butt touch (ă„ïżŁ ÂłïżŁ)ă„ (___)___) - Hry
I owned a Game Boy Light (gold color) when I was little.
My uncle bought it for me and my two nephews when he came back from his trip to Japan.
me too! but for it was my crazy travel godmother :) i still have it and love it... just the battery cap is missing.
Dang, that must have tripped all the other kids out
"Playing only when the street light passed" That is exactly how I remember playing my game boy đ. This and flashlight in the middle of the night trying to catch all Pokemon's. Jeeez those batteries were expensive đ
Yes, I immediately knew what he meant when he said that. Memories...
Lucky me, I had a street light outside my window as a kid :)
Whatâs weird is that I knew a kid who had one of these when I was in 1st-3rd grade before both the gbc came out and he switched schools. He said his dad got it on a business trip to Japan though. What a cool GameBoy.
This was so great to watch. My family visited Japan when I was 8 back in 1998 and my Dad bought this for himself as a souvenir. Like you said, it was exclusive to Japan - I remember waiting for this to come out in the states and it never did.
Japan keeps all the good stuff to themselves
Import shops in LA and New York sold these in their games section back in the 90s also I remember seeing them sold in international airport gaming stores so definitely some people outside of Japan had access buy them
I agree but cities/shop owners wanting that product were anomalies. Very rarely would a kid stumble across these in America somehow and not know it was something special.
A bunch of channels put out regular content.....and sadly....many of these are crap content. You guys keep it rad and keep the quality up âïž
this is the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me
Quality over quantity!!!
@@WulffDen-Is it an Advance SP? What? If it's not Advance SP then it's not the best GameBoy.
@@WulffDen-OK. I stand corrected. Just the OG family.
That hurts!
the light was the best thing I have ever owned. This is literally the most golden.
Why do you keep making videos on things i didn't know that i wanted to see
Bob just knows man. He just KNOWS.
you're welcome
Bob is phsycic. Bob is alakazam
Chicks dig my Gameboy.
I remember having some weird contraption that hooked onto the top of the gameboy, but there was a light and a magnifying glass so that the screen got "bigger" and there was light directly on it. It was weird but very effective. I wonder if I still have it somewhere?
Flea I had that as well for my Gameboy and Game Gear.
That is called the "light boy". I have one sealed in the box.
Yeah that's Light Boy. An hilarious add on now in retrospect.
it brought a tear to my eye when you said 'or when your parents were driving and a streetlight went by'. oh, the struggles these generations wont understand. looooooooooool
I know Haha it was hell when you think about it now days everything's backlit aha
Thank you for making a video on this obscure device! Itâs my favorite handheld I own, and every other documentary or handheld history video glances directly over it, quoting obscure brands and competitors, but never the light.
I bought a modded original Gameboy advance off the internet. Uses the backlight screen of the gba sp. Love it. Thinking of getting a modded gameboy color too.
And yes Metal Gear Solid for the Game Boy Color is an amazing game
There are two types of Modded GBC, front light and back light. Front light will cost less but just like the original SP, doesn't have as great lighting (although i've seen some pretty damn good ones). Back light GBC use the AGS101 screen (or chinese knock off) and can cost $200+. Those are much more difficult to mod, therefore the higher price tag.
I've been really thinking about doing both, I've been wanting to get the Pikachu GBC and give it a backlight, and get an original GBA, give it a backlight and color it to look like a Super Famicom
You should consider the GB boy color, its a gameboy color knock off that is backlit and is actually pretty good. Costs about $50
Actually one of my friends had that... until now i thought my memory was messing with me... (his dad was working overseas) It was like 2007 and im from germany. Im really glad to see that my childhood memories aren't fading. I also exactly remember my aunt gifting me my red gameboy pocket with Pokemon Yellow â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
I had pokemon yellow AND a yellow gameboy
I have 2 of these, and in my opinion these are the best way to play monochrome gameboy games. Its more comfortable to hold than the SP and it can be played Both in Direct Sunlight and total darkness, that makes it unique because SP ags101 and later lcd are hard to see in daylight.
I just bought the limited edition, Japanese, Toys r us exclusive, yellow see through, Gameboy Light. And I am not ashamed.
The screen on the pocket is a TN screen that is vastly superior to the STN screen on the original gameboy. To say it didn't address the screen issue is just wrong.
Also, the AGS-101 doesn't have 'a front light and a backlight', it just has a backlight.
I like best how the Pocket fixed the ghosting issues somewhat and also gave the games a proper black and white color rather than the original pea soup green.
6:22 - 6:28 XD I just love your comedy side to your content XD. Like, I am always here to cool Nintendo content, and you never fail to dissapoint.
In manhattan in the lower 90s (west side) we had a place called "cyber games" where they always had some import gameboys from japan. I remember owning an pink advance before they got big in the states and i deff saw some gameboy lights on the shelves as a kid. what a great video! now i need to try and grab one of these!
i watched this channel from when it had about 40k ? i have watched every single video up till now. great stuff. keep it up
I love the look of the Light, agreed tht it has that nice Blade Runner 80âs tech look thatâs lost in later gens. I recently grabbed a mother 3 translation cartridge and all the stuff to refurbish my Advance SP. and make it purple.
Love The GB Light, ordered from japan at launch ! Still pristine with the box đ
I have one of these but it was the hardest thing in my collection to get a hold on, alot of them are broken in some way or another so its my holy grail
I was gonna make a video like this when I got mine. This is what I get for taking too long :(
i would have asked for your input but this video idea was conceived at 11pm lol
Homem galinha
Is the speaker significantly quieter than the DMG? I just bought one and it seems too quiet. My headphone also only work in one ear
06:25 That would so work on me, as I am a big Nintendo nerd đ
Why do people use the word "nerd" so loosely? A nerd is a student in school or university who excels in academics.
Maybe the word you meant to use is "geek"?
I think some of the confusion comes from the fact that the original gameboy(large carrying case edition set) came with a "gameboy LIGHT" it was literally a huge attachment that had a magnifying glass and light on it so you could play in the dark. I found this set at a garage sale in mint condition many years ago.
Ah memories of staying up late or riding in the back of the car with he worm light plugged in lol
Respect for not drawing the video out to 10 minutes, Bob. Respect.
thats how we do
Never owned it or played on it, but I did see it available for sale as an imported item here in my local game store in the UK. It was very expensive.
My dad bought me the game boy color and the PokĂ©mon game with it, Idonât remember witch one, but it didnât matter. We travel through Texas for 7 days (yes is that big), and itâs one of the best memories I have. He even bought me the light so I could play in the night.
HAHAHA that bus ride convo!
Wait, the first SP only had a front light? I am really starting to wonder what version my friend had now. Was there much of a difference between the back and front light versions? I'm assuming the front light works by just having the light behind the plastic screen but in front of the actual display?
Is there varying levels of brightness with used consoles because of use and time or are they all pretty uniform? In the market for a used one and want to know if this is something I have to consider. Some seller don't even include pictures with the light mode on!
some kids had a lite on my bus in school growing up but i live in hawaii. lots of kids had family in Japan
Yeah I recognized that vcr sound @ 6:32 lol nostalgia
Gameboy Light and modded Gameboys/Pockets/Colors/Advances is SO good for stuff like Kirby Tilt n' Tumble and Gameboy Camera. Don't have to deal with turning your GBAsp upside down when taking pictures, nor worry about reverse controls in Tilt n' Tumble
Import games and consoles were a HUGE part of every non-chain video game store I shopped at in the 90s.
I have an original GBA that I modded with a 101 screen. It's amazing. You get to play every Gameboy game and the original GBA is really good ergonomically, and as I get older that is becoming more important to me.
2:26 The OG Gamebois
Crazy to think we used to play the gameboy color the way we did. I have the magnifier and light still for mine. I found the pelican rechargeable battery pack on eBay marching my color so I bought it. I really loved the gameboy. I played Pokémon red so much. Wish I still had my copy.
I incorrectly remembered the GBC as having a backlight, but was reminded of the harsh reality a few years ago when I bought one again. I'm not sure how I put up with no light in my childhood years but then again all the handhelds I played were like that so meh.
I'm colorblind and I want one so bad because the way it looks is so pleasing to my eyes. I hope I can get one for a price that isn't TOO crazy
This is my first ever game boy. My parents got it for me when I was 7. In Singapore the game boy light was common. I did not know that it never arrived to the states
Bought mine months ago, and now and again the novelty strikes back up and I play Pokemon
Red again (even though it keeps losing its data) XD
I finally got my Game Boy light in the mail today that is the jewel of my collection. The speakers a little bit low for my liking but nobody outside of a brain surgeon is going to be opening that device up. It is an original Game Boy light with the battery cover and I love it like it's my third child
Just bought a Gold GB light for, $60CND! It's become my favourite for OG Gameboy games. I mainly play Tetris, the best game, in my opinion. Also, I use my Krikzz GB Everdrive. Great combo
I had the light accessories for every one of those. The magnifying light, the GBA bendy light one.
Never heard of this one before, and i think that this one is the coolest. Im considering to buy one, just to play old games from my childhood with an additional coolnes touch :)
I used to have a gameboy light that my Aunt brought back from Japan for my birthday one year but i have since lost it and never found out what happened to it
Funny to see how long Nyko's been making weird-ass peripherals for Nintendo stuff.
What's the background music? Great video by the way!
Hello Wulff Den i was wondering your opinion on the minty pi project?
6:20-6:30 a look into Bobs dating life
Bob, i used to not pay attention to tumbnails on your channel. But MAN your thumbnails are great. i guess it pays off doing this kinda stuff in college. And a question. What happened to the early video? its fine but i wanted to see the video before school.
I MISSED ONE EARLY VIDEO ALRIGHT JEEZ
In 1989, Nick saw a trailer for a game boy. He loved the concept of playing NES games wherever heâd like. He begged his parents day and night for one. Finally, in Christmas of 1990, he got a present that his parents said, was video game related. Excitedly, knowing what it was, he ripped open the present. 100 likes for part 2.
How about 1 like? It's been 7 months
I know what you mean with everyone nowdays acting like they're common in the states. I asked a game store about them and the guy was like "Yeah they're pretty common". Me surprised by what he said, I told him they were only in Japan, and he was like "No they were here in the states too." And of course they didn't have one.
So I love you because I just ordered the Astro boy edition this was the first gaming platform I grew up on and I thank you for this video! But I did have a question when I buy games for the light do gameboy color games work on this?
Good choice and same here I'm currently trying to get a hold of that Clear yellow Toys R Us edition :D
Yes but Only the backwards compatible GBC games will work you can tell as it will be in a black cartridge the ones in a clear case wont work on the normal gameboys but as Bob said you're not missing much the color was full of shovelware minis a handful of good exclusives btw pokemon gold and silver work on old gameboys too
keep in mind that most US homes in 2018 use led and or "energy efficient" lighting which are "Dim" when compared to the 100w incandescent bulbs of the 90's go to the hardware store grab a good old 100W old school glass globe style incandescent and pop it in a lamp close by and enjoy that old school quality goodness
You could get the gameboy light in scandiavia when it came out (not sure if it came out elsewhere in Europe) but definitely in Sweden as i've seen it on shelves with my own eyes. Might have been imported but yeah there where places that stocked them in EU at least so they might not be lying.
Anyone else notice all the pokemon stuff in the videos lately? I think bob is coming around to playing pokemon
the ags 101 only has a back light, not a front and backlight. but it has 2 brightness settings
also the pokemon centre gameboy light is going for 1000 so i duuno what price you found but its probably a reshell. sorry to say
also i did the gameboy pocket backlight mod and it is way better than a gblight, definitely worth the effort, or pay someone else to do it
I agree. It's not too difficult so long as you have the correct tools.
dude, backlit GBC kit from BenVenn, ultimate gameboy experience
The beginning static noise was from V/H/S
Hold up i had a game \ comic book store near me that had like 6 of these when i was a kid and u mean to tell me it was exclusive to japan damn i wish i knew that because the game store near me always had imports but i never wanted to pay the mark up prices to get some of the japanes games and systems they had. It was the only play in my area where you could actually walk in and buy a neo geo...lol half of my friends didnt even know what one looked like
i remember gameboy colour screen was easy to see the advance near impossible
I have one but the screen docent work
I remember my friend had one of these back in the day when we were in grade school, and the only reason he had it is because his dad traveled to japan for buissness almost 3-4 times a year
Also its not hard to back light a GB Pocket so idk what your talking about
im sure in the same eway it's not hard to replace a joy-con shell lol
the color has an active matrix screen so it's not as blurry
Definetly copping one of these bad bois now.
Now light messes with your screen how
I prefer the GS out of them all (although I forgot which I had this or the SP), going for the upgrade from the Gameboy advanced to the SP/GS was a big thing to me before, because of the rechargeable battery (being used to batteries and buying a lot, it was such a life saver to get the rechargeable Gameboy)
Fun fact I didn't know how to charge it until my cousin taught me how hahaha.... I believe it was a few days of me thinking I can no longer play in it...maybe weeks..
My aunt in the US bought me a game boy light and shipped it here in the Philippines. So no, theyâre not exclusive to Japan.
I prefer the colour because it gives this small nostalgic feel
I'm on the hunt for one as well to finish out my collection. I'm tempted to shamelessly plug one my videos about this, but I won't.
hecc yes a new amazing video. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
THANK YOU
I have a blue game boy pocket with a light mod that I bought for 20 dollars. It otherwise looks exactly like the one I had as a kid.
Game boy pocket and lite look so awesome. Love that design
Yeah remember playing battle city on a gameboy light ... Good days
yeah, I'm gonna need that translucent yellow one.
the best current option before the release of Game Boy Classic, is to manually mod Game Boy Pocket or Color by adding a backlight
i actually just got a dmg gameboy in amazing condition for about 15 bucks and yes, in 2019, almost 2020 im currently playing pokemon yellow on one of those thickbois
I started looking at the Gameboy and I started wanting it. Sad thing, Iâm skeptical that the sellers will rip me off, and Iâm broke.
Pretty damn cool. Thanks, Bob!
What was the outro song
Thanks Nintendo online. You helped me find an awesome channel
I actually owned a GB Lite back in the days.
"Yeah, I remember that version. I had that as a kid."
"Either you grew up in Japan or no you @#%* didn't."
Or you could have imported like I did. And yes, that was a thing even before the internet. =)
Yeah, I kind of don't like how he said that. It's pretty dumb to just call a bunch of random strangers liars if you don't know for sure.
I told a game store they were a japan exclusive, and the guy was like "No they're common and were sold in the US." I never saw one growing up as a kid. Imports weren't that popular
Imports were a huge part of all of the non-chain video games stores I shopped at in the 90s.
I'm craving for one of those! even though' I have a Color and an AGS101
I bought one straight from japan and its factory sealed in box. I want to play it badly but as a collector I cant open it..... lol
I got one of these locally for like 40 dollars holy no idea how someone in canada ended up with one.
I have every gameboy but not the light one, i havent found it yet
I had one n never been to Japan we had a lil Japanese run shop in Yonkers ny... no toys r us
Theres a possibility that those pokemon ones might be a reshelled console
I have mint GB light CIB. Once I got it last year, first game I played was Mario Land 2 and it was almost unplayable. Screen blur and hard to see enemies. Playing it makes me feel like something it wrong with my eyes.
The screen lighting looks the same type used in the timex watches.
I remember standing by the window to play my gameboy
6:15 thanks for destroying the little self-confidence I had left... :(
Rad, I didn't know this thing existed. I must have one. Is it region locked?
NOPE!
I wonder if Gameboy Atlantis had a backlight
and now with the original gba and a ags 101 screen mod that is the absolute best way to play all gameboy games.
