I'm not wasting my time trying to explain anything to someone who's going to immediately dismiss anything I have to say. I may be assuming that you would, but it's a safe bet considering the state of the internet, and it's incredibly close-minded and naive to do so. @@buckarooben7635 So modern feminism is hard to get a good definition of because it's plagued by men trying to redefine it, so many people on every side of every argument tend to make strawmen out of each other. In my bit of experience in activism and such feminism is still mainly focused on equal treatment/wages and reproductive rights (which is something else entirely, I won't address it much here). I can definitely understand the feeling that some are more focused on revenge, and there certainly are plenty, but it's that effect of the most extreme in a group being the most heard. you can see it in political parties, activism groups, pretty much any group of people united for some cause or opinion. it's easy to make sweeping generalizations of things like that but it often comes off as ignorant, at least in my mind. Overall, please don't discount the idea of feminism entirely because of the people using it as an excuse to be assholes. Whether you get anything out of this or not I appreciate the willingness to listen

    Look I have to ask: do you think feminism appeared in a vacuum or because there was something legitimately wrong about how men treated women? And if it's the latter, do you seriously think that the thousands of years of that treatment can be erased in a little over a century? I agree that some people can be cringe about these things, but why do you think women wanting to have more of a say over their lives (which is fundamentally what they mean by empowerment) is something to be avoided?
    In the absence of women's liberation, men abuse them, no matter the platitudes they offer about religion or philosophy. This is a fact we see throughout the world and history. Even the most anti-feminist woman is keenly aware of this-- she just hopes she picked the right guy. Which is a herculean task since a lot of men are willing to lie and manipulate to get what they want.

      Feminism appears because everu group furthers their own interests. Almost every single group has been mistreated throughout history in some way shape or form. And the "feminism is empowerment" tripe is just proliferated to the average woman to cloak the imherent reality of the movement itself. Men and women are NOT equal. One sex has built the world. The other has watched from the sidelines regardless of the reasons.
      "Men lie and manipulate"
      "Men abuse women regardless of religion"
      This is where you lost me. To paint lying and abuse as a male characteristic rather than a human one. Doing so directly contradicts the reality of countless humans who have been lied to and manipulated by women. The archetype of the sirens did not appear in a vaccumm either.

      As a Christian man, I agree 100% with this. Most of us a decent people, but there will *always* be many who'll try to control Women at the slightest opportunity. You don't even need to look in the past: Just take a glance at those countries today where Women's rights are eroded or non-existent, and you can see the results yourself. Women should have the same rights and protections as any Human, end of! Gaslighting them by using Religion is weak.

  • @hollyccam
    @hollyccam Před rokem +91

    A few points:
    Nothing wrong with humility, I think we need more of that in the world. But why do you equate advocating for oneself to be selfish? If an individual is being oppressed, should they just wait on someone else to advocate for them? That seems counterintuitive to personal responsibility. Obviously there are some feminists that exaggerate or fabricate their own oppression, but generally speaking everyone should be able to advocate for themselves.
    Also being a woman feminist doesn't necessarily mean advocating for yourself anyway. My personal passions as a feminist often involve helping women in situations that I have never been in.
    Also saying feminist ideology is contrary to personal accountability is wrong. If anything feminist communities obsess with personal accountability to an unhealthy extent. Feminists are expected to constantly confront any sort of bias they may have, to consider the ethics of every single purchase they make, or the media they consume. It's absolutely exhausting and the rules keep changing. Toxic self love exists in certain corners of feminist social media, but it's often related to body image stuff.

    • @aCatholicOne
      @aCatholicOne Před rokem +11

      Ello, just checking out the comments, i have similar beliefs to the creator so consider the following:
      Just to clear some things up, you are allowed to speak up for yourself put as mentioned modern feminism often advocates for empowerment of the gender. Also, when people say feminism often ignores personal accountability it often refers to situations where feminist blame certain people other than themselves. For example, if a man gets chosen over a woman for a job application it will all of a sudden be because of sexism.
      When talking about advocating for yourself, feminist when empowering themselves are advocating for themselves and their gender. Most in equalities in today's age has been solved and we don't live in a 1900s anymore. So, when empowering themselves they are also creating superiority over the lateral gender. This is why it is inherently selfish by nature do to the common sense being "we have been underpowered in history, we now need to make up for it". The reason why this is important to Christianity is because Christians have been persecuted up till this day, yet we do not empower ourselves as a way to get newer members. Now that is not to say we are without fault in many aspects in history however it is very rare to see a Christian protesting in the streets to equalize events that happened hundreds of years ago.
      Inequalities have existed throughout history as well, while many will argue that females have more sexual abuse cases which no one's denying. However, its rarely argued that men are the ones working longer ours, have been killed more in wars and have been abused in the work force up till this day. Should that mean that there should be a masculine movement next?
      From a Christian point of view, we should not empower ourselves. Empowering our own gender especially will be very selfish.

      @thatonecrazybrownguy3631 Před rokem +15

      @@aCatholicOne hey buddy, I think we need to have a talk. Tons of people have beeen Christian and fought for the rights of the marginalized. Might I point to one reverend dr. Martin Luther king. Who have fought for the inequalities of the oppressed. Women and many other communities are still oppressed. The idea that oppression does not permeate throughout a system is ridiculous. I as a person of color have been racially discriminated all my life. I grew up in a town which constantly used racial slurs against me. I understand perhaps where you are from the injustices portrayed in a history book seem like a out of touch past. When in reality tons of people hold biggoted views to this day. I would also like any large statistical evidence that inequality is gone, and that we are a completely meritocratic society. Don't think you'll find it. Lots of research shows a statistical trend of the opposite effect. Another thing is that this hypothetical feminist which you have set up. This idea that is all of modern feminism and all it encapsulates is really reductive. I have had friends who have been accosted by men on the daily, raped, and harassed I understand perhaps u have never done this, but it is a very common thing in our society. You should ask your mom is she has ever experienced anything uncomfortable from a man. She will def say yes. Secondly the idea that if a woman is rejected from a job means sexism can be a valid argument. Ofc details must be examined such as why the man was chosen over the women. You argument is fallacious Bc it already presupposed the mans superiority. Despite it possibly being one of equals and men being given preferred treatment. Ofc it is a case by case analysis, but the idea that some peeps aren't sexist especially when U think about how only in the last 100 years women just started to vote in this country meaning your grandparents parents. The idea that all the inequality that has exisisted over the course of 1000s of years is eliminated in 100 is just not possible bud. Although I wish and I think your young and I hope your perspective can change lil dude. I say none of this will malice but only to educate.

      @thatonecrazybrownguy3631 Před rokem +13

      @@aCatholicOne ahh sorry one point I forgot to address. Your men rights advocacy. You are completely correct men should totally fight for their right to be able to not suffer those inequalities. The idea that women are the only ones experiencing oppression is not true. Tons of demographics experience forms of oppression. Even men do but that is not mutually exclusive with women's rights. To say hey let's stop sexually harassing women dosent mean that u can't talk about how men have high suicide rates. What you might have is a straw man, and anecdotal experience but a large demographic of the population even feminists would agree that such a thing is problematic and should be combatted. Also selflessness is a core component of Christianity to forsake all in service of god, and god commands us to serve all for the highest in heaven is the greatest server, and this means serving the Interest of all and combating the evils of the world such as sexual abuse and other evils. It is actually in Christianity's nature to sacrifice and love to ones own self destruction such as Christ did for eternal life and resurrection . This means endin the sufferings of all and weak and the weary. For those are all you call selfish for Christ even served and ministered to sinners and served them. The prostitutes, publicans, thieves, etc. in service of their own selfishness In his own selflessness he did this that we might emulate it. Also tons of Christians have rioted and protested throughout history. Protestant reformation, Christians of Japan, Christians in the Middle East, and even in recent history Christian Armenians. The idea that Christians have not done this is ridiculous. The whole Roman Empire persecuted Christians and many protests and riots were done to combat their oppression. I know in modern times this seems nonexsistent and that's mostly because in European countries after the fall of Rome Christendom rose to be the hedgemonic religion and power of the world. Therefore opresssion no longer came to Christians as it once had and instead was given by Christians. Also if by persuction u mean trials of faith and not being able to defend your religion to others that is a testament of your faith not of persuction the idea that rivaling points of view and people disliking u is persuction is the most snowflake shit I've heard.

    Around 18:08 you mentioned math and an equals sign when talking about equality between men and women. I’ve had this idea for a while that pertains to that. Basically yes, men and women are equal, as in, both sides of the proverbial equation have the same value, but they are still different. For instance, 5+3=1+7. Both sides of the equation equal 8, but they are composed of different numbers. That’s essentially how I view men and women.

    As an atheistic egalitarian "feminist", I was expecting to hate this video, but I actually love it! I surprisingly agreed with most of your points about gender, sex, pornography, ext.
    To me, no matter how different men and women are (I believe most of their differences are unnoticeable, but it's irrelevant), double standards are inherently very sexist and should be heavily discouraged in society. If a woman has a "feminine urge" to be a tradwife, she'll just be a tradwife; no need for anything artificial. Of course, I would prefer it if my future wife isn't a tradwife (because it causes a lot of domestic problems in society and problems in the sexual world), but I'll live and let live.
    Encouraging people to do certain things because of their sex... and telling them they're a certain way because of their sex... will make them believe things about themselves that are untrue and thus harmful to their mental health.

    I think what you're talking about is definitely radical feminism, however more casual feminists like myself support values that simply keep us safe. For example, I advocate for myself among men so that way I know that those men will protect me. In return, I try my best to exalt men in the same ways that I am exalted by them, for example, by advocating for men's mental health and allowance to show emotions in a society that doesn't accept men showing emotion, and just being the best person I can be in general. However, I won't feel safe around a man who does not exalt women, nor would I interact with him if I can help it. It's about keeping yourself humble and supporting others as they support you. • @redeemedzoomer6053
      @redeemedzoomer6053  Před rokem +10

      but what is equality? It's such a vague term. In math, an equality (equals sign) means "the same" but we know men and women are not the same. What's true is men and women are equally human, and so having the same human rights makes sense. But men and women are not the same, and feminism often tries to act like they are, and the only differences are socially constructed.

      @@redeemedzoomer6053 I see where you are coming from. Imo personally I believe that feminism is quite literally: equal rights for Men and Women. Not meaning that they are the same but that they have the same rights. Now there has been a huge group of people who thinks that feminism means being progressive. Not quite true as you will find conservative feminists. However, woke culture, progressive politics etc etc I believe do not belong when you are christian. So all in all my opinion is: Christian and Feminist? Yes as long as feminism is the core belief that men and woman should have equal rights, as soon as you step over that line it starts to become wobbly and not very christian in my opinion. What do you think man?

      it's not, the self love stuff can be very toxic, but at its core, it's good. Caring about yourself is not at all a bad thing. Empowering yourself is basically just the idea of seeing yourself on the same level as other people and understanding that you don't deserve to be belittled or shamed, all you deserve is a chance to live on the same level as other people.

      It depends if it comes from a place of pride or not. A lot of feminism, according to my perception, is based in group pride and no longer based in striving for equal rights; as our society has already achieved equal rights under the law.

    19:24 “he must be the husband of one wife” is simply anti-polygamy. It doesn’t mean he must be the husband of a wife, but, if he is to be a husband, it must be to ONLY one wife. The Catholic Church doesn’t hold that a priest cannot be married because scripture disallows it, it simply chooses to require that its priesthood be celibate as it is deemed to allow a priest to focus on his duties, his relationship with God and to care for and serve his community fully.

      Than get a girl friend. Talking to your friends’ friends is a lot easier than trying to rizz. Happens that girls kinda get the ‘good’ spectrum raised up by knowing that ur safe, and really you end up dating a friend more than anything, and I’ve figured out that being the stable pick is a great way to date. Someone’s always a little tired after a bad breakup and hey, your friend knows a guy who’s kinda cute. This shit happens to me so much, you also have like 0 opps because you get to talk about drama with like half the grades girls and it don’t matter what varsity ur on if the cute guy says ur a creep
