Thanks for motivation levy, much appreciated

Ws
How do you even get +73?
The queen is 9, the rooks are 5 each, the bishops and knights are 3 each and the pawns are 1 each which by my calculation gives 39 points of material. In order to get the remaining 34 points, you need to promote your own pawns into 2 more queens, 2 more rooks and 2 knights/bishops. That is insane.
@@barkerov chess evaluation isn’t solely based off of the point values of the pieces, in that position where the evaluation is +73, white is actually down three points of material but have an incredible advantage because of their position and such
As a 1500ish player, the pressure you feel to punish a bad opening, along with the inability to properly do so, is one of the more frustrating parts of chess.
Same case with me...I'm a 1300 and guys play some random openings and I don't really know how to punish them

@@9volt65 not really. Its only good in the endgame tbh
When someone hit gm level your realize oh this engine isn’t that good.
I can get 3+ every time or better against top engine in mid game. However, it normally ends up winning despite that. Because it lacks intuition, it basicly guesses the best line according to an algorithm then calculates it super far. In a game with a lot of pieces it struggles however with each piece you take away your ironically making it stronger as it now as less pieces to choose from
@@9volt65 I kinda gave up on chess tbh once I hit my limit. After 6 months I could calculate a max of 14 moves. Normally 12. But I physically cannot remember all the variations once it gets to that point. When I try to go further… I struggle immensely to remember all the varations and yea.
Maybe after a few years I could improve but yeah. I didn’t feel like spending countless more hours trying to just subtly improve
Winning when you're down material feels so much better than just winning regularly.
yeah, but then you start thinking and realize that it is better to not commit these mistakes in the first place.
My favorite win was when my opponent had mate in two but only three seconds left, he checked me and I had one possible move left - interpose my queen. He would then take my queen and it was checkmate. I made the move and he had about two seconds left but his clock ran out. I imagine he already thought he had checkmate and realized just a little too late. I felt uplifted by the undeserved win and went on a winning streak.
Technically white was up material when he put king into check mate.

That analogy for the army sleeping and a horse just roaming was funnier than it should have been 😭
As someone who has horses we do that just about every night. Only literally.
2 Knights attacking together is the most terrifying thing in Chess for me. If you sleep on the knights, you are in trouble very quickly.
@@overnightdelivery knights are barely a problem. The queen is a deadly piece that can force a draw. When you are in a queen vs queen and pawn endgame you feel it's power as it picks up your pawns like crazy.

At 15:56 I knew how it was going to end. Hilarious.
BTW at 17:15 by my quick count, black has 36 legal moves, and 21 of them lead to white forcing mate within a couple moves. Black's king is trapped on the back rank, and the queen has a way to force mate, so you do need to do something to respond. Even a completely ridiculous move like Qe7 (which loses your queen) is good enough, but you have to do something.
Yeah Idk why he said that only a handful of the moves lose. Most moves are losing for Black in that position, they either have to see Qa8 or get lucky.
@@Cowtymsmiesznego Only a handfull of those move lose in 1 or 2 moves; you have to take the 1.6 seconds left on white's clock into account; there was no room for 3 or 4 moves
Nah. It's mate in 2 for almost all those moves (because it would be mate in 2 if it was white to move). Levy just phrased it wrong.

king: e8, g8
knight: c6, d7
queen: a7, a5, b8, d8, d7, c6

I think that the way Levy talks about the game, he quickly brings attention to all the important features of the position, so as the viewer you start to notice the ideas just before he starts talking about them more specifically. I definitely feel the same thing when I watch these videos.
And this is why I love chess. Blunders like this can be a great equalizer.

this is why we need clocks both for GM recaps and this
The problem with modern chess is that it’s just 20moves of theory where the opponents trade pieces and one of them capitalise on their position, theirs no beauty randomness or vreativity
Gms still discover and play new positions each tournament. There is a ton of beauty in the game, especially if you're not a titled player, because then you don't actively play like a computer and after those 20 moves of theory you will create something genuine or lose
How many openings do you know 20 moves deep?
