My favourite Spock quip: MCCOY: "It's a song, you green-blooded Vulcan. You sing it. The words aren't important. What's important is that you have a good time singing it." SPOCK: "Oh, I am sorry, Doctor. (pause) Were we having a good time?"
@@ethanshepherd4963 In the context of the characters, they both take shots at each other. For example, in the episode I, Mudd, when McCoy tells Spock the new crewman has avoided all his appointments for a checkup, Spock tells McCoy "That's not at all surprising, Doctor. He's probably terrified of your beads and rattles." In terms of screenwriting, without conflict you can't have drama or comedy.
"Spock, you're alive?" "An illogical question, doctor, since obviously you are hearing my voice." "Well, I don't know why I was worried. You can't kill a computer." I love Scotty's facial expressions during that scene :D he was just like "Ooh burn!"
At 02:02, Amanda glances sidewise at Spock and he inclines his head very slightly, giving her rather grudging permission to say whatever she has in mind. It's like he surmises what that will be because she's done this before. I always love that little moment.
I absolutely love how Spock kind of gives his mother permission to humor Bones, and then somehow manages to retain all his dignity, teddy bear aside. Go Spock!
Little known fact: DeForrest Kelly who played Bones once that his role in Star Trek was originally supposed to be very minor but when the producers saw the fans reaction to the McCoy/Spock interplay they expanded McCoy's role. I can't imagine ST without that interaction.
hanoc101 And you will note that Deforest Kelley was originally intended to be Mr. Spock, however, when Gene Roddenberry watched it, he said the role just simply didn't fit him, so therefore, the role, as you can see, went to Leonard Nimoy. A very good move, as Gene decided to make DeForest Kelley the ship's chief surgeon.
Fact is I was born in the 90's and this is still the best Star Trek, the writing, acting and chemistry between the cast hold nothing on the other series.
The man speaking on the radio in the very first clip is none other than James Doohan (Scotty). When he says, "the greatest little automatic in the...." you can tell that it's him.
Christopher Thorkon Yes, precisely. Jimmy Doohan did a vast viraty of voice overs for the Original Star Trek series. He was quite a skilled craftsman in many areas.
seriously how did McCoy think Spock wouldn't hear him talking to Jim? Anyone with ears like that could hear a pin drop at fifty paces. And I want a sehlat six inch fangs and all.
These two. My most favorite characters on this show. Their awesomeness is magnifed when they are around each other. :D Spock-McCoy moments Are the best.
Natalia .Hanson In the third season episode, For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky, the good Doctor did have a love interest. In the first season, Shore Leave when he was escorting Yeomsn Barrows.

I appreciate your beauty Dr. McCoy, I appreciate your beauty!!!!!!!! (Frickin' LOVE him - that smile at 'teddy bear' = OMG!) Thanks for such a wonderful vid - great classic McC/Spock moments, I LOLd at them all!! A perfect example of perfect casting!!
You can actually see it on Star Trek the Animated Series episode called "Yesteryear" where time is disrupted and Spock has to go back in time on Vulcan to fix the problem and sees himself and his pet "teddy bear". Unfortunately it's no longer on CZcams except for a preview trailer.
"Spock, you're alive?!" "An illogical question, doctor, since obviously you ARE hearing my voice." They are all hilarious, but I don't know why this one really gets meXD
I'll tell ya, The Original Star Trek Series is the BEST STAR TREK OUT THERE! Better than anything else that followed it. Can't beat the Original Star Trek Series.
McCoy: Shouldn't you be working on your time warp calculations? Spock: I am. LOL I love it. Ya just gotta love the Spock and McCoy banter. How about the one in the Immunity Symdrome: McCoy: Shut up, Spock! We're trying to save you!! Spock: Why thank you,.....Captain McCoy. Best one ever.
I love Nimoy and Kelly's chemistry! The Spock and McCoy arguments...er... interactions were my favorite parts of TOS (well... apart Spock love stories ^_^)
taiyo888 Very true statement as Dr. McCoy has always and will always worry about Mr.Spock if in fact the Vulcan should ever get sick and know how to treat him. He studied the internal Vulcan parts, however that's a different story if acual surgery should become an issue. Even though the both argue and go at it with each other, they both have a deep respect for each other's scientific research and knowledge on various subjects, and would offer each other's life for the other because of the deep respect they have for each other.
0:28 "That was the Jailbreakers with their latest recording on Request Time, brought to you by Bang-Bang, the makers of the sweetest little automatic in the wor..."

I loved the video, but I wish you would have continued the part where Spock points out the computer must be faulty because his games should end in draws, not wins. Great video, that was just one of my favorite scenes. :D
And that alerted everyone to the possibility that the computer had been tampered with...with led to the conclusion that Ben Finney was alive and hiding.
LOL, the fact that Spock and McCoy seemed to bicker all the time, appears to have been almost a running joke for the writers. Like a lot of people Spock was my favorite character from the beginning...thanks for sharing.
IMO Spock and Dr. McCoy were the best characters when they were both on screen. They played so well off of each other. You almost couldn't have one without the other
I can't believe you don't have the other great scene from 'The Immunity Syndrome' when Bones tells Spock to shut up because they are rescuing him, and Spock responds with "Why, thank you, Captain McCoy." I'm also surprised you didn't include the dialogue at the begining of "I, Mudd". That was possibly the BEST Spock McCoy banter EVER!!! Still, this was hilarious. It captured some of the best moments.

I love how there's actually this air of 'cool' on this show none of the other Star Trek's ever had. For a show people think was made for nerds, it just radiates a kind of charisma and wit you didn't see on TNG or VOY at all. Maybe a bit on DS9 but not quite like this. The fruitful antagonism between passion and logic played out by McCoy and Spock, two men of science, and mediated by leadership in the role of Kirk, introduced me, as a child, to philosophical notions I read about in great texts later. Thanks, Star Trek!
interesting that they talk about killing spock.. and McCoy calls him a computer at least 10 times in TOS... and he relives in the movies after dying. Fascinating.
At least Spock has some qualms for women. When he pinches a male, the male just falls to the ground. Spock doesn't ease them down like he did for the woman. Still, these two rock! I love these guys! :D
Estokur Same here. Reasons being is that the writers wrote some very interesting episodes full of drama mostly surrounding the Captain of the Starship who always put his ship first and foremost along with his crew, then his career which ment more to him than anything else out there. Love interests were written into episodes, however again the Captain always choose his ship and his crew before anything else out there. The first officer, a serene, quite logical as well as scientific driven officer who gave his young Captain sound advise as well as kept the Captain from stepping to much on and over boundaries concerning the prime directive. The Chief Medical Doctor, Dr. McCoy who had a more human way of advising this young Captain to remember to keep his feet glued to the ground and keep his head on straight. The Captain and the good Doctor had a different, yet special friendship like no other as the Captain can discuss things with the good Doctor who has feelings he can relate to, that he can't discuss with Mr.Spock as Spock, being a Vulcan, may not relate to the Captains emotions. The good Doctor can and always will be a confident the Captain can go to for sound advise and deep understanding.
