People who say this sounds like Thy Art Is Murder are just scene newbs. Deathcore has sounded like this for about 10 years. Thy Art is Murder happens to be blowing up now so comparisons are drawn. Production is similar but this is the sound in the current evolution of deathcore. This is Exile and Depths have a similar production because that was what was in at that time. Its all Deathcore kids, it all will have similar elements.

It's like an endless cycle - Bands like Aversions crown just did a slightly better job covering their scene idols than a majority of other unsigned band did.

Would likely have never given this band a 2nd chance if this video wasn't so readily available. Absolutely digging it though! Not sure I can explain it sufficiently, but this album moves and turns at all the right places. Completely scratches the itch for down tuned, blistering alien invasion. If the Faceless' Planetary Duality is the revelation of ancient aliens and body snatchers, Aversion Crown's Tyrant is the heavy handed beatdown from a vastly superior species.

Charlie Deaver I think he was referring to my name, which a Beyond Creation. That being said, I think "The Glass Sentient" is pretty decent. I'm very demanding when it comes to metal haha.

Holy fuck, im a Power Metal kinda guy and i like to browse around Nuclear Blast and find new music, so i clicked this video and clicked on Conqueror and was thinking this ain't bad at all, then i heard the singing and holy shit thats fuckin... uhh i don't even know the word for it. No offence to you who listen to this, i respect your taste in music but that shit surprised me, respectful question, how do you understand this?

    • @TheInvasionPlan

If you listen to harsh vocals for a long time, it becomes easier to understand after a while. For me it took years of gradually listening to heavier bands before I finally made it....well......here =D. Harsh vocals like this are very percussive and add to the low end of the band overall. It can't really be compared with any sort of power style vocal because, for the most part, that adds to the melody, or the guitars/synth, etc. instead of the percussion. I'm sure you get what I'm saying. Anyway, if I have trouble understanding the lyrics, I'll attempt to look them up if they exist online, which for this album they do. Just as long as it's not completely immoral I'll listen to it (which is a very broad statement I guess lol). Like, Killwhitneydead sings about killing woman (metal \m/) in a lot of their albums, but I know they don't ACTUALLY condone murdering woman and they're good dudes. But if they were serious it'd be a different story lol. Metal like this is all about the feel and tone of the vocals for me, even if I have trouble understanding them. Thy Art Is Murder is a good example of that. If you wanna listen to a harsh vocalist you can understand moderately well, I'd recommend "There Is Nothing Left" by All Shall Perish. His vocal is heavy and guttural but you can hear the lyrics easy compared to this band. A lot of Soilwork's stuff is easy to understand when it gets heavy too (plus their vocalist can sing). Ok I'm finished lol.
But, yea, one more thing. If you like power type of stuff you might like DGM if you don't know them already. Very Symphony X kinda stuff. In fact, their song "Reason" has guest vox from Russel Allen. "Trust" is also a great song from that band. I love the back and forth solo from their guitarist and their keyboardist. Alright I'm done for real, sorry for the essay dude. Have a good one. *tips hat

Thanks for the info i quite enjoyed the essay, the harshest vocals i personally enjoy are Amon Amarth and Ensiferum. I also enjoy more symphonic and well Power Metal type music... Its sad how rare these intelligent conversations are on youtube, try having a conversation like this on a rap song or some top 40 bullshit.

Aaron Blom No probs =]. Ah alright man, I hear ya. So you're not COMPLETELY out of the death metal/core (any sort of harsh vocal) scene. Amon Amarth are really heavy vocally, Surtur Rising is my jam. But even those vocals are different compared to more Core oriented bands like this band, or Thy Art Is Murder, or Fit For An Autopsy, I Declare War, Whitechapel, etc. I prefer those vocal styles, but I'm always down for some Amon Amarth. Even then, it's sometimes hard to understand what Johan is saying. I guess it just comes with the territory, ya know? Like I said before, if you break into stuff like this with other bands that incorporate certain similar vocal elements it'll be easier for you to eventually get into this, unless you don't even like the style of playing. I listen to mostly all kinds of metal in all the sub genres, and just enjoy most music in general, metal or not. But metal IS my favorite genre choice.
I know exactly what you mean dude. Everyone takes things WAAAY to personal and their thoughts flood right out of the fingers onto the internet forever lol. I try my best to have conversations of this nature. Hell, even on videos like this, if enough people watch it or comment, I'm sure arguments will inevitably start. Someone always finds a problem with something. =P Glad I could find one good convo. =]

everything that's been said so far is pretty on point. I'll also say that some vocalists who use growls/screams enunciate much better than others. Johan from Amon Amarth is a good example of a growler who enunciates really well and you can understand what he's saying 98% of the time without too much effort. I honestly can't understand most of what this band's vocalist is saying, but I enjoy the music anyway. I enjoy growls/screams in general because of how powerful and harsh and demonic they sound "brutal" if you will- they tend to be very emotive in a different way than singing and really convey a sense of rage and pain and menace. Generally the less human and more extreme the better, though I do prefer to be able to understand the lyrics as well.
I love a good clean vocalist too- I myself listen to quite a bit of power metal, and I love the soaring, almost operatic vocal style they use, the piercing high notes. I'm very fond of the clean vocals used in doom metal too- some of those guys have really unique singing voices and I like when they use a baritone register since that's less common in metal. Warrell Dane from Nevermore is probably my favorite singer, tied with Dio, with Rob Halford following as a close second.
I thought the comment that screaming is more percussive was very insightful, its definelty using the voice as a rhythm instrument instead of as a melodic one. I think a good example of that would be The Acacia Strain- Vincent's growls are very percussive and rhythmic, and they dominate the music, I almost don't even notice the riffs underneath sometimes. He also enunciates very well. I'm not sure if you'd like them as they play a very straightforward, almost simplistic chuggy style of deathcore- its very much like some of the original metallic hardcore (Hatebreed is not the best, but probably the most recognizable example of the style) but made vastly heavier. The lyrics are very catchy.

Alexander Simmons I like you for even mentioning Rob Halford's name lol =]. Judas Priest is my all time favorite band, I've got everything from Rocka Rolla, all the way to Redeemer, although I need that one on physical release. I respect Nevermore and Dane for what they've done for the scene but Nevermore was never really my thing. Love Jeff Loomis though. Sick player, and Conquering Of Dystopia is a great with him. Oh yea, and Arch Enemy now haha. Also, Dio is god \m/. But I digress.
Anyway, I agree with you, about Johan. Compared to a lot of other screamers, he cuts through very clearly, especially compared with this Aversions stuff, but I'm not big on his style (even though I DO totally love Amon) over a band like Thy Art Is Murder. CJ's vocals enunciate very well over other bands with similar styles, like Aversions. His low end tone is in a different range than Johan's, or even the Aversions dude. Those bands are different styles all together though, Amon, TAIM and AC I mean.
I agree with The Acacia Strain comment as well. I can understand Vincent even better than the other guys I've mentioned. Their new album rips dude. I like how you can really hear him projecting when he screams and it stays crisp through the mix. His style of screaming is on a different range than the other examples. I mean, he's definitely a good example of a percussive vocal, but not the first choice I would've gone with. I'd actually use Aversions Crown as a perfect example of a vocal that really gives off that hard hitting percussive, BRUTAL O_O, vibe you were talkin' about, considering that's what made me express that thought in the first place. While he's hard to understand, the Aversions vocalist brings in that sick low end, that you don't entirely need to understand to appreciate. His lyrics aren't awful though, so that keeps me coming back to this band lol. Hope my essay isn't too long haha.

Good it doesn't have to many breakdowns that's why I like blackened deathcore it doesn't have as many breakdowns I don't mind breakdowns but they don't have to be so god dam slow metal should be fast Simone should just make a deathcore album that has no breakdowns but then it wouldn't be metalcore but I know it can be done
