    It may be true that demons can put ideas in people's heads, but more often than that, I think they keep things out of our heads. CS Lewis said something similar in the Screwtape Letters

    If demons are pure spirit (which in many ways is a relation between people), and music speaks directly to the spirit, it makes sense that the right music can help hold certain types of demons at bay.
    To provide some context, I think that "mob mentality" or riots are a type of demon.

      In my country of origin, there was a horrendous ethnically motivated genocide that shocked the world in the 1990s. People couldn't understand how neighbors could turn against neighbors/families against families to chop each other down with machetes and do other unspeakable acts to each other. Some people say that it was "spiritual warfare" or demonically influenced since mobs of killers ran free looking for anyone to kill, seemingly with no conscience or mercy but I struggle with this: genocide isn't unique to one country/time or people group and I think that blaming violence or mobs on demons takes away our personal responsibility to be good people to each other and to follow our consciences to stand against evil toward others.
      I'm not disagreeing with you: people even played "cheerful" sounding songs on the radio during the Rwandan genocide to motivate the killers to do more violence. I think demons can influence people to do bad things like this.. I just struggle with the concept.

    Amazing points on the demonic, and I do agree that musical worship does surpress them and even drive them out to a degree.
    One point I didnt agree with is that classical musical is more beautiful than "modern music". As someone who was in my public highschoolcs choir, who's choir director was the wife of a United Methodist Church's music director (so we sang a ton of beautiful classic hymns and other excellent Christan pieces), I still think that there can be beauty in even the most foreign of sounds. Sound is a medium that God has given us for with the use of good or evil. Good is to worship him, evil is to not worship him. Worship that is made for the purpose of honoring God is beautiful in whatever form.

      modern music encompasses a large range of genres, but besides maybe Jazz, all contemporary pop, hip-hop, country, etc relies on small subset of music theory, a skeleton representation of a much larger field. All music has basic melody and can hijack your neurons to form some sort of emotional connection, but anything on the radio does not pursue anything new - which tips the scales to making personalities far more famous than their music itself

      As a classical pianist of 16 years' experience, I cannot agree. Classical hymns, the music and the message, are almost always more lyrical and genuine than modern. From my professional opinion. Take The Heavens are Telling by Haydn for example, infinitely more beautiful than any modern Christian song I have ever heard.

    "They set every psalm to music"
    Fun fact: Luther didn't like organ music, because it was too secular and it put people in mind of popular entertainments instead of a sacred spirit. (Not joking, see the Luther biography "Here I Stand".) Is there any guidance for church music in the legalistic books of the Torah?
    It wasn't really until JS Bach took personal responsibility to set all of Scripture to music (when he wasn't busy taking personal responsibility repopulating Germany in the wake of the 30 Years' War) that organ music became absolutely synonymous with church music.

    • @FlatEarthTruth611
      @FlatEarthTruth611 Před 5 měsíci +4

      I actually sort of agree. I think church music should be purly vocal and operatic/chanting, like what the Orthodox church has.
      As much as I love many different types of music and as much as I really love J.S.Bach's music.
      There is a time and a place for music, and churches should be limited to 'sacred music' for the liturgical worship.
      A church should be the closest thing to the kingdom of God here on flat earth.
      Another problem with introducing musical instruments to churches is that having Christian rock or Christian jazz, or Christian pop or Christian rap or whatever.
      Not everyone is going to like the same music, and so Orthodox chant/vocal and sacred music is universal in this sense.

    Once again a brilliant well informed video, as someone who flits between the Lutheran and reformed traditions a lot depending on the topicI agree on your assessment on the strengths and weaknesses of Lutheranism and Reformed, also I don’t know if you could stretch it out into a full video but you should totally do one of traditional vs contemporary worship music as I once again find myself agreeing that a lot of contemporary stuff is really not very good but I think there are quite a few gems such as king of kings, 10000 reasons and (i don’t know if this falls into the CCM genre but I think Christ alone is a brilliant inspired song) so hearing a full video on an in depth look at your opinion on that would be really cool or even a wider video on the nature of music and how it’s objectify helps show evidence for God since you’ve briefly mentioned it a couple times in a couple of posts and videos and That sounds really really interesting
    But yeah sorry I’m a bit of a waffler but keep it up with the brilliant content

    Satan was in charge of leading worship to God, the most common form of worship was hymns, it makes sense that hymns would not only rebuke satan but also drive satan crazy. If we take this to the next logical step: one of the satan's most effective tools for influencing people is through secular music.

      Where does the Bible say Satan was the worship leader

    • @josheroh1514
      @josheroh1514 Před 11 měsíci +5

      @@redeemedzoomer6053 AH! Perhaps I overexaggerated and got a bit zealous and kind of butchered my own theory. Ezekiel 28:13-19 speaks of an angel that existed at least at some point in Eden that was associated with fine Jewels and musical instruments. Jeweled imagery along with him being "set upon the high holy mountains" suggests or at least symbolizes in my opinion a high position in heaven. The choice to mention musical instruments is interesting as a tabert was used for songs of victory or worship which are the same purposes as pipes, a category of instruments. So from this we can determine that the angel was involved in music, specifically instruments, which is rarely mentioned as most mentions that I'm aware of(I could be wrong) only mention angels singing. This angel was found to have iniquity and fell from God's grace and thus in the passages there's a great deal of revelation sounding imagery about this angel's eventual destruction. Much like everything in the Bible there are multiple layers and typologies in scripture as God tells Ezekiel to tell the The king of Tyre all of this as it applied to him. However the king of Tyre is being compared to what can be assumed is satan. You're 100% correct that it doesn't say that satan was the director/leader of worship, at best though he was heavily involved in music which can still back up the point of secular music, especially modern secular music, corrupts the soul and is a method of satanic influence. As for secular music being "satan's most effective tool" I was speaking mostly from my own experience as I was weak to secular music, realistically speaking each person has their own weakness that devils use to attack us. I apologize for "jumping the gun" and spreading poorly made arguments.
      Here are the verses for convenience:
      "13. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. 19. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more." Ezekiel 28:13-19 KJV

    Bro of course Bach is the best, but you really must check out the Anglican tradition of choral music. Listen to composers such as S.S Wesley, C.V Stanford, John Ireland, Herbert Howells, Harold Darke. The Anglicans have produced so many great pieces of art that glorify God and it is way overlooked and under appreciated Christian music.

I like many religious musical works of history, not due to their religious background, but the emotional power and technical perfection they have.

    See? You figured it out. The fliquoue, the traingle, represents The father and the son, like you said, correct? But it could also represent knowledge, like in the bible.
    The only problem is, knowledge can sometimes be a curse. (In my case, it wasn't a curse until they got me. One day, I wrote a dark eye in matthews, because I was stressed out by certain images in my mind. I felt a "Dark spiritual aura" while reading the bible. Heavy disagree on the music point. Western harmony is more overrated than drugs. Classical music is overrated. It’s just melody soup. Modern music (1950-now) is more beautiful, and more of it will stand the test of time, I’d bet anything on that. It’s much more intentionally written, and written to sound good, not as some challenge to musical math as was often the cases in the classical period. Old doesn’t mean good. That is my #1 complaint with Calvinism. So much of its culture is worshiping oldness.

      This is probably one of the most ignorant comments I’ve ever read, truly impressive. First of all what do you even mean by “classical” music? Renaissance? Baroque? True Classical? Romantic? The western “classical” tradition really spans over 500 years of continuous development, and if you believe it isn’t “intentionally” written then you truly know NOTHING about musical composition. That is such a profoundly inaccurate statement. The entire field of music theory (which was adapted to describe modern music as well) was developed over this period, especially in the Baroque and Classical period. Everything was intentional. Harmonic compositions were not “melody” soup, they were (and still are) meticulously crafted for each part.
      Espousing the monumental historical and artistic virtues of classical music does not invalidate the virtues of good modern music either. I personally am a fan of rock and metal (and even some jazz) but I study music myself and greatly appreciate the classics. I understand that the main reason I like that type of music is because I grew up with it and culturally was exposed to it a lot, which is very likely the same reason you like whatever type of modern music you like. If you don’t think classical music was intentionally written to sound “good” (it was) then you just have an inability or reluctance to appreciate it, and that is fine. But don’t go around generalizing because you can’t understand historical perspective. I personally am not able to really “enjoy” very, very ancient music or music that is far removed from my culture, but that doesn’t mean I just dismiss it as “not good” and instead I understand I have a limited ability to understand it.
