      @@GardeningWithHeidi yep the vowels are pronounced in a nearly universal (but not English!) way.
      Super simple: a e i o u are pronounced, respectively ah, eh, ee, oh, oo.
      Other vowel sounds are made by “pronouncing quickly” two adjacent vowels more like one sound, or when grouped as doubles, that’s a clue that in Hawaiian, there’s a pause, or glottal stop, between them, usual indicated as a single opening quote mark. Even Hawaii, which is commonly pronounced Huh-wEYE-ee, gets its “eye” sound from the “ai” together, followed by the “ee” sound, but with a short stop in between. Add to that the “w” which is actually a double “v” and you pronounce it properly: Hah-vEYE-ee, which differs from one of the State’s islands Kaua’i, pronounced, “Kow-AH-ee. it’s kinda fun.
      Btw, my gardener taught me to stick Ti stalks in water for one week and I’ll see white root nubs, then just plant them in the soil… super fast. New ones grow from or nearby the cut of the older plant, and from the one you plant a week later.

      Hey...mine had absolutely zero pink on them afterwards...I took off all the dead brown and left about 3 of the top three on, they should start to come back. The roots should still be alive so if you trim half of them down, knee height you can get some new growth and then see how the tall ones go, if they are too lacking then cut them once there is some new growth on the bottom knee height ones...mine already have one new leaf growth on the ones I didn't cut...hope this helps!

    Aloha I appreciate your video I live in SWFL and while I'm a transplant from HI I am just now taking a liking to growing cultivating and loving plants on my own. The Hawaiian Ti pronounced tee plant is one of my faves and while it is all over the islands I've NEVER really seen them here in SWFL all that much. So imagine my surprise when I was at HD the other day and they had a BUNCH 2 different sizes of Ti plants and so I bought one! Then it dawnd on me I've been away from home for a long time and...while all my plants are outdoor plants they are all grown in potters!! Anyhoo I was looking for a video specifically because I have 3 Ti plants stems in the nursery potter and I am curious if I can seperate them 🤔? Or should I keep them in that? I do appreciate how informative your video is and I LOVE ALL OF YOUR FOLIAGE it is absolutely beautiful I wonder what your area looks like now? Do you only propaget your Ti plants that way? I have read a few articles(I am more of a kinesthetic learner) so reading wasn't very helpful even the one w/pictures provided was a tad confusing so I thought I'd pop over to YT and honestly I'm not finding much and what I'm finding ppl aren't keeping camera on plant when filming its quite frustrating!! Sorry if I sound like I'm grumbling I am just trying to learn lol! Plant novice here that has really taken to plants in an extraordinary way that I'm sure some can attest to. 😊🪴🌱💕
    Once again tnx for your vidya greatly appreciated. I know this video is older so not sure if I'll get a response or not blessings er'body 😻🐾🐈‍⬛🐈🐾😻

      Aloha I can't believe I'm just now seeing this too as all my notis are on lol I am starting up my own channel it's called Butterflys Botannicals 4 Beginners haven't posted yet, I have loads of vidyas but up until about a week ago haven't really felt the green light to go. And, I'm still doing life so getting it up off the ground has proven to be more than I thought it would be...not making excuses just being real! Okay NOW ABOUT THE TI PLANT guess what it was sick I mean so sick I returned it back to HD but in its being so sick the top of one of the stems fell off and I remembered your vidya(video) and I inspected it over thoroughly and it looked fine, however I quarantined even the tip of this(even though I quarantined the ti plant too) and I put it in a plastic bottle in the house and I said okay God if it roots it roots its up to you now...and it took awhile but it ROOTED and so idk how long but after awhile I let it root some more and then I put it in a potter and I have it growing under the carport of my house for right now. Now Ian, we put most of my plants in the shed under our carport except my pineapples and my broms we lined them up along side the house and by the Grace of God only got pulled a little bit out and of course the salinity of the air turned some of the tips a wee bit brown on a couple of other plants I forgot to mention we left along side house, as I'm a 1.5 miles from beach we were in the eye. We also sheltered in place that was scary! I hope you folks did fine during Ian? Okay be blessed and thanks for the pro tips I appreciate them😁

      That is an awesome response! I love these plants and I was in the eye of Ian and took hours of sustained 100+ miles an hour wind shear up to 200...my heart sank over the years of efforts lost in a day, however these plants are providing me the most beautiful pink foliage...I trimmed them back hard, took.the tops and stuck.them in new places and will have more beautiful foliage in the next year I believe...yes, some won't make it but the others will replace the lost and make for a beautiful place. • @GardeningWithHeidi
      @GardeningWithHeidi  Před 3 lety +3

      You can do either, sometimes it is good to leave them on if you think another frost is coming to protect the plant...then cut them back when out of the woods, if you cut them and think another hard snap might hit, just put a black grow bucket over it for the night if you want more protection. Keep growing!

I would trim back now... the dead material. Let it rejuvenate in the warmer months then trim to propagate...You can transplant cutting about anytime, the winter months take a little longer to grow, but the roots get established and go deeper for water...let me knkwnhow that works out for you! • @GardeningWithHeidi
      @GardeningWithHeidi  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi! Very cool! Yes you're correct, wait till spring after you see new growth. Unless, you have several stalks, you could experiment with one. Plants tend to have dormant periods, so moving your plant inside would be a time for less growth. Make sure to not over water it and let your tap water sit over night in a plastic container to avoid brown leaf. Indirect light should be fine, make sure it is not close to any heat source to dry out (radiator, fireplace, heat vent) they like humidity...let me know how it works! Stay warm up there!

    • @GardeningWithHeidi
      @GardeningWithHeidi  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi. I would plant it in the ground, plants just do better in the ground overall. Just water it with well water or grey water if you have it. Water it in well. If you have irrigation, a few times a week should be good. I wouldn't fertilize it now...let the roots establish and maybe put some good compost on surface and lightly mulch. If it is really leggy, you can trim it to desired hight and then just stick the top piece a few inches away from the base of the stem you just cut...it may take too...good luck.

    • @GardeningWithHeidi
      @GardeningWithHeidi  Před 3 lety +2

      When propagating, it does take some time for the roots to get established to transfer nutrients. Direct planting propagation is faster than water. It will take a few seasons to get something moderate...mine you saw are over a decade...but trimmed often. You can always start with an established plant in a desired spot and trim from that to start your oasis.

    • @GardeningWithHeidi
      @GardeningWithHeidi  Před 2 lety

      They do best is part sun, can handle full sun...when transplanted they can die due to not enough water or too much water. Best to plant a few so have better odds...did one take? Not too close to plants...mulch over fertilizer to inhibit run off...I have also used iron spray once in awhile.
