresher day just to get the guys nerves settled but I don’t know about other centres
Ray Hurrell
I'm a learning student. I would appreciate if u could answer my question. Some aps switch have 1 2 and 3 on the terminals instead of com no and nc. What do the 1 2 and 3 stand for.
Common, normally open and normally closed
Hi Derek , if I test the thermoelectric valves on a cooker would I have to do a tightness test after every click?
Naz Kayyy no you wouldn’t unless you think it is passing and if you was testing a liquid vapour valve it still puts out gas if the flame is blown out
Pls send me controls for fire part 2. Many thanks.

Your tutorials are the best! But can I ask not to put background MUSIC if it’s possible !! PLEASE
Music went ages ago so no music now on my gas training videos 👍🏻

Never use a naked flame to find a gas leak could end way worse

What is the background music all about!!!!!!!

Is every control on every appliance always tested on a service?
Every safety device needs to be checked on a service if that’s what you mean. Thanks for watching cheers
