I just happened upon this video and it is one of the best I have seen about Angelfish aggression.
agree!
Definately one of the better Angelfish videos on CZcams. Cheers Dan.
Thanks, Daniel. I'm glad you liked it.
Definitely enjoyable watching them telling each other who's boss. Then goes the quite and peaceful cories swimming by.
Cory's are perfect citizens.
Thanks ever so much. I only have two Angels right now will remedy that and I've lowered the temp.
Just found your channel. Found this video very helpful as I keep a handful of angels. They are such magnificent fish. Subbed.
do they fight like his?
Beautiful and great info!! đâ
Thanks, Officer!
Interesting how they incorporate their cichlid behaviors into sparring, without causing damage to fins. But when things turn serious there are no rules. Beautiful fish. Elegant comportment. I have two large pairs in a 55, that I got as dime sized fry. Thanks for an informative and interactive video. Really enjoy seeing these! (Rainbows were extra colorful this am!)
You are right...once a pair forms and selects a space for eggs, all bets are off. i really think the only thing to do then is to isolate the pair, especially in a smaller tank.
Glad to hear the rainbows are settling in for you. Hope they fully fire up soon, if they haven't already.
I have 1 angel fish and 1 discus, they do this as well from time too time. It's usually the angel fish that starts it but most of the time they swim together and are friends, although I'd love too have some more I don't really want too disturb the equilibrium
Fact backed up by rational with demonstration! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great info. Havenât kept and bred angels for over 25 yrs. I donât recall ever dealing with excessive aggression. Maybe I was lucky. đ€đ
Sounds like you need to get another pair :)
Very good video, thanks. I had a single Koi Angelfish with a body the size of a half-dollar. I put ten Cardinal Tetras in the aquarium one afternoon. The next morning, all of the Cardinals were gone, except for the two tails hanging out of the Angelfish's mouth!
#FatAngelFish
I appreciate your video I feel better about the healthy sparring info Hopefully they relax though I prefer it when they are calmer
Hopefully, the chill once they work things out.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO IT HELPS
Thank you!
I have 2 bonded pairs one male one female of each. Out of both pairs one of the males is a koi angel fish. They are housed in a 55gal tank with with 6 betas. Thereâs some fin nipping happening but nothing too excessive. However the Koi angel fish is ramming and cornering the other pair not letting them move around very much at all. I have plenty of live plants and a couple logs for the betas. Any help would be appreciated. Also these fish have been together for about a year now.đ
Very helpful. I used to keep African cichlids years ago but stopped because of the ongoing tank violence. Have community tanks now but just started a new planted 75 and added 5 almost quarter size angels, 4 of whom are hatch mates. While they were in QT in a bare bottom tank with floating plants only, they were fine. Now there is turf and after 6 days, lots of chasing and stare downs. There will be more line of sight breaks as the plants mature, but hoping they settle into zones quickly. They are beautiful to watch as long as everyone still feels free to enjoy the new spaces.
@Dans Fish will females also defend territories as young fish in a new tank? Will males chase females out of their spaces at this age? The odds of getting 5 males out of 5 seems small, but right now I have 4 defending a space and one apparently doesn't get a space even though it's 75 gallons đ
I have four angels in my 55, with two pearl gourami and various tetras.
Everyone gets along great.
I have 2. Should I get more
@@omlet1231 why not?
Iâd just keep an eye on them and make sure you donât have aggression.
I have an aggressive one who spooked one of my favorite ones and it hit its head on the lid and died.
@@sneakypenguin8107 that sucks.. sorry to hear
Tnx it was very informative
I'm glad you found it worth while...thanks for watching.
My adult angelfish even made popping noises. As if someone was tapping against the glass. I noticed it only cause the filter inlet was under water. Otherwise I never would have noticed it.
Thank you for this informative video! It was very helpful as Iâm just setting up a 29 for my first angel! The breeder said I could go with three but I knew better. Hmm...one or two...? We shall see :)
Hope it goes well for you!
3 in the 29 would be ok for a lithe while I believe. If they are the only fish in it.
I have one of my angelfish has been harassing my two mollies. One of my mollies has horribly ripped fins and a loss in color while the other seems fast enough to get away (but is still getting chased and nipped at). Please give advice!!!
I'm doing a pair of angels and a betta with a suckerfish. So far so good. They chase and fight a little not a lot
Great info. I have angelfish with discus and temp is 84 degrees. I think the angelfish are in spawning condition and have separated the breeding pairs.
Why 84 degrees...for the Discus maybe...đ€. I have 4 large angels and they do really well at 77-78. Only have had trouble with the breeding pair attacking everything when spawning. Not too bad though. Maybe I got luckyđ€·đŸââïž.
Nice job!
Thanks, MJV. Glad you liked the vid.
I have a 36G tank with 5 tetra. Recently I added two angelfish and didn't realize that one is bigger than the other one. The bigger one seems very aggressive and chase all fishes in the tank. The smaller angelfish obviously became the target quickly and always hide at the top of the tank or under the wood with broken fin, and getting weaker and weaker everyday. Luckily she is still eating okay (not a lot, but at least still chasing foods) and so I decided to add a separator in the tank to isolate the bigger one. There are small spaces in the separator and so the tetra can still pass through it, but obviously the tetra mostly stay with the smaller angel. Now I hope I can buy some times for the smaller one to get stronger and hopefully I can remove the separator in one day. I'm not sure if it is a good approach or not. Any suggestions?
I have 10 angels in a 75 gallon, and when they spawn I can confirm they take half the tank LOL. I started with one from a. 29 gallon and added 9 larger ones from a local fish store. 10 I found is the sweet spot. They are all full grown mostly and itâs very peaceful, with a bit of bickering
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. 10...the magic number!
How would you catch an angelfish if you decided to move one . Would a net harm the fins
Trying to decide what to add to my tank with mollies and heard angels can live with them and I've always wanted to have an angelfish in a planted community tank. Is one fine on its own with the mollies? Or will there be issues I should be aware of?
I have 5 small angels in a 39 bow . I put them all in around the same time they're doing great and buzzing around the thank ,but there it's dominant behavior being disciplined don't know if I have all males or some females.
What is the appropriate food for angel fish? Just purchased 2 koi angel fish? Thank you. What is most available and appropriate.
I have added a plant to my angel fish tank and they have become aggressive could it be territorial thing?
Oh man. I just added 3 veilfin angels to my 325gal that has 30 angels in it and they're acting super weird. So that makes sense. Hopefully they figure it out... đ
Ahhhh!!!! I just had to take my 4th (juvenile) angelfish back to Petsmart cause it was sparring with the other angels. Now I feel horrible cause it was actually happy. đą
Ah, sorry to hear that!
How many angels would you recommend for a 75 gallon tank?
What are the corys? They are super cute. Thanks for the video, Iâve been put off Angels due to this very problem.
The corys are Corydoras arcuatus...or skunk corys. Yep, not everyone has the tank space to deal with separating an agro angel. I am lucky I do so I can keep them!
What about 1 angel with several glofish tetras and 2 Dalmatian mollies? Would that be safe in a 29 gallon tank. (3 snails)
I heard not to do 2 angels Incase they pair up⊠then everything dies in the tank
My two angelfish will lock lips all the time and have a stare down they never hurt each other though. I am adding 4 more large angelfish this weekend hopefully no fighting I don't have another tank or the room for another so I can't separate them. I'll just let them figure it out. I'd prefer to have all the same sex so there's no pairing up .
How many would you recommend in a standard 55 gallon to minimize aggression?
Thank you very much for your detailed suggestions. I live in southern China and the temperature in summer can be high. My fish tank is in my study where I donât normally stay very long. Do I need a separate air conditioner for the fish tank? Hahaha.
Tsao,
They can take it pretty warm, but it does amp up their spawning, and therefore aggression, urge.
Hi Dan! Will you take my 3 angelfish? I like the smaller schooling fish, they calm me.
Hey Dan. Hello from across the pond! I wonder if you could give me some advice regarding my present Angelfish aggression?
Sorry in advance it's a bit lengthy but I feel needs explaining.
So I have a confirmed pair of Koi Angels (approx 2yrs+). They're in a 110L tall tank, planted, bogwood etc, no other fish. They used to regularly spawn every 2 weeks, up to 4 months ago, then suddenly stopped.
Were never good parents, ate the eggs, or wigglers if they made it up to 4 days, no more.
I've tried all techniques, separating the eggs in a raising tank ( same tank water), gentle airstone on eggs .Methylene blue/Hydrogen Peroxide 10%, Aldercone brew, you name it, I've tried it and wigglers never made it past 3 days stage. Always perished.
Now since they stopped spawning, the male became a real bully. The female hid most of the time ( still had a voracious appetite snatching the conditioning food), but then hid. I separated them with a mesh for 2 weeks, then removed the male rearranged the tank then added him, but now the roles have reversed. She is now the bully, he hides most of the time (still eats at feeding times, but she nips him and chases him off).
Really don't know what's going on as I want to get them to spawn again, but with no success.
No changes in Parameters ever (80%RO/20%HMA filtered), temp always 24°C 0ppm Ammonia & Nitrites. 30-40ppm Nitrates (naturally occurs in water source).
I've even tried to stop a weekly 20% water change to avoid diluting any hormones, but still no joy. Female bulks up with food but that's it no breeding tube ever appears now, no cleaning of leaf surfaces or the slate anymore.
Can you suggest anything at all or is this likely the end of the pairing? I can't find any advice whatsoever and I'm desperately trying to fix the problem. Any advice would be massively appreciated. Shame we can't add pics/videos on CZcams comments to give you an idea of the set up.
Really enjoy watching your videos( I tried to follow your Angel breeding video, a while back, but it failed for me as described above). Sorry for the long comment but, here's hoping you can give me some advice. Thanks again!
Thank you
Thanks for stopping by, Koryboy!
Great informations Brother ! Recently I noticed that I have 2 males and 1 female. The males was fighting for dominance. I removed one of the pair. You have great Angelfish by the way !đđ
Thanks Protim! Good move removing the 3rd wheel angel.

I have 4 babies 2 grey ones and 2 black ones will they eventually get aggressive with each other? In a 20 gallon long but they where all born together but I will eventually upgrade to a 75 gallon tank or 120
Iâve got 3 and the small one always picks on the older female one. Not sure if itâs a male or not but the female wonât do anything back
Temperature tip was good. I keep it at 79/80, but I'm gonna try 78.
Can I keep two different types of angelfish in the same tank
can we put shrimps together with angel fish?
What happens when you have two angelfish and a 36 or 38 gallon aquarium, and I rescued one that was in the store for six months and he was separated away from the others because how he was picked on what behavior would look like
Lots of things could happen...every scenario is different. What did happen?
Awesome tips I have 5 koi Angel's in a 55, they're doing great but been eating neons and kill OJ ng off some rummy nose, I think I'll take your advice and just leave them 5 Angel's to themselves in that 55.đđ
Hope they do well for you.
I bought 2 juveniles who were in a 10 gallon tank together when I got them. They did well until recently. I put them in a 20 gallong long just to grow them out along with 3 black phantom tetras. Now one of them is terrorizing the other. I am going to move the evil one to my 55 gallon.
Perfect! Glad you have another tank you can put him into to give the little one some relief.
I have 2 angelfish in my 29 gal and the big one is being very aggressive
Great info Dan. Went through heatwave here and it triggered my guys to spawn ..
Congrats! Are you raising the babies or letting them go?
bad news ... i left the eggs and they ate them. Next spawn i will retrieve them and be ready with food etc
Sorry to hear the spawn was lost, but their ain't nothin' wrong with a little caviar for fish nutrition.
Dans Fish lol...so do I tune the heater to trigger them again?
I've found that a temp of 82 - 84 will trigger spawning. They will spawn at lower temps too, but not as frequently.
Love your Angels! Platinum is my favorite and I have two with a black lace, a gold pearl, and a marble. Have them about a year and they are outgrowing the 40 gallon but no indication of pairing. Do I dare try putting two into a 30 gallon? At this time I donât have room for a 55.
You could totally put a couple of them in a 30 gallon, however, it might be hard to add them back with the others if they don't pair off. If it has been a year, temps are 80-ish, and water conditions/food are good, and you have not seeing any pairing behavior, you may be in the edge of the statistical bell-curve and actually have 4 of the same sex. Hard to know for sure, but, usually I would expect so see some pairing action from a group by now if it contains mixed sexes. Please let us know what ends up happening!
Dans Fish , thankyou for your suggestions. So love the platinums that Iâm trying to figure out how to add a 55 gallon. Lol
I hear ya! Too many fish, never enough tanks :)
I have 10 angels 5â with tons of fishes. My angels were aggressive when they were young. A year later they donât fight at all.
Ah, good to know! Age mellows, I suppose.
great video - question for you - we have 4 in a 55G tank and one of them (koi angel) is being picked on by a bully angel fish - it has stopped eating too (probably stressed). what do you recommend we do - we have no other tanks?
donate or divider, already became the dominant fish canât change that
I have a question. Awhile back I bought 1 blk. marble angelfish, a month later I got a platinum one & they have always stayed side by side. Now they are quite big & still tog , no breeding tubes, I often see them cleaning each other, no aggression or anything. Wondering if they would be 2 of the smae sex or a pair. There is just the 2 of them & a few platys which were in the tank first, sometimes they do chase the platys . Wondering what you think. Very informative video. Thnks
Howdy Cheryl,
Thanks for the query. It is hard to tell for sure as the sex on angelfish is never quite certain until they produce a fertile spawn. There could be 2 of the same sex or they could be a male and female and just haven't spawned yet. If you have had them a long time, they are full grown, and conditions/temps are optimal for spawning, then I would be quite surprised if they are indeed male and female, but you never know for sure until they spawn.
Best,
Dan
Wauw im surprices you dont have more likes. Nice video!
I was wondering when they do spawn and get agressive because of that. How long would that take? Weeks, months?
It depends on how the tank is set up. They can spawn pretty much anytime if they are mature adults. If you keep the temps in the mid 70's, they will spawn less frequently. Once they have selected a spawning site, they will immediately defend it against all comers.
I bought two angelfish a week ago and now one of them is attacking his partner so much that the other one hiding amd running away from him. I think both of them are males buts it's actually hard to the tell the difference bcos their still quite young. Can somebody tell me what should i do?i just jailed the attacker in my net for now :P
I have 3 Angel fishes in my 30 gallon tank one is small and the other are medium sized Blackangel and Koiangel my problem is that the blackangel always chase koiangel and tries to nip her fins. I dont have any other tank to keep them separate.
I wish I had a magic solution for you, but 3 angels in that size tank can be tough. Perhaps finding another home for the one getting picked on is a good idea, especially if the other 2 have formed a pair.
can someone please help, my angelfish(2 gold, 2 zebra's,1 smokey,2 koi, 1 leapord) are sick, i think, there gills are sticking on there body all hiding (in a group) and they used to be friendly and come up to my hands and eat there food from me, now there getting spooked when im near and they rarely eat, please help i dont know what is wrong , if something is wrong , thanks
I have a 65 gallon community tank that had two angelfish. I added two more angels not knowing there would be an aggression issue. I am not opposed to adding 4 more angelfish but i need to know how much space is required for the community.
I'd suggest 8-12 for a 65 gallon to help lesson aggression.
I bought a angel that is slightly bigger than the other 3, and when feeding time comes, he bullies everyone now. Made a mistake and got one bigger than a quarter, thinking about removing them but all I have is a 10 gallon to put em in, was no aggression before they came and now feel dumb for buying a fish that size. He's kind of a jerk now, not gonna lie. But, you have similar mismatched size fish in your tank. Hoping they can all coexist long term, maybe the smaller ones will catch up to the medium one in size.
Your angels are constantly agressive there i have angels and they have changed looks of my tank totaly beautiful yet theyr little agrresive
My angels are attacking my koi fish what should i do?
Ok so I have 2 angels in my 378lt, acclimated him now. My black bigger angel was constantly chasing and "pecking the white platinum but no damage. But anyway I think my tank is spacious enough. By the way the platinum is smaller but will keep a close eye. I have a 60lt community, if things get rough. Will seperate
Sounds good. With angelfish, having a "plan B" tank is always a good idea.
Thank you for your video this was very informative. I have 4 Angel fish in a 29 or 30 gallon they are huge now.
They were medium size when when l bought them. Right now my fish are poking each other and then
3 of them are poking at one particular Angel fish. I donât understand it so l bought a 55 gallon tank
I hope this will help. I donât have a heater which l will purchase and l will keep track of the temperature.
If this does not work l will separate the fish that is being poked at into another tank.
Did everything work out? I hope the "poked on" fish is doing okay.
Dans Fish Well unfortunately l have bad news! While l was preparing to change tanks all 4 of my Angel fish died.
What happened was l took my fish out of my old tank, and separated them into 2 smaller tanks while l was
Adding water and plants to the new tank. They were breathing heavy and swimming rapid. I did not understand what happened.
I got help on CZcams on how to transport fish. I discovered that l should of added some of the old water to the
2 temporally tanks that l had them in and also test the water and temperature. Anyway l got the bigger tank running
and l bought more Angel fish. I have learned now what l must do to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Thank you for replying. đ„°
Use seachem prime water conditioner .
I have 2 in a community tank-true the bigger one is more aggressive-they have a love/hate...sometimes they get along, sometimes they don't. I don't think the smaller one is too stressed out by it all. At least I hope not.
Sounds like they are probably married...
Goldie could be in trouble based on this 'tape.' She's a different color and slightly smaller. I wonder if those factors are recognized by the rest of the group?
----------
Your "line of sight" observation is true and can work. Large rocks and plants that define open spaces will create territories that can be retreated to and defended.
Pal Joey!!!
Great to hear from you.
I'm keeping a close eye on Goldie. She's also sprouting longer fins (veiltail-ish), which makes her a bit more delicate than the others. So far, so good. She's actually put on a lot of size since being moved into this tank. I've got a few options waiting in case she turns into a target. I think, however, that with this large group, she will probably be fine long term. Time will tell.
Best,
Dan
I have a gallon or half-gallon tank 2 angels, 4 glofish. But my angelfish (male) made one of the glotetras half blind and have bladder issues. It kept on chasing all the other fishes and nick their tail/fins. I had to seperate the other glotetra. maybe I should change the tank?
Sorry to hear your angelfish is giving you trouble. If he doesn't stop, yes, it might be time to separate him or get a much larger tank so everyone has enough space for their territories.
Thanks for this video. I really want a platinum angelfish tank, but the biggest tank I can have is a 55g. How many would you say I could safely have with just cories on the bottom of the tank, no other fish?
Hello Tor,
A 55 is usually enough for a group of angels unless you get a particularly ornery one. The larger the group, the better they will do as the aggression will be spread out between several fish. Ideally, I'd do 8-10 in that size tank with corys...but that is me. It all depends on your set up, your experience, and how much maintenance you want to do.
@@DansFish thank you for responding. I wish I could have a 125g lol. I'll try a group and thin the herd by removing any overly aggressive ones. Aloha
:)
Hi, thank you for the information, I need your advice plz. I have 4 angelfish around 3-4 months old, after two weeks one of them stopped eating for several days now and the others are eating normally, he still looks in good health and fighting, swimming normally. What could be the reason and How to make him eat normally again? @DansFish
I wish I could give you a solution, but there is no easy answer. There are as many reasons a fish would stop eating as there are a human would stop eating.
Hi Dan great informative video. I was wanting to add a single angelfish to my 55 gallon community tank. I currently have a male betta, bolivian rams, honey gourami's, 2 schools of tetra (neon and rummy nose) harlequin rasbora, corys and otos. Do you think adding a young angelfish into the community tank be ok? Thanks
I think angelfish will grow big enough to eat some of your smaller fish. It could be a big problem if your otos get stuck in your angelfish's mouth/throat.
@@DansFish thanks for your quick response its very much appreciate. Killifish maybe a better option.
Yes. I think killifish would do well in that setup especially if it has a tight lid so they can't jump out. Here are some killies if you want to take a look: getgills.com/catalog.dive/19
@@DansFish thats great thanks. I understand that killifish dont live that long, maybe a year. Im looking for a longer lived variety, any suggestions? Also are they aggressive and nip fins? Ive read mixed/contradicting reviews about them...so still in two minds.
Nayan, There are many hundreds of species of killifish scattered all over the world, so it is hard to make generalizations about them. IME, non-annual and simi-annual species are just as long lived as similarly sized livebearers and other common aquarium fish. It is pretty much just the annual species that are not as long lived...and many of those can live over a year and a half or more. All the species I carry are hardy, long lived, and are not aggressive. Here's a link if you would like to take a look: getgills.com/catalog.dive/19
If I keep 6-8 just female angels.... Am I supposed to face aggression ?
I hate when my 2 fight! I put my finger in and tell for stop! Usually, they stop right away
Wow! That's amazing...
I just baught neon tetras today and my angelfish have been attacking them a lot should I just move my angel fish to a different tank
IME, Angelfish will eat neon tetras.
Tip,feeding them a little more can help out
Interesting... I've never had more than 3 angels at a time and I've never had angels be so aggressive that they kill other angels. I've had angels murder and eat other smaller species and shrimp and snails. But never each other. I'm guessing part of it is I typically try keep my angels with other angels of a similar size and energy level. I generally also keep my angels with schooling tank mates, including neon tetra. Which probably makes it harder to single out one individual. I also select tank mates based on my angels' temperament. If I have more docile angels, I'll stick neons in there. If more aggressive, then I'm sticking with mollies and platties, green tiger barbs (in my experience way less nippy than regular tigers) and fish around that size.
Mike, thanks for sharing your ways!
I just bought 2 angelfish from ebay from 2 different sellers and there selling there adult angelfish for super cheap like $5 ?becouse there mean I bought then they haven't came in yet should I be worried
Did you buy it? I mean they can be aggressive
I have two angelfish one white, slightly bigger than my other marbel fish. White angel keep picking up on the marble. Her upper fin is half nipped and one lower tentacle. Cannot refuce temperature neither I can sperate them. I have 20 gal community tank with 4 guppies and 2 gold fish. Please help!!!!!. I do have a 4 gal tank as well with 5 tetras. Both the tanks cycled. Pleasr help in saving my fish.
If you can't lower temps and cannot separate them, it might be best to re-home one of them.
I have a beautiful adult female angelfish that I've raised from quarter size. She's laying eggs on a leaf in our heavily planted 29 gal. community tank as I type this comment. She's been laying eggs about every six weeks for several months and she is quite healthy with beautiful color. This is my first experience with an angelfish and I love her.
Now, to my question...
I'm not particularly interested in a breeding her, but I would like to add another angelfish to the tank. Is it possible to do that without aggression issues and if so, should I add a juvenile or a mature adult?
Hello Hornet1,
Thanks for telling me about your fish. She sounds great. IME, adding a new angelfish to a small tank with a firmly established angelfish in it can lead to problmes. If you really want to do it, you could add another adult and see how it goes. However, please have a soliid Plan B in place before hand in case it does not work out.
Also, from your profile pic, I'm guessing you are into bettas? If so, what kinds are you working with?
@@DansFish
After considering all the possible drawbacks, I've decided not to take a chance on adding another angel to my tank. The tank is so peaceful and healthy that I think it would be unwise to take the chance.
I breed dumbo halfmoon bettas (emphasis on whites and platinums).
@Dans Fish
I was interrupted before I thanked you for your excellent advice.
THANK YOU đ
Dan I have a question pls Dan respond to this!!!
My angels are constantly having babies non stop and they have been so agresive I have an angel with a small chunk bitten out of its side and the pair have gone to the lengths of killing my favourite balloon mollies :( đ„ș please get back to me as soon as you can bc I need it urgently u might not even see this but if you do I beg you I NEED YOU!
I know this is a late answer but I was having issues with a pair that formed and were spawning what I did was to lower the temperature so it wouldn't encourage breeding
I have 7 angels and most have paired up they all lay so I've had to separate the 3 pairs in 3 different tanks as they all fight so much! What if I separate males from females would that fix the aggression ? And have one male tank and one female tank?
This is an important question?!
I have 2 angelfish they are never aggressive to eachother and they have made eggs before but they only attack other fish for no reason should I move them both in one tank
Sure. If the other fish are getting beat up, moving the angels seems like the right thing to do to me.
I had 2males and 1 female. the 1 male attacked the other one often. he died very early. now I have a couple in harmony. the female lay eggs. đ
My four Angel fish kill anything I put in my tank, I had a bunch of fish and the only thing left is the 4 Angel fish and one huge gold fish. that somehow survived (I have a 50 gal tank)
Yep. That's why I made this video. Shops tend to sell angelfish as peaceful community fish, but some of them have a dark side.
@@DansFish Yea they shouldn't be called Angel, they should be called Assassins! LOL
How many angelfish can you have in a 29 gallon fish tank? I have one established angelfish in there I also have three Candy cane tetras, two silver tipped tetras, one Cherry barb, three Amano Shrimp, and one Bristlenose Pleco. I always had bad luck with bringing in other Angelfish in an already established tank. I have my aquarium temperature at 81 F any lower and the fish seem sluggish. Thank you.
Andrea, if you already have an established angel in the tank, it might not work to add more, especially if it is an adult male. 29 is not that big for a bunch of adult angels.
@@DansFish Thank you I plan to just add a couple more Candy cane tetras and two more silver tipped tetras and that's it. No more angelfish for me except the one I have.
I got two that killed my Betta I had forever. I wish I seen this video earlier :(
Sorry to hear about the lost betta.
I just got bigger tank put them in their so thatâs what they must be doing that for territory purposes thx
Is 4 angle in 40 gallon okay ?
Probably, until they pair off and want to spawn. Each situation is a bit different, but I would have a plan B ready just in case.
i find that if u change your tank around thay will all find a new spot and quit picking for a wile
Yep, that's an oldie but goodie. Thanks for sharing.
I tried removing the (Boss) from the tank
Mine can't get their shit together :( I have 2 and they both swim freely and seem to get along fine but I'm noticing more and more of their fins getting shorter. :/ how do I make them knock it the hell off? They both seem to eat fine together and hang out fine. Will they eventually figure it out and cut it the fuck out??
I guess I won't be putting angel fish in my 30gallon tank when I set my tank back up. đ€
J D, You can have angels in that size of tank. It is just a bit more difficult and it would be good to have a plan B tank you can move some into if aggression becomes an issue in the 30 gallon. If you only have a 30 gallon a single angel would be just fine.
I bought 3 angels who all grew up healthy and now about 6â top to bottom fins. Two paired up and I had to remove the left out fish. He was really sad! The pair has had several eggs but none hatched so far.
The single angel went into a 30 gallon.
I bought him a buddy. After quarantine the new angel he/she joined my single angel. They get along. 3 days after meeting I get eggs. I was shocked at how fast they â fell in loveâ!
Iâm concerned the 30 gallon is too small but I already have 6 tanks...5 more than I wanted.
Back to the original pair in the 55 gallon...they are the problem now. They spawned again and now the male Iâm guessing is after the female like to kill it. Itâs hiding and got a nip in itâs side.what happened to the duo? What do I do now?
Howdy Karen,
Thanks for sharing your experience with the angels. Sounds like quite the soap opera in those tanks!
I'm not sure why the male turned on the female. It might help to move him out and let her recover. It also helps if there are lots of plants or other things in the aquarium to break up their line of sight so she can retreat from the male if she needs to. Lowering the temperature to the mid-70s helps me calm them down when they get aggressive. Dither fish may also help. Fingers crossed for you!!!
@ any questions on an angelfish that's pooping out white stringy feces and won't eat observing that she opens her mouth and closes see the food makes an attempt but fails is there any strong medicine out there #help
I have three that are having symptoms
Lost, I'm so sorry I missed this comment 3 months ago when you left it. It is probably too late to help now, but what you are observing is a fish's version of diarrhea. It could be caused by stress, parasites, bacterial infections, or a virus...hard to tell. A good first defense is some anti-parasite meds such as general cure. If that fails, antibiotics may be in order. If it is a virus, your best bet it to separate the fish and keep it warm and stress free. I'm no Dr., but that's my 2 cents for what it is worth.
Hi Dan,I'm having 4 angel fish ,2 silver and 2 black color....1 black color one is very much aggressive,so I have separated them because it is harming other 2 silver one ...please help what to do I'm having 200 liter tank
Howdy Harsh,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your angels. The thing about angelfish is that, once they want to spawn, they select a territory and defend it. If you have lots of angelfish in an aquarium, that can help spread the aggression around so no one gets overtly targeted. With only 4, the targeting can be harsh. I would suggest keeping only 1 (preferably female, but male can work too), keeping a pair, or keeping lots in your aquarium. If you keep one, it won't have other angels to beat up on. If you keep a pair, they will (hopefully) be good lovers and spawn regularly, if you keep several, it becomes difficult for any one fish to get too dominant...it can happen, but is less likely...as the aggression is spread between so many fish. You can also rearrange the decorations in the aquarium, provide lots of line-of-site breaks, and lower the temps to the mid-70's F. That being said, if a pair forms and decides to defend a spawning territory, there is little you can do besides remove the other fish or remove the pair. They are pretty peaceful for cichlids, but they are still cichlids.
@@DansFish Hi Dan,At first Thank you for your quick response for my problem.I have removed 2 black ones and thought of returning it to nearest aquarium shop.Keeping the other two silver angels. This may solve the problem I hope so :)
My fingers are crossed for you.
I have 2 angel fish in a medium size aquarium..I see that they fight often locked on each others mouth or nib each other.. I can't add more fish because of the size of the aquarium. I don't know if I have 1 male and 1 female coz I can't tell the difference, or I'm not sure if I have both female or both male..really can't tell. I'm just worried that they keep fighting even of I give them food they would just ignore the food and continue fighting..
Haven,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having aggression issues with your angels. They are beautiful fish but they have their issues. I hope they calm down for you. If not, it is a great excuse to purchase another tank so you can seperate them. More tanks = more fun in my experience :)
Hope they can wait for my next pay out coz I just started from work hehe
You might be able to make a cheep temporary divider from egg crate lighting diffusers from Home Depot or the like. Here's a link to what the stuff looks like: www.amazon.com/Ioffersuper-Divider-Louvre-Aquarium-Isolation/dp/B078Q4LSV6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548975047&sr=8-1&keywords=egg+crate+lighting+panel
Excellent info. Angels are my fav, I used to breed them. Marbles were my thing. Nothing more fun then a big group of thumbnail sized babies. Mine used to spar like this just before they paired up. Do you plan to breed these?
Howdy MindyLou!
A batch of fry is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. I'm not trying to breed this group. In fact, I am keeping the temps down in the 70's specifically to prevent much breeding. That being said, they will still eventually breed at these temps. I'm not trying to do it, but I'm sure it will happen. I dunno if I'll remove a pair and go for it or not. Kind of depends on how much time and space I have when they happen to spawn.
Best,
Dan
There is much debate on whether to let parents raise their babies or remove the eggs and do it yourself. Seems I always had better stronger babies when I let the parents do their thing. Youâd be surprised at how little a tank they want when raising babies. Maybe itâs easier to keep track of them? Your in shape with the bare bottom tanks, my first attempts the babies all got stuck in the gravel when they were first learning to swim. These are all probably brother and sisters anyways good call not wanting to breed them.
I like leaving them with the parents too....the parental behavior is so fun to watch.
what are these small fishes on the bottom?
If you are talking about the catfish, those are Corydoras arcuatus...the skunk catfish.
My angel fish is bigger than all my others and he is being very mean and attacking my other ones any tips how to stop it?
Hello Kevin. I wish I had a magic bullet for you, but it is very common for a large fish to harass the smaller ones. If the tank is large enough, you could try adding more angels to spread the aggression, but separation is probably a more realistic option.
@@DansFish We have a 55 gallon tank and we have 4 other angels but they are littler. The mean one we got, we got with other one and weÂŽve had them for like 6 months but he goes after him CONSTANTLY and the littler ones he goes after him too.. The fish that the mean one came with, his fins are super frayed.. So we are thinking about getting a separater
