  • With the largest cargo area in the segment, a roomy 3rd row and more tech than the rest of the minivan segment put together, Kia is really gunning for the shrinking minivan market in a big way. Add to that their first hybrid drivetrain option and you've got a solid alternative to the Odyssey, Sienna, and Pacifica... As long as you don't want AWD, because if you do the Toyota and Chrysler are still the only options. On the other hand, the 32 MPG (estimated) hybrid will be the option to pick if you prefer a more traditional driving system as this doesn't use a planetary e-CVT like the Pacifica and Sienna do. We don't yet know what that will mean for real-world fuel economy, but most outlels (us included) failed to get the EPA numbers in the Sienna while the Paficica out-indexed the EPA figures. In our test loops the Sienna was closer to 30 than the 36 MPC combined number, especially in hilly areas where the naturally aspirated engine had to really scream to get the Sienna up the hills. The turbo in the Carnival might help here because it makes notably more torque than the Toyota 2.5L engine, but only time will tell.
