Today I show you How To Grow a Cordyline From a Cutting, and I give you some Growing Tips and tricks. The cordyline is an awesome colourful plant great for indoors and your garden.
I move to El Salvador and there are so many beautiful plants here!! And people are always willing to give you a cutting! I just love how my garden is coming along!
Very informative and detailed instructions. I have a lot in my yard and want to start a new plant to move to a planter on the deck. This is exactly what I have been waiting for. I am disappointed that they take that long to grow to a mature plant, but it is worth the wait!
Great video! Information is straight forward. Visuals are helpful. No irksome music. Just excellent! I'm going to do a cutting from my cordyline this weekend.
This plant was called a Hawaiian Ti where I bought it. I didn't know it was also called Cordyline until I started looking for info on how to propagate it. It's a pretty big plant with several stalks but I can't wait to make more. Thanks for the info!
I like to see where it should be trimming to make a new plant. Good explanation from the beginning of the video. Thank you for the video I will propagate these plants in my backyard, the color is beautiful.
Hi Greg! Before I Ldon't care about Cordyline plants, but pwhen I saw you demo on how to care and grow these plants it stirr ed me a lot to propagate in pots in my garden.Beautiful indeed. Thank you. Hope to see another demo on Catlea plants.
Beautifully demonstrated video on cordyline. Thanks, I have this plant but I hadn't a clue as to it's name. Now that I know, I will propagate some more to give a dash of colour to my garden. Greetings from India.
Amazing stuff. I have a Cordyline with offshoots that I need to separate, so I did a search and lo and behold Greg shows up! Is there anything this man can't do?
Wonderful video. I have a long spindly plant that has split into three. With your guidance I am now going to try and split into three plants. Well done 👍 😊
Thank you thank you...just potted some mature size cuttings from a friends garden yesterday, but didn’t scrape the stem ...going to do it now as it’s not too late 👍🏼👍🏼
THESE ARE SUCH BEAUTIFUL PLANTS. I HAVE SEVERAL IN MY YARD AND THEY ARE SO EASY TO REPRODUCE. BUT I DID LEARN THAT YOU HAVE TO SCRAPE THE BOTTOM. THANK YOU , GOD BLESS!
Thanks for sharing this information with us , I would like to ask you question please. I just started to root kalanchoe flower like 3 weeks ago can I add some of NPK fertilizer to it ?
Omggggg at a hotel trying to steal “ A PIECE OF PLANT “ 🤣🤣 here to learn how to cut ( propagate plant ) I have until Thursday it’s Tuesday !! My eye is on the prize … lol fingers crossed 🤞🏾 we leave at night .. it’s in the front of hotel 🙃🙃🙃 we’re in Florida I from sc .. I don’t mind being bann for this beauty 🤣🤣😩
Hello Greg! Do you know if there is any way to keep the leaves red and prevent them from turning green? The red sisters I have in full sun seem to be greening more than the ones in morning sun afternoon shade. Thank you
Notes for myself - cut woody peice, down towards bottom - remove leaves - deep pot w all purpose potting mix - scrape bark off end of plant, go pretty high, don’t just remove bark from the very end - plant deep in pot - roots should be wet but pot needs to be well drained - water every day for first week, add fertilizer. then water once a week. Don’t let soil get bone dry
Hello Greg I'm new to caring for a Cordyline. My leaves are turning brown but I'm not sure if I planted it correctly I have it indoors but I feel like I could use a lot of help to learn to care for her. Help please
Thanks for the great video. Can you please suggest what can be done when Cordyline stem is drying out in the middle? The stem looks brown in color and no new leaves are growing. The middle of the stem is soft when pressing. Should I cut the top part and replant? Appreciate your help.
GREAT video! PICKED up some cuttings a neighbor THREW OUR😳😳😳...knew I could root them...they are costly at nursery! QUESTION...what type LIGHT do they need DURING ROOTIG ?? I am in FLORIDA. ThanQ🤠
I live in Far North Queensland - I propogate just by putting the cuttings in water. I cut it wherever is convenient. You can put a rock in the ground here and it will grow 😄
Thanks Greg! The bottom 30cm of mine is old wood and that's where I'm keen to cut it. The plant is 90cm tall, there's only the 1 trunk with 20 leaves. After the cut, there'll be zero leaves and the stump will be 10cm tall. Will that 10cm tall stump grow a branch out each side? TIA mate!!
good morning i live in são paulo mata atlantica get this plant cordilyne i like it so much i planted it in a pot fron Brasil 🇧🇷 São Paulo capital interlagos
Thanks for sharing. These are my favorite cordyline. I have one in the pot from last year, then I brought it inside in the winter, but it begun developing dry tips and brown spots. I wonder what the problem could be..
I think my pink cordyline has died, it was a lovely pink colour but even after resoiling & adding miracle grow feed its leaves has gown limp brown & yellow, I seen on CZcams if you take off dead leaves & start from stem/stump they will regrow again so any help will do to get it back to its lovely colour again
I use a screwdriver or pencil to make the hole because I use rooting hormone powder. and do not want to wipe it off as I insert the starter into the soil.
Gaaaah I bought one a couple months ago from shoprite. It’s color really attracted me, but recently it got some mold in the soil and was drooping! I tried scraping it off the top and thought it was fine. The mold came back a couple weeks later so I decided maybe I should repot it. When I repotted it I saw that there was mold oozing out of the drainage holes! I put it in a new pot and new soil, but it’s still dropping and doesn’t look to good. Not sure what to do 😭 I put it in full sun and it ends up gets burned. When I first got it, it was standing up nice and straight, but now it’s dropping even after I repotted. Does anyone know what I should be doing??
I find my Ti leaf cuttings propagate much better when I let them develop roots in water first. The larger cuttings will develop branches along the entire "cane" of the plant if you cut off the leaf crown.
Yes, I agree that allowing roots to develop in water gives them greater strength. Mine are huge and very beautiful in the shade & in the sun. My very tall Cordylines have several smaller Cordylines growing up the sides of the main stem/cane with the luscious crown in full glory. I've never cut off the crown.
I move to El Salvador and there are so many beautiful plants here!!
And people are always willing to give you a cutting! I just love how my garden is coming along!

should the scaring of the stem expose the dark green tissue only? or should I see the light (deeper) green tissue? thanks :)
