    Just a head's up about your title - I was looking for a way to archive projects within libraries. This video title says archive projects but actually describes how to archive a library. Not a criticism, just more of a pointer. And the advice about excess render files was really useful.

    I wish this video titled How To Archive Projects, showed how to archive projects.

    Thanks - very clear and straightforward. If you want to use a clip from an archived library in a current library project do you need to import or can you link to save space?

    It is helpful but it doesn't show what the title suggests - I was hoping to find out how to archive the files on another drive not how to reduce the size which FCPX is occupying on Mac

    Thanks for the help!
    When you clear render and cache like you did and Archive the whole thing, if you want to bring the library/project back into FCPX to re-edit, does it completely take away all colour grades/effects etc? Or is that still within the archived library/project and all you need to do is re-render it all?

    • @TotallyExposed
      @TotallyExposed  Před 5 lety +2

      Yeah it’ll all still be there, all your effects and grades etc will just need some time to render out again 👍

    Awesome , So just to recap we need to delete the render files in the library and project , no need to delete them in the event
    I have demand from you , can you make a tutorial about the primary storyline and how to delete clips without affecting other storylines , because it looks very strange to whom coming from premiere software, and really what I like in your tutorials that you are simplifying it to new comers from premiere software

    Thanks again for the helpful video!
    When I do the exact same process as you and then exit FCPX straight away, the file size of the library remains the same.
    If I do the same process again, but this time wait for the tick to show up (rendering tick), then it re-renders everything again and I'm back where I started...
    I also tried to turn off rendering under 'Preferences' and repeated the process, but still no luck. any suggestions?

    hard to follow sometimes as you jump all around instead of precise movements to what you are talking about! perhaps you could edit the jump arounds out!?!

    with due respect, has anyone ever seen a tutorial video for a TOTAL BEGINNER who is trying to make sense of Final Cut's incredibly complex "Save as..." method? I have been searching for a video for literally hours, that explains at a ten year old child level how to SAVE A VIDEO i just worked on. So in a nutshell: i finished editing a video, and for my next project, i will need to use part of this video i just completed. but before i start to change stuff, i want to "Save as..." another name. So later, when I want to find this video (two months down the line), I can look it up. Now I may sound daft (I am by the way), but instead of a lecture on Library and rendering and how to compress and all that jazz, I am looking for someone's tutorial who explains WHAT TO DO, in a step by step fashion. Such as... "okay, so CLICK ON THIS mark. Got it? Good? Then CLICK on this mark, right here. Got it? Good. Then write the name of the project you want to save it to. Got it? Good. Then Click here..." etc. Sorry for my "vent", you seem like a really nice guy, but 90% of the tutorials out there (not just in FPro but other fields too) are giving THEORY. We do not need theory. We need EXACT STEPS (in a VERY slow speed) that we can follow. When one learns something, he is stupid. Thats why he is learning. Whether it is Final Cut or photography or brazilian jiu-jitsu or sex - you have NO IDEA what you are doing, so the right way to go is to BREAK IT DOWN to such simple pieces that at one point you can say... "A-haaaa! NOOOOOW I get it..." I posted a similar post somewhere else a few days ago, and I will keep doing it until I find someone who understands what it is to be a FCP virgin, and shines a light in the darkness of this world... Gracias.
