Im a 13yo girl, and i asked my stepdad to fix my bike because my gears werent shifting correctly. He rode my bike uphill but was still dumb to understand the problem so he denied to atleast listen to what my problems were with the bike. He got annoyed so then i decided to just do it myself because he's just lazy asf i guess.. In the garage and at the end of this video i understood what the problem was and i fixed it with the tools we have in the garage!! thank you so much!!

Finally found a video that addressed my problem, front gear would not shift on to the largest gear. Bought the bike used with this problem. Simple adjustment of the high limiter screw and problem solved. Your the MAN! Thanks for the videos.

I've had like 3 mountain bikes over the years and I've always eventually had an issue with the shifters. I'm glad I finally found a video on this issue

Im a new and casual bike rider. I just got a 7 speed bike from Walmart and not sure if it was like this at the store or if it was from shoving the bike in my little car, but the chain came off and it wasn't shifting gears. having absolutely NO experience with mechanics of any kind, this video helped me fix the shifting gear problem!!! thank you!!!

Letting the derailer come first to its "resting spot" before tightening the cable was just the thing that worked for me. Haven't heard any other online cable people recommend doing that first. Thanks much. Great help!
I got a free bike, but I wasn’t able to ride it because I couldn’t shift gears. I watched this video and 20 minutes later I had the shifters decreased, re-lubed, and working perfectly. Thanks!
Great video easily explained, fixed my problem my self. Before I was going to take it to the bike shop and know they would have charged me an arm and a leg to do the job that took me 3 min to do.
I'm glad I found this channel. My problem ended up being my gear disks came undone 😢 so it's $80+ paying someone to put it on or buy a new bike. Either way, rip wallet.
After a lot of research on YT to fix my bike's rear derailleur shifting issue I finally found the issue and solution! Couldn't find a YT video on this matter! I explain it below: 1) The most common type of housing has an inner thin wires tube and an outer plastic covering tube. Apparently after a while because of pressure the outer plastic tube jams and the inner tube wires are exposed that can get crushed by pressure on ferrels! This causes a serious metal-metal fraction between the cable and thin wires of housing, worse than any dirt or rust can do! 2) Loosen the shifter cable and release the cable at the derailleur (watch YT guides) and through all housings to free all housing parts. 3) You have to cleanly cut the exposed thin wires of housing to align it with plastic cover tube. Be careful not to block inner empty hole (where the cable passes) by crushing the wires. You need a sharp wire cutter (or a specialized tool from bike shop!) Then clean up both ends of housing and lube a bit. 4) Insert the cable in all housing parts and through the derailleur cable clamp. Since you lost some housing length, to have the same tension on the cable at a particular gear you need to pull the cable out of derailleur cable clamp a bit compared to what it was before. This needs to be fine tuned to have perfect correspondence between shifter and derailleur for all gear range (watch YT guides). Hope it helps someone.

This video fixed my issue in 41 seconds flat. Paused, removed an external headlight battery strapped to the crossbar, and problem was solved. (never considered cable restriction could be an issue until watching). Thanks RJ

One day I wanted to clean my bike and decided to also tighten all the screws I can see, such a bad idea I did not know what the were for, thanks to this video I was able to readjust all my gears and wires
My bike wouldn't shift into all of the gears. it would be stuck on the finer shifter side (idk the correct name) in 5th. The left side worked perfect. After watching this video I messed with my bike a little and now it works like a charm. I think a thank you is in order.
Just wanted to say this a great video that helps you diagnose a problem like gear shifting with a systematic list of probable culprits. This is what you need before you spend money on the wrong part/component. Just what the Doctor ordered. Thank you.
It is a very straight forward video. Thank you. My gears do move up to the largest and back to the smallest gear. The issue with my bike is always that the chain will not move swiftly BETWEEN the gears. I keep adjusting the shifters from time to time. They work for a short while but within a few days the shifting from one gear to the next becomes problematic again.
This video just helped me out today. I just bought a Trek Verve 1. The front shifter was not shifting off Gear 1. (has 3 gears) I tried the screws didnt help. Pulled manually on cable bingo..it shifted. So I determined the builder didnt pull the cable tight enough. Found allen screw at end of cable. Loosened it and pulled cable tighter with needle nose pliers and tightened it back. Fixed..gears shifting now.
Feeling proactive, I decided to lightly tighten all of the screws on my new bike. For some reason, my bike would no longer shift gears and I was stumped~ Little did I know, the screws at 5:24 are not supposed to screw in all the way! I can shift gears again after correcting my earlier mistake. Thank you for the video!
I tried following the advice in this video, and everything about my bike became worse. Then I tried reversing it, and it got even worse. I wish bikes didn't come with so much jargon.

I got a Montague bike about 7 years ago, and after a few years of continual use, it had difficulty shifting to a point I just got used to the gear it was on. I'm going to try these ideas and see if I can get my amazing bike back. Thanks!
Just tried working on the index screws. I'll need a can of WD-40 to clean off all the rust and such, but I'm successfully able to shift the gears. Rode the bike for a block or two around my house. Thanks for the helpful video!
Just for myself when I watch this again in a few months... IT'S THE STAND YOU USE! THE BIKE'S WEIGHT IS RESTRICTING YOUR REAR DERAILLEUR CABLE. TAKE IT OUT FOR A 15 SECOND TEST RIDE.

Yes i do agree and i change the cables when i have bike in for servicing but this trike is new 6 weeks old, one is not jumping to conclusions that a cable need replacing. But we got there and all sorted
I replaced my cable (Bell 4-cable box from Walmart) and rear derailleur works fine now. Also, the rear clamp had a groove that would not clamp the cable but slid on it. Had to wrap the cable around the clamp, works fine now.
Well done video. My Shimano Revoshift 7 speed was making a slight noise when pedalling except in the very high gears and very low gears. I decided to adjust it according to the manual provide with the bike (huffy Sienna).Well, I made things worse. I went from a bit of noise with a full range of gears, down to 1 gear. This video filled in some blanks in the manual by explaining how the high and low adjustment screws function on the rear derailleur. Thanks.

Your video taught me so much about my mountain bike. I’ve never worked on one before (its a 21 speed) and my front derailleur was stuck on the small cog. I loosened up the tension on the cage so that i could physically move my chain over to the middle cog because there were no tension in my gears while switching up and down. Now i have great tension and they are changing at least a little. I can’t get the front derailleur to switch between cogs... any tips? For now it at least works on one cog, but i would like it to work completely 😂
Lol, I bought a bike and 1 gear was at the beginning out of service and the gears were rattling all the time. So I watched some videos and tried manual and now I have 3 gears out of service, but at least it's not rattling. I am dying for this. :( It's so annoying when you don't have good tools or work stand for the bike, like in this video he has. You either need to turn the bike upside down, or rise the back wheel every time to test what happened after your last edit. Then you need to work in dark garage in very strange and bad position where your back starts to hurt to see where is that some screw that would do something you don't understand properly.
I also had this problem for a couple of years, then I bought some tools and a workstand to hang your bike in and it's soooo much easier and actually fun to work on my bikes now. I highly recommend a bike workstand!
most common is slack in the cable caused by cable stretch,adjusting cable tension @ the barrel or undo the bolt & pull it tight & tighten the bolt again.

I was looking for why both up and down shifts happen a second after I release the shift lever? (This happens on my rear sprockets, so I have to wait a second before starting to pedal again in the new gear.)

Finally found a video that addressed my problem, front gear would not shift on to the largest gear. Bought the bike used with this problem. Simple adjustment of the high limiter screw and problem solved. Your the MAN! Thanks for the videos.

Im a new and casual bike rider. I just got a 7 speed bike from Walmart and not sure if it was like this at the store or if it was from shoving the bike in my little car, but the chain came off and it wasn't shifting gears. having absolutely NO experience with mechanics of any kind, this video helped me fix the shifting gear problem!!! thank you!!!

Letting the derailer come first to its "resting spot" before tightening the cable was just the thing that worked for me. Haven't heard any other online cable people recommend doing that first. Thanks much. Great help!

Great video easily explained, fixed my problem my self. Before I was going to take it to the bike shop and know they would have charged me an arm and a leg to do the job that took me 3 min to do.
Find a new bike shop mine adjusted my brake pads fixed my derailer and taught me how to do it all again I the future for 15$
I'm glad I found this channel. My problem ended up being my gear disks came undone 😢 so it's $80+ paying someone to put it on or buy a new bike. Either way, rip wallet.
After a lot of research on YT to fix my bike's rear derailleur shifting issue I finally found the issue and solution! Couldn't find a YT video on this matter! I explain it below:
1) The most common type of housing has an inner thin wires tube and an outer plastic covering tube. Apparently after a while because of pressure the outer plastic tube jams and the inner tube wires are exposed that can get crushed by pressure on ferrels! This causes a serious metal-metal fraction between the cable and thin wires of housing, worse than any dirt or rust can do!
2) Loosen the shifter cable and release the cable at the derailleur (watch YT guides) and through all housings to free all housing parts.
3) You have to cleanly cut the exposed thin wires of housing to align it with plastic cover tube. Be careful not to block inner empty hole (where the cable passes) by crushing the wires. You need a sharp wire cutter (or a specialized tool from bike shop!) Then clean up both ends of housing and lube a bit.
4) Insert the cable in all housing parts and through the derailleur cable clamp. Since you lost some housing length, to have the same tension on the cable at a particular gear you need to pull the cable out of derailleur cable clamp a bit compared to what it was before. This needs to be fine tuned to have perfect correspondence between shifter and derailleur for all gear range (watch YT guides).
Hope it helps someone.

One day I wanted to clean my bike and decided to also tighten all the screws I can see, such a bad idea I did not know what the were for, thanks to this video I was able to readjust all my gears and wires

My bike wouldn't shift into all of the gears. it would be stuck on the finer shifter side (idk the correct name) in 5th. The left side worked perfect. After watching this video I messed with my bike a little and now it works like a charm. I think a thank you is in order.

It is a very straight forward video. Thank you. My gears do move up to the largest and back to the smallest gear. The issue with my bike is always that the chain will not move swiftly BETWEEN the gears. I keep adjusting the shifters from time to time. They work for a short while but within a few days the shifting from one gear to the next becomes problematic again.
I thought my Shimano 600 rear derailleur was worn out. Wouldnt shift into 2 highest gears. A thorough cleaning and its now working great again!

This video just helped me out today. I just bought a Trek Verve 1. The front shifter was not shifting off Gear 1. (has 3 gears) I tried the screws didnt help. Pulled manually on cable bingo..it shifted. So I determined the builder didnt pull the cable tight enough. Found allen screw at end of cable. Loosened it and pulled cable tighter with needle nose pliers and tightened it back. Fixed..gears shifting now.

Feeling proactive, I decided to lightly tighten all of the screws on my new bike.
For some reason, my bike would no longer shift gears and I was stumped~
Little did I know, the screws at 5:24 are not supposed to screw in all the way!

Just tried working on the index screws. I'll need a can of WD-40 to clean off all the rust and such, but I'm successfully able to shift the gears. Rode the bike for a block or two around my house. Thanks for the helpful video!

I replaced my cable (Bell 4-cable box from Walmart) and rear derailleur works fine now. Also, the rear clamp had a groove that would not clamp the cable but slid on it. Had to wrap the cable around the clamp, works fine now.

Well done video. My Shimano Revoshift 7 speed was making a slight noise when pedalling except in the very high gears and very low gears. I decided to adjust it according to the manual provide with the bike (huffy Sienna).Well, I made things worse. I went from a bit of noise with a full range of gears, down to 1 gear. This video filled in some blanks in the manual by explaining how the high and low adjustment screws function on the rear derailleur. Thanks.

Your video taught me so much about my mountain bike. I’ve never worked on one before (its a 21 speed) and my front derailleur was stuck on the small cog. I loosened up the tension on the cage so that i could physically move my chain over to the middle cog because there were no tension in my gears while switching up and down. Now i have great tension and they are changing at least a little. I can’t get the front derailleur to switch between cogs... any tips? For now it at least works on one cog, but i would like it to work completely 😂

Lol, I bought a bike and 1 gear was at the beginning out of service and the gears were rattling all the time. So I watched some videos and tried manual and now I have 3 gears out of service, but at least it's not rattling. I am dying for this. :(
It's so annoying when you don't have good tools or work stand for the bike, like in this video he has. You either need to turn the bike upside down, or rise the back wheel every time to test what happened after your last edit. Then you need to work in dark garage in very strange and bad position where your back starts to hurt to see where is that some screw that would do something you don't understand properly.
I also had this problem for a couple of years, then I bought some tools and a workstand to hang your bike in and it's soooo much easier and actually fun to work on my bikes now. I highly recommend a bike workstand!
most common is slack in the cable caused by cable stretch,adjusting cable tension @ the barrel or undo the bolt & pull it tight & tighten the bolt again.

God is great and he is our judge he will judge us for our sin and we can not do anything about it because God can not just ignore sin. thus we all deserve death and hell 🔥 .
But God he was gracious to us humans and had his son Jesus sacrificed on the cross for your and my sin so that we would not be lost and suffer in the eternal fire. It is written in the Bible: John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. so instead of you dying JESUS died on the cross he was mocked, beaten, whipped for you . just for you and me and all the mankind. he could at any second call down angels to help him of the cross but no he chosed to suffer for you and on that way God showed that he loves. Three days later Jesus was resurrected from death and that showed that he didn’t deserve to die because he was perfect but he taked the punishment of our sin so that we could live with God.
So turn to God and believe in him through Jesus it is the only way to eternal life with God. God also transformed me because I did disgusting things, but when I received Jesus, God began to do his work in me and thanks to the Lord I am saved. Please do not ignore this because I do not want you my sister or brother to be lost. but through Jesus there is not a single way to God for God is just he can not just forget your sin as long as nothing has paid for your sin and Jesus did. think about this in this way: you’re in a court you are convicted of a punishment the judge will not remove your punishment for the good stuff you have done no he will judge you for the bad ones. but if someone pays your penalty then you are free to go. God did not want you to be lost so He sent Jesus for your sins. It was therefore Jesus said it’s finished before he died. It means that he had taked the punishment of sin instead of you and me. So please Seek God through Christ for Jesus is only way. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life nobody comes to the father except through me. So please turn to Jesus and get salvation before you die. You don’t know when you gone die it could be tomorrow or today. Every day 150 thousand people due and they didn’t know that. So you could be one of them tomorrow. Seek you salvation in Christ.
Pray with me: Lord I know I have sinned against you but I apologize and I want to be saved through the blood of Christ forgive me and guide me towards your kingdom God . God help me to walk away from my sin and walk with your righteousness. In Jesus name amen 🙏

I just bought a bike (used) but when I shift up It goes back down. I have to hold it at a certain number to keep it on the specific gear

My bike has been like this for a bit now and I finally decided to fix it and this really helped
I was looking for why both up and down shifts happen a second after I release the shift lever? (This happens on my rear sprockets, so I have to wait a second before starting to pedal again in the new gear.)
