the wiki says: Bonus resources will be generated 100% of the time while hanging out if there are 5 Villagers assigned that same role (6 if the role is Gardening).
I dug up the entire beach twice and then planted pumpkins. With that, I got all the memories for gardening and digging
Oh wow, glad I didn't do that now. However, it was still informal none the less as I had no idea beforehand you could dig up green chests. Now if only furniture bags always gave new cool items as they are so rare to get.

Don't beat yourself up. Some experiments work, and some don't. The majority of yours always work. Sometimes experiments show you what to do, and sometimes they tell you what not to do. I appreciate your sacrifice of Dreamlight and time to do this experiment. We still love ya, MrStarInSky.
I had the most luck in the meadow and sunlight platue. I didn't need to convert everyone into digging buddy, I had only 5-6 characters as digging. The last time I found quite a few was in sunlit plateau outside scar's house and next to the mine. I got 6 chests, 12 altogether with the buddy. Sadly out of all of them, only 1 was a furniture pouch, the rest was coins. Unless they fix the algorithm (the RNG) we would be stuck without the cute items the game has to offer
FYI The critical hits are definitely pre-determined and not random. I've had my Switch crash plenty of times shortly after getting a critical hit, and when I reload the exact same plant/tree/bush/miming spot etc. will give the exact same critical hit. Same for memory orb drops (and whether they are coins or an actual memory) as well as chest and pouch contents. (The one thing that does seem to randomize is which night thorn will trigger the coin burst minigame, but the chest contents will be the same)
I've figured out that I get way more clay in the Glades if it's raining but I've definitely gotten a ton of chests from there. Also another way to cover holes is to use any houses that fit that area. Game changer.
I have 4 digger buddies and I get double green chests, this saturday I spent 3 hours digging in mutiple biomes and only got 4 chests, two in glade and the other two in frosted heights, after those 4 I wasn’t getting chests for a while só I gave up
I believe the chest appears on the biome where the thornes appear that day I might be wrong and it might be a coincidence but that’s what it feels like

Thank you for being willing to experiment!! Also, be careful with hoarding the furniture pouches. If you don't open them they can become repeats. Motif bags are the worst about it but you might want to check the wiki!
I get repeats even without hoarding them. They still love to say the thing is "new" though.
@@seviin2685 Yeah, every single I pouch I get says "New" even if I have 10 of the item. That's not what I'm referring to. I'm saying the contents in the bags are more likely to repeat if you keep a bunch unopened, whereas if you open them all as soon as they pop out, you are less likely to get a repeat pouch.
@@seviin2685 For example, if I have 4 bags in my inventory, there's a likelihood that 3 out of the 4 pouches you open could all be the same item. (That's an exaggeration for the purpose of the example but you get what I mean). If you open all 4 pouches as soon as they pop out that does not occur.

Well I ain't gonna lie... after your last video I went and made some digger manuals. Thank God I only made enough to have 5 villagers. (I'm still making gem tile for my all encompassing Meadow Amusement Park.) I hadn't started digging yet. (I'm going to have tear up something, as my entire game is decorated.) They are killing me with these coins in the chests. lol I don't curse the game out as much though since I realized (also from your last video) that I have been very lucky with drops. I truly appreciate your determination in figuring out the mechanics behind this game.

MrStarInSky thanks for sharing this video, I learned your hole and rug tip! It stinks your experiment didn’t work as imagined, but atleast you got 2 green chests, that’s better than no green chests! Filling a chest with purple pouches will most likely take forever, but one day it will happen and hopefully you get some rare nice finds!
I’m staring to use more pickax polish now so I can get lot more gems and I’m also doing the shovel polish as well. Love your videos keep up the great content

Last Wednesday I got my second least memory for digging. From that point on I only got green orbs, a few purple orbs and some green chests for the next 6000 holes!! I need the final piece from a blue orb. Than I got 2 blue orbs in a row = Coins. Til yesterday I digged close to 20000 holes within 5 days. I got 1 table from a furniture bag, the rest were coins and I am still waiting for my final memory piece. What I can say is: There a times were You get more drops, but dont know when and why!? I had a day were I got 15 Orbs that had 8 memory pieces in it within 1 hour Fishing!

I have mirabel and minnie as my diggers and i usually always get a green chest when i use minnie.. dont know if its just luck ❤️

After your video yesterday, I added one extra digger, giving me a total of 7. Dug about 300 holes in the Glade of Trust got one green chest, plus an extra from my hang out character, Minnie. After that I dug another 300 holes no more chests. Only 2 memories from 600+ holes.
Also I don't if its true but I seem to get the most bonuses from the first character I ever assigned the job. This seems especially true for gardening.
Just got 2 green chests back 2 back with my 1 and only digger merlin 🎉
I actually got 2 green chests while digging with WALL-E (I'm planning on changing him to gardening, though).
I only have 3 diggers and i still got the green chest, and my buddy duplicated it.

love the video but i never leave the rug out after removing the digging holes and the holes always just stay away for me but maybe that's cause i just use the portal well to remove the holes every time XD
Yeah the portal removes them. I was having no luck with the rugs but never left the rug out.
To remove holes with rugs you have to place the rugs over the holes then back out of placement to "set" them. If you put them down and then pick them back up while in the same placement session, it won't actually affect the holes as you never actually placed the rug. So place the rugs over the holes, back out, go back into furniture placement, pick them up, exit placement, holes gone.
At max companion level, the companion hanging out with you gives you 5% bonus chance per level maxing at 50%. So a level 10 miner hanging with you will give you 50% max bonus chance to mining, forager 50% to foraging, etc... Any companion not hanging out with you that shares that role will give you 1% bonus per level, so 10% per every level 10 companion. So you need 6 total companions,1 max level companion with you for 50% and 5 background of the same role at max level to get the other 50% to get the full 100% chance. After that you will need another 10 in that same role for another full 100% chance at bonus drops.
Right now, there are 24 companions that can be given a role. So you're sitting at 280% chance given the 1 with you is 50%, 5 extra gives you 50%, another 10 gives you 100%, and the remaining 8 gives you 80%. If it's even possible to get more than one duplicate chest, then with those numbers you'd think you could possibly easily get 2 extra chests and have a very close chance at even a third.
My issue with this is that digging is weird, especially when digging with a potion. It's not like other gathering where you get a set number of things. With 100% bonus to digging, I did 3 tests with a 25 charge Even More Miraculous Shovel Varnish in The Glade of Trust.
Results with Me/Minnie and 5 other diggers putting the bonus at 100% were
Me/Minnie
Test 1: Coins = 175/56 Clay = 112/40 Soil = 97/42
Test 2. Coins = 111/42 Clay = 118/52 Soil = 91/38
Test 3. Coins = 100/40 Clay = 106/55 Soil = 133/52
1 or 2 memories dropped each test, but those weren't duplicated. I'm surprised chests are duplicated at all. I never dug one up during the tests. From what I've seen in your video and the math behind companions, I'd say you probably only ever get 1 extra though.
Anyway, long post with no real point I suppose lol. I just enjoy testing things and I love the videos where you do testing. The coins from the first test seem like a wild outlier, as does the soil in the 3rd test. In general though, there is a bit of a variance in how much your companion gives you as a bonus.

Thank goodness 5 is the max for each role. I was assigning all my villagers roles based on what I think they would do but now I'll assign some to other things as well and I'm sure soon we'll have enough characters where I won't need to use manuals lol!

No way… I just picked up a yellow pouch from feeding a sunlit bird.
Today I did 12 digging potions with enough diggers to get double drops. so 300 holes and only got one instance of a green chest, I got a coin and clothing bag. for my 300 digs and 12 potions I got 10 memory orbs, so almost one orb per potion
well i found the memories and the chest little more broken because why so many coins while i like the memories and furnitures

I wouldn't look at it as a failure cause you learned something from it. It's only a failure if nothing was gained.
Hey, at least you know. You never know until you try. This game is SOOO much RNG in my opinion. I mean, look at the rare items in Scrooge's!
Sometimes I'll get a rare items then get the SAME ITEM the next day....lol.

I'm thinking they aren't going to release the rest of the furniture pouches till the next update. So I think you got all of them from this update hence why money is coming out. Next update the rest of the items will be unlocked. Loving the video tho. Sorry you didn't get what you wanted.
you had a good idea its not stupied and you may be on to something no one else has fegerd out. and your right we need a better way to get thees furnacher bags and clothing bags and ya im 100% with you 45 mins cant be that bad for two green chest can it it is the qwiqest way i seeing as of now.
Hey, I've been doing similar lately and it's been pretty frustrating. Most times it's just coins if I do get them. One day I got Minnie and she gave me six chests. But that was the only time and very rare. I'm thinking possibly they are patching this, but who knows.

I honestly don't think it depends on how much villagers you have for diggers. I only have 2 diggers, and I used 25 shovel potions and got 12 green chests. Then I did the same again (the next day) and only got like 2 green chest. So It can be totally random in my opinion.
Number of diggers were supposed to quadruple the chest when I get it, but it turns out they can only double it:(

i got 6 green chests doing this on the beach as needed alot of sand i had scar as my digger buddy he kept flinging them at my head 🤣only got coins tho😔
I tried 500 holes got one chest with coins... it was pointless but I now have 950+ pumkins lol mabye the area makes a difference but frosted heights is not the area lol

You have to go to your craft table and select potions tab... there are books you craft in there that you give as a gift to your villagers to change their professions.

Very important information. You only need 5 villagers of each type (except 6 for farming) to maximize your duplication chance. It is math based on villager type and level, and 5 (except 6 for farming) gets you a 100% duplication rate.
Ignoring Ursalu since she can’t work, you can currently max every skill type except one (whichever one you choose to not max will be one character short). Doing this will mean not having to spend resources to change their type in the future.
True, but with 16 farmers I get triple drops, with 24 diggers I get quadruple drops almost every time, it just doesn't work on chests:(

Also, watched your video on all the items from the wiki, and which ones you wanted. Grabbed two in the last two days, Wall-E Meal in a Cup (bottom right display) and Slithering Rug (top left in store). So definitely in the game. You have a few items I’m after, such as the Toy Story carnival games. Sucks they are so rare for us.
Just dig untill chest , then turn off game , & see if ALL cheats are assigned to individual holes . Wich would be terrible design
