- What is there to say about a Palomino Blackwing pencil that hasn't already been said? It is a beautiful pencil - the paint job, the fit and finish, the boxing. And the beauty isn't skin deep. The proof is in the writing - and it writes with a lush smoothness not frequently found in other pencils.
I have held off on reviewing Blackwings because it's probably the most talked about and reviewed pencil, and I wanted to focus on instruments that were lesser known. But I decided I would review one of the Blackwings, perhaps my favorite.
While Blackwing has introduced many "volumes" of pencils with different exterior treatments, to me there are three standard-issue Blackwings: The Blackwing Matte, The Blackwing Pearl, and the Blackwing 602. Since I relate to the Pearl as a "middle child" I wanted to start with it. - Věda a technologie
Just found your CZcams channel, love it. Didn’t know there were other pencil aficionados like me. You can never have too many pencils! 😊
Hi Diana - I'm glad you found my channel! I totally agree with you - there's no such thing as too many pencils!! Thanks!
I've just found this channel and it perfectly matches my obsession with pencils :') thank you, good sir
Hi Madox 01! You're welcome - glad you found me!
You have exceptional hand writing. Beautiful. Well done.
Thank you, The Narrow Path of Truth. I appreciate you watching!
First glance at the title I asked myself “Palmolive is making writing stuff now??”
Ha! Well if you could also wash dishes with these pencils that would really be something :-)!!
🤣

Never let it be said that you have toooo many pencils! :) I really appreciate that you give the less used pencils proper time on page in reviews. There are a lot of good pencils out there that anyone can use and you point them out very well. But thank you for also sharing the Blackwing family. I have the 602's and I really enjoy using them. Everyone who likes using wood and graphite should own a Blackwing. I write with pencil every day but I do use my 602's for special writings. It's just my choice.
Thank You for your time Sir.
Hi Dean! Yes, the Blackwings are really special pencils. I don't think I've tried one yet that I didn't really enjoy using. I can see why you use yours for special writings. That said, there are a lot of high-quality everyday pencils, and this is what I love so much about exploring the world of pencils. Each one has its own personality! Thanks for watching!
I have the BW 602 and it’s always had weak erasure strength, but the writing experience makes it worth it.
Thanks. I also find the erasers on the Blackwings to just be so-so, but they do write beautifully!
What is your alltime Favorite pencil? Great videos. Love watching them.
Hi Russell - that is a very hard question to answer. My favorite changes from time to time because there are so many I enjoy using. I love most Japanese pencils: Kitaboshi, Mitsubishi and Tombow. I'm also loving the Musgrave (USA) Tennessee Round pencil at the moment. Thanks!
I have this and a Mitsubishi Uni pencil (also Japanese) and I don’t see a difference in quality between them. The Uni is literally a quarter of the cost
Hi Kobie - the Mitsubishi Uni is arguably one of the finest pencils available. The Blackwings are nice, but because they are collector's items as much as they are writing instruments, the prices are inflated. Enjoy your Unis - they are beautiful pencils. Thanks!
These pencils are EXCELLENT!
The best pencil ever made. Hands down!
ArthropodSpidey - these are most excellent pencils! They are an absolute pleasure to use! Thanks!
My favorite is the limited 725 edition
@@AlwaysAnalog I do not think so. Mitsubishi Hi Uni are some of the best pencils ever made.
Pretty posh pencil, too bad about the eraser. I'd have assumed it was typical white Japanese polymer eraser. After your review, I got some Mitsu-Bishis, including Hi-Unis. Just beautiful pencils. If you're getting writing utensils and there's an option from Japan, that one's usually a good bet. Thanks for the review.
Hi davek12! I have used other Blackwings where the eraser worked much better, so I don't know if these were a bad batch or what this issue was, but the eraser disappointed. The pencil, however, is a real beauty. I'm still waiting to write with a Japanese pencil that I don't enjoy. Thanks!
I have many exellent artist pencils but the Blackwing 602 and Pearl are the best to use for general use.
Hi IPJ Bradley - I think you're write that those two are excellent for general purpose. Thanks!
@@AlwaysAnalog pun intended?
UK price, not including VAT, for 10 replacement erasers today is £3.75, or about 4.55 USD
Thanks, Mario!
I used them and I liked them until I used tombow 8900. Tombow are my new favorite.
Hi Aag - the Tombow 8900 is a beautiful pencil. I also use them far more than the Blackwing, and they are much less expensive. Thanks!
The true Blackwings are the vintage ones that cost 100 dollars per pencil.
Sad that a pencil that good at that price has a sucky eraser.
Hi Russell - the eraser on the Pearl I used was disappointing. I've used other Blackwings where the erasers did better jobs. Thanks!
Love you videos by the way. Just picked up a Blackwing one step long point sharpener and had a tube of Home Depot pencils. Looking for other pencils as well.
This is a hyped pencil. We can get 2 Tombow Mono 100 pencils, and one Tombow eraser for $2.10. And the writing experience is the same.
They should be embarrassed about how AWFUL the erasers are on these rather expensive pencils. One would think that if their pencils are supposed to be best, then they should put more effort into the erasers in order to compliment the pencil.📝📝📝📝📝📝
I really wish these pencils had better erasers.
