    I recently bought a tamron 85mm 1.8. its has image stabilization. I got it for 500 quid. it is really good for video and photos. am using it on 80D and 6D mk2... the VC is just a bit dodgy when using for video. but I am still not sure whether I regret not paying another 900 quid for the new canon 85mm 1.4... It is just so much more cash for perfect stabilization on video... you're getting the wider aperture also... but still... 900 quid..

    Great video, thanks guys. I took delivery of this today. BLOWN away by the sharpness. I got it principally for video, so yet to test that. But loving it for photos, even on the 80D.

    Its been a while since you answered on this post but wondered if you could help.Are the gig photos shot at 1.4 also where was the focus point placed for them shots,if you can remember.Also one more thing,id like to use mine for more events stuff so with large crowds of people,how would i go about getting a group shot of say 4 people in a crowded enviroment.By the way great video.

    Other than the IS, is the 1.4 noticeably sharper than the 1.8?

    • @TotallyExposed
      @TotallyExposed  Před 6 lety

      At f1.8 i'd say the 85mm 1.4 is sharper than the 85mm 1.8 and even wide open i'd say the 85mm 1.4 is still sharper. I wouldn't say it was night and day sharper than the 85mm 1.8 but it is noticeable. It all depends what your use is, if you're just a hobbyist and not going to pixel-peep all your photos then the cheaper 85mm 1.8 is still a great lens however we'd still pick the 85mm 1.4 over it. The IS is great when shooting video and having that shallower depth of field really helps separate your subject from the background without compromising on sharpness. Kai did a good comparison on all 3 lenses and came to the same conclusions as we have - bit.ly/2OWKJhI

    I got the canon EF 85MM F1.8 lens and to buy the 85MM F1.4L lens you need over £1.300 to buy them

    i’ve watched several vids about this lens. but nobody has mentioned about the clicking noise the lens makes when IS is on. So I am wonderin if yours does the same

    I have 85 1.2 ii and I like 85mm 1.4l is but I don’t know I really like the look of 1.2l ii

    • @TotallyExposed
      @TotallyExposed  Před 6 lety +1

      We agree, the 1.2 L ii is a lovely lens just was a bit pricey for us, however a quick check on amazon show they're coming down to around the £1500 mark currently (£1930 on the Canon site!). The 1.4 was a fantastic lens and we both love it so if you are after a new 85mm we'd definitely recommend it, especially if you do a lot of video as the 1.2 L ii doesn't come with IS, whereas the 1.4 does.

    Thank for the review guys, very useful. I am deciding between this and ef 85 f1.2..... arghhhhhh! Seems like AF speed and IS might be a better and more versatile solution. Lovely to see the image quality too. I recently also found Canon live chat very useful, helped with some custom controls in the camera, here is a link for those that might need it: www.canon.co.uk/canonlive/live-chat/?
    Thanks again for the review, and some stunning photos. I don't think I would attempt to drop that lens on the floor though haha
