Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev (Сергей Сергеевич Прокофьев/Sergey Sergeyevich Prokofiev) (1891-1953) was a Russian/Soviet composer, pianist, and conductor. His works range from piano sonatas to operas, and he is regarded as one of the most important composers of the 20th century.
This piece is written for pedagogical purposes, and it was commissioned by the Soviet Union's Committee of Arts Affairs. The premiere was by Ruggiero Ricci on 10 July 1959. It is in a classical form.
It’s not my favorite Sonata for Solo Violin (some parts sound really hastily written), but it is a nice piece to use for study purposes.
