  • Straight after off-season I jumped in the lab myself to test a genuine baseline ( a pretty low one at that). Since then I got a really solid 8 weeks of training and got back in the lab to put all that work to the test. Did it change anything? Why did or didn’t some metrics improve? Dive right into this data comparison exactly as I do for the athletes I work with.

Great vid, drilling down to some of those secondary measures and the variety of adaptations that occur is pretty fascinating.

Great to see Nick. How many hrs would you have Accumulated of Running & Cycling in the 8wks to see this improvements :) ? Cheers

Hey Nick, thanks a lot for all your videos. I recall watching a video you've made about garmin VO2max estimate. I'm wondering if your own garmin value increased accordingly to what you've tested in the lab. In other words : did garmin's algorithm picked up your progression ?
Besides, I would be very interested in hearing what you have to say about garmin's lactacte threshold estimation.
    Thanks !!

I’m working on a video as we speak about exactly that. Going to compare the Garmin change to the actual lab data change.
Will keep the threshold idea in mind, I kind of ignore it to be honest haha but will play around with it a bit more to give a better opinion.

Interesting video. The running economy and HR have improved, but the VO2 has increased. Wouldn't VO2 be expected to drop inline with HR or power, and it seems to be an anomaly in this case.

Double edged sword. Improved economy is likely given some of the data, however also enhanced oxygen delivery and utilization (keep in mind I started from a very low base compared to now) picks the VO2 up. Ventilation increased so you can’t underestimate the impact of a greater air intake opening up VO2 that should have been there last time, the increased efficiency in breathing unlocking that capability possibly as well.
