Don't forget our wonderful sponsor: cruiseline.com?
Hey Cruisers, we recently got the opportunity to check out the Norwegian Bliss studio cabins and studio lounge, and we thought we'd share our thoughts about this interesting cabin class. Of course, this includes a tour of a very cool NCL studio cabin and the surprisingly posh studio lounge. There are a few things to consider when determining if a studio cabin on a cruise ship is right for you. First will you be comfortable in a cruise ship cabin this small? Next what is the price difference for other cabins with the single supplement? Then you'll need to think about how much time you intend to spend in your cruise ship room. Are you the type of person than only sleeps and showers in you cruise ship stateroom? If so, then a studio cabin is a probably a great choice for you. I really liked the studio cabins on the Norwegian Bliss. They are small to be sure, but NCL has done a lot of little things to make the studio cabins feel comfortable. There are also a lot of nice little modern touches to these studio cabins like the virtual window, big flat screen TV, and USB ports. Another nice and unexpected feature of the Norwegian studio cabins is the studio lounge and concierge. I really think the collection of all these cool features will make the studio cabins a great choice for single cruisers.

On Norwegian, Solo Travelers rule... The Studios are a great idea and very successful. I've stayed in Studios on the Epic, Getaway and Escape. I'm getting ready to book the Bliss for Christmas. The cabins are nice, compact and everything one needs in a place to sleep, shower and get ready for your next activity. If you want to relax and loll around in a cabin, then book a balcony, but if you're a true solo traveler and want to experience the ship, the ports and even meet other like-minded cruisers, then a Studio is perfect. The Lounge is FABULOUS! Now there's the place to find your new friends who aren't attached to someone else. Solo travelers aren't necessarily singles, but the one thing we all have in common is we love to travel. The biggest + for me is the Concierge. She/he takes care of getting people together for activities, dinner, shows. LOVE NCL Studios and I can't wait to experience the Bliss this December!

Love the studio cabins on NCL. Had no problem spending 15 days in one on the Panama Canal cruise and have been in the studios on the Getaway 3 times. Lounge is a great place to hang out or even just run down for a snack and juice/water before bedtime. And the lounge has the best coffee maker on the whole ship!

Debster Lee since you recently were in the studio, did you feel the sway of the ship? Booked a studio on the Encore & will be on the 10th fl but wondered about the motion of the ship thanks Sylvia

I was on that cruise too and I really liked the lounge and really, really LUV'd our host Jose. I have not bee on The Getaway but have been in the Studio on The Breakaway, Escape and several times on my favorite ship The Epic. The only criticism I might have is that on The Bliss and Escape I missed having a bar and a bartender in the lounge.

Great video! Love the studio cabins on NCL! (Bliss is gorgeous!) My brother and I went on a cruise together a few years back and got adjoining studio cabins on the Breakaway .. it was awesome!! It was less expensive than sharing a cabin and we each got our own bathroom and private space.. we just shut the door between when we wanted privacy! Otherwise we kept it open and enjoyed each other's company! The lounge area is awesome and was never crowded. Bed was perfect size for 1 and very comfortable. We didn't take advantage of the singles coordinator or activities at all but was nice to have the option! Would def consider a solo cruise in a solo cabin/suite on NCL!

As an NCL fan I have to say Sheri, you were all over it on this video! I have, for fun priced solo cabins, and several times I have found virtually the same price for an inside with supplement. Of course if the opportunities for meeting people are a priority it is a great option. I usually put my blood donor card or something like that in the light slot just so I don't forget my key card in the room, great tip! I do try to remember to pull it out enough for the lights to go out.

Actually looks quite cozy for a solo cruiser. I wonder if anything less than 7 days, or Spring Break / Party Weekends, are a bad idea for these types of cabins, to avoid neighbors with ulterior motives. The opportunity for solo travelers, happy singles, and divorced/widowed is a fantastic addition to these ships.

I stayed in a studio cabin on Escape and found it perfect and a very good price. I am booked on the Bliss for a 12 day cruise but opted for a balcony due to the length of the cruise. Seven days or less is ideal for the studio cabin. Plenty of room, never felt cramped. I would absolutely book another studio cabin.

This is awesome! I'm 63 and been single since dirt was still a rock! I was talking about going on a cruise alone and I know I would love it but the one thing that stops me is that I would have to pay the same as a couple. I haven"t taken my first cruise yet and now I may have a chance to afford it! I haven't taken very good care of myself since I've lost 2 adult sons. Before you know it....10 yrs have passed and I'm still sitting in the same recliner! I'm ready to take back my life!!! Seriously....I"m a 3 yr old right now!! Thank you so much for your hard work!!

Hi Emma, actually stayed in a solo balcony on Britannia in July 2015 when she was still new. They didn't have a specific lounge but they were on the pool deck so the buffet, pizza and burger stations & pool bars were very close. Another bonus was they were also a stagger away from the crows nest which i think is Britannia's best bar! I have just booked a post Covid-19 on the Getaway in a Studio Cabin for October 2022 (yikes 870 days to go) but already getting very excited. Stay safe x

I traveled with my sister and niece who had balcony cabins on both ships, so I was able to enjoy their balcony! This ship is very different in the color scheme. I loved the studio cabins on the other ships because they were bright and cheery! These are very muted I think. Still beautiful though! 👍😁

Stayed in a solo cabin on the Escape and really enjoyed it. This cabin on the Bliss looks a little smaller to me, at least the bed looks like a twin where on the Escape it was a full. Also you are correct about pricing. I was pricing a 10 day Western Caribbean out of New Orleans and noticed the price for the solo cabin was the same as a regular interior cabin. Really didn't expect that but maybe the higher price is because the Bliss is a new ship. Never spent much time in the lounge because I met some people the during the sail away party and hung out with them the whole time.

Now I was thinking for you that it would be cool to do a comparison Studio sometime on the different ships as they all have some interesting difference like the Epic and Breakaway have a FULL BAR in the Studio Lounge with a dedicated bartender which is really cool. I don't know why they didn't continue that concept with the Breakaway Plus ships......Having said that, all the Studio Lounges I've been in have been nice!

I was on a Bahamas cruise in March of last year on the Norwegian Epic in a Studio cabin and I loved it. The big difference between the Epic Studio cabins and what you've shown for the Bliss Studio cabin is the size of the bed. On the Epic the bed too up most of the floor space for the cabin and left only a small area near the sink clear to access the stool and small desk. The layout of the Bliss Studio cabin looks better thought out and the Studio Lounge larger. I found that the Studio Lounge is a great place to get away for some peace and quiet if the Pool Deck is crowded.

    • @elizabethhouse2910

I travel by myself and have never taken a cruise because it always seemed geared to couples and way too expensive. It's good know that the cruise industry is waking up to the idea that more and more travellers are solo. I'd like to try this. Especially if the port excursions are done as a group. I wouldn't want to be by myself walking around a Caribbean island, I'd want to be with other people from my cruise.

I've noticed in many of these cabin tour videos, that there is NO electrical outlet near the bed. As I must sleep with a CPAP machine, I get the feeling that I cannot take a cruise because I would have to run the electrical cord across the cabin to the plug on the desk area and that would be a safety issue (waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom). Did I miss something? My partner is not a fan of cruising and I would like to try a cruise again so a Solo cabin may be an idea, but no outlets bedside would be a deal breaker!

If the shower is in the room what keeps the steam from dampening the bed or your clothes? How do you not dampen the floor or bed with water on your body? I'm sure that shower isn't big enough to do a total body dry job before exiting.

      @sallyshort7255 Před 6 lety +7

Miranda Brooks It’s not big enough to dry in before getting out. In fact, it’s barely big enough to shower. You will bump into the walls constantly, but at least it’s not a clingy curtain. That was my experience. I’m a plus size girl, so that was part of problem. However, can you still feel clean and refreshed when done? Yes, as long as you can get used to bumping the walls. I don’t recall my room getting steamy on the Epic. The shower is opposite corner of the bed. While there is carpet under the bed end, it’s like linoleum on the shower side which is okay to get wet. You won’t get the bed wet if you stay on the shower end while drying off. I didn’t care much for the shower, but it does its job and my desire for a transatlantic cruise outweighs my dislike. I decided it’s just part of ship life.

There is a vent just above the shower. It does a great job on keeping the cabin from steaming up! That in addition to the AC. 👍

  • @heatheranneultimatetravela2264

I recently disembarked from Norwegian Breakaway, where I booked a studio cabin after the recent passing of my husband. The Breakaway studio cabins look almost identical to your tour of a studio on the Bliss. The studios are very trendy, and I loved the free specialty coffee in the studio lounge (instead of paying in the cafe - even with ultimate beverage package!) I didn't have time for any of the solo traveler activities or solo traveler concierge and felt that feature was overrated. I showed for the initial meeting and not many others showed up. I really missed the ocean access of a balcony. I ended up booking a balcony, traveling solo, for my Bliss cruise in August.

and you have a dedicated cruise staff host and in addition to the coffee; snacks and pastries and cookies and such. Orange Juice, water...….it's great and feels very exclusive....well it is because only studio guests can enter the studio complex.

I think if this makes traveling more available for the solo cruiser with a price they can now afford, it is a great idea. The more options the better...the water closet is an interesting idea but I’m not sure how I would feel in the “ singles lounge”. I think they did a great job for this sector of cruising!

I have travelled on the Escape in the Solo cabins. I thought it was a great experience and was looking forward to my trip on the Bliss in a solo cabin (but had to cancel my trip). One thing I noticed by your room tour: It looks like the bed in the Bliss solo cabins is smaller than the Escape beds. Narrower by about 4 inches or so.

Be prepared ,, it’s a challenge ,,Solo cabins are very small. Actually, it’s impossible to walk in these cabins. There’s very limited storage space and limited countertops, there’s no drawers for clothing. I suggest to bring 5 of the 10 inch or 11 inch folding boxes from Target ( these are stackable for the closet )and smaller folding boxes for countertop space . And the over the door zippered compartment bag from The Container Store. These items take up valuable luggage space, so I actually carry them in a bag when boarding the ship .

I personally if I’m gonna pay the same price for an inside cabin if if it’s pretty much the same price like $100 difference maybe I would have the bigger inside cabin than the studio cabin. I mean you don’t even have a chair that if you just wanted to hang out in your room, I would I’m finding out now that I booked a balcony studio cabin and now I’m finding out that I’m not paying any less then another cabin like the family cabin balcony cabin same price $150 difference so I feel like Norwegion and I love Norwegion, but they are screwing over the solo cabin the solo cruiser. They’re not doing anything special, make the if you’re gonna charge the same amount as you would for family of four if you were going to charge the same amount for solo cruiser for the balcony cabin, as you would, for a family of four, then make the balcony cabins Haven put the espresso machine and give us access to the Haven and make those Haven cabins and give us the upgraded mattresses and bedding if that’s what you’re gonna do if we’re gonna have to pay the same amount that the family afford going to pay per cabin, then make those Haven balcony cabins, there’s a lot of people out there that are solo travelers

Norwegion is ripping the solo cabin cruiser off because they are charging the solo cruiser the same price for that teeny tiny cabin that they’re charging for now that they’re doing the balcony cabins you can get a family one I mean that cabin is so tiny and so what you have a little teeny tiny lounge That I’ve heard not a travel agent not someone is getting paid by Norwegian. Nobody’s ever in that lounge area ever they go in they get a snack they get, but who wants to sit inside of a room with no windows I mean seriously now if Norwegian had given the solo people a little area like up on the deck but if you’re gonna charge the same price For a inside cabin that you’re gonna pay for solo and you have a bigger cabin why wouldn’t you get the bigger inside cabin just because you have your own I just think with the prices Norwegian is screwing people over and now they have the balcony cabins and if they’re going to charge that amount of money that they would charge a family per cabin and not talking about the taxes and all that I’m talking about per cabin then it should be half the price That was the whole point but Norwegion is not doing that they’re charging the single person. The same price is for the cabin that they would for family of four I’ve done a lot of I’m into detail and I’ve done a lot of research and they’re not given the solo person a break, not when, they’re having they start out and she telling you how much it is per person but then as you get into planning your cruise that goes to per state that’s where people just do research but Norwegion is not giving

Not as bad as it seems for shorter itineraries. I booked the 16 nighter in the studio and then switched to a forward OA. It honestly doesn't appear to be too much larger; but with 8 sea days, the view of the ocean may help keep me from going stir crazy when I'm in the cabin. The virtual view on Bliss which is new may have helped. The Breakaway studio didn't have the virtual view. For a week long cruise, it was perfect. I will miss not having access to the studio lounge. That coffee machine in the lounge was the best.
