Thanks for the shout out! Glad it worked out for you! 🤗. I still have nightmares about those “potatoes”. I used to carry hot sauce to cover up all the things that weren’t good. -scott
ah yes, as they say, hot sauce covers a multitude of sins 🤣
I miss the old brown paper boxes on MREs. It gave you something to start your little fire in the stove/sleeve that fits under canteen cup. It used to be cheaper to get an MRE for an overnight backpacking trip than the freeze dried stuff, and way better if you ask me!
hi, welcome !
I also do mre reviews and gluten free baking/cooking. Love your content! Keep up the good work. I'm a US Navy Veteran. I served in the Gulf War in the USS Prairie. She was a destroyer tender. Basically a repair ship for broken ships. We had everything needed to repair anything that was broken. I was a Hull Maintenance Technician. I specialized in asbestos removal and firefighting. I haven't done a review in a while. My partner of 14 years passed away and I'm having a hard time finding interest in anything. Your videos do help. Thank you! 😊
thank you so much for all your service, Hildy!! i've read quite a bit about destroyers but never about tenders, so you've given me something new to look into! as if i needed something else to get obsessed over... 🙃
i'm so sorry to hear about your loss, but glad i can be a little bit of sunshine for you 💛☀i'll be sending you some extra positive Schlee energy!
That's some thick gravy everything looked good I may have one of these I love meatloaf nice review and I'm happy you liked it 👍🏾
Heck yes!! I love old rations!! It's so crazy how something that old can still be good! Loved this review!
this was one of my most memorable!!! so far...who knows, i might have to find me a 30+ year old ration soon!!!
@@SchleeSchlee I may be able to hook you up 😁
Another good video..very lucky with that FRH
thank you, Rick!!! 💛🥹
Schlee that Meatloaf MRE was really good it's good to see you try and some of those older MREs out too thanks for showing. The Tootsie Rolls were still in really good shape that generally means that the MRE has been taken care of and kept in a nice cool dry place. THX for the review.
i know for sure this ration came from a reputable source, he definitely takes care of these! :)
Now that's a tasty ration! Nice one, Schlee.
thank you!!!
That is nice meal, i would eat it all for once! This weekend Lady next door had yard sale with bunch of pieces from MRE of this vintage, only few mains, lots of sides in cardboard like this. I was afraid of the age, got about 25 TP packages for 50 cents. next sale i may try some. looked like her dads stuff, he traveled in a RV in the SW, i was worried about how they where stored. Great job!!
how neat! i've seen a couple bits and bobs from MREs around thrift stores, but i haven't had any big finds like that yet. hopefully that will change soon!
Great review! Now I’m going to have to try an old vintage MRE!
and then you're gonna film a review about it, right?? :)
Another great review. I have actually never had a ration as old as this one but it looked pretty good. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
By the way, Kiwi Dude posted a review video today for the first time in 7 years!!
that was SUCH an amazing surprise!! of course i watched it right away 🥰
I missed this one. Which means this review is making me feel old 🤣
🤣🤣
I really like it when the FRHs work it's always a big plus! Sometimes you can add salt and that will help too. Good job 👍
that FRH was a star!!! definitely made the ration even more fun :)
Green nails appear to be better for for breaking open the "easy" seal.
I hated Tootsie rolls as a kid, might have to try one again after to many years.
Is it me or is the beautiful MRE spoon slightly more dark chocolate colored than the regular brown? (Might be the camera exposure setting)
My opinion about having two different drinks is that's beneficial for morale as someone will trade me the lemon lime for a tea drink.
Try cutting the MRE peanut butter or jelly very close to the small part or the corner, squeezing it out of the very tiny hole a little bit bigger than a toothpick hole definitely does something different as far as texture and spreadability. (Also you can make more detailed art if you'd like!)
You missed the chance to put the bbq sauce (just a bit) in the potato and butter mash. Also need to stack the peanut butter with cookie between two crackers. Fond memories of that.
i think the Beautiful MRE Spoon looked different just because of the lighting, it was very cloudy that day so everything was a bit off! i always forget about the trading aspect of these rations, since it's just me eating these in a room by myself 🙃 i'll add your peanut butter/cookie sandwich to my list of MRE recipes to try! 💛
This looked really good, now I might have to make meatloaf this weekend….. I have never had BBQ sauce on meatloaf, I may have to try it….
i would definitely recommend it!
LOL....and so it begins! The quest for the old weird stuff! I knew you would come to the dark side. :)
🤣🤣 Love it!
i guess it was inevitable 🤣 y'all can keep the food poisoning to yourselves though!!
@@SchleeSchlee I don't wish that on anyone! Certainly not you Schlee! It is kind of addicting.....ooooh I ate what and it was how old? What's next...LOL.
I literally was debating the Spanish ration and the US Meatloaf. I had both in my hands before I decided on the Spanish one for the Wednesday video. I think you me and Germs need to communicate! LOL.
@@RationNerd apparently we do 🤣funnily enough i have a Spanish ration like the one you just uploaded waiting in my stash!! maybe someday we can work out some kind of triple threat ration review...
i hope you enjoy the meatloaf whenever you get to try it!! :)
It seems off to me to have gravy on meat loaf, especially when it's flat like the piece in your ration, it's more like Salisbury steak. I've only ever had it with ketchup. Is that a regional thing?
i think it is regional! down here we always serve meatloaf with ketchup, and Salisbury steak is always with gravy. i think maybe in the Midwest they do the onion gravy with meatloaf...despicable
What is the difference between a meatloaf and a Salisbury steak?
They're quite similar in a lot of aspects, but the main differences are Salisbury steak is formed into patties which are usually fried or broiled, then served with an onion based gravy, while meatloaf is baked and topped with a ketchup based sauce, and sliced into portions before serving. At least, that's how we do it in Carolina!!
