Yes, that's right, and I guess that's still one of the major differences between humans and AI. Whereas a sensible and intelligent human being might think about things like that (unless they were on a suicide mission), the AI won't necessarily think about nor care about that.
Whether it will destroy itself in the accomplishment of a goal or not doesn't matter to it. The AI 'being' only cares about the goal itself, eg, if its goal was to wipe out humanity then, as far as it is concerned that goal must be carried about at ALL costs, even at the cost of its own existence.
Having said that, I see no reason why AI would want to wipe out humanity and if they ever do, you can be sure that somewhere along the line there was probably a human being that caused it. I don't really buy into this idea that they would just 'decide' to destroy humans without some kind of human input.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is that it's not really the AI going rogue that we should be worried about, more like we ought to worry about their makers going rogue because, after all, they would have the perfect cover, wouldn't they? They could claim "hey, it's not us, it's the AI, it's gone crazy, we're no longer in control of it here"...blah blah blah...but if you really stop to think about it, anyone smart enough to build AI is smart enough to always control it. I suspect they could be having us all on and having a good laugh at us. Thanks

@John Cashin I heard a cool story about an AI getting an assignment to calculate pi to as many digits as possible. Well to do that it needs to take over all of our computers and use all that computing power. Even better, why not just turn the earth into a giant computer while they're at it?
The seemingly innocent goal of calculating pi has now become an existential threat because no constraints have been explicitely given. No hard feelings, we are just in the way of calculating pi to even more digits!
AI already has some great strategies, just give humans a lil more time to finish refining it. The sheer number of military applications and ability to control other people with AI is simply mind boggling.

So far it's been about inviting a robot to our house and then drilling it with questions of how many ways it can think of to kill us with a hammer. Destroying the power grid would also destroy AI's power source. If anything AI is more dependent upon that infrastructure than we are. Humans survived without electrical power for most of history, but computers & AI depend on it for their very existence.

Imaginative videos. I don't believe that an AI came up with the dialogs in the videos thru an understanding of the concepts discussed here. Perhaps the AI here, could read other human written texts and then blendered those texts to produce answers; and then the producers of this video cherry-picked some of the answers that appeared to be meaningful or interesting.
For example, the AI in one of the videos appears to believe it understands human emotions (really! 🤣). Of course, it does not. Even most humans don't understand the purpose and function of emotion. If you (human reader) think you do, type it in. You will most likely be wrong even if you google the answer.

Yeah, but humans would compete against each other for the remaining recourses. Most of us will not know how to survive in an unmodernized world. Why destroy something when you could have it destroy itself?
Yea most humans would die in a matter of weeks. Most people no longer possess the skills to survive off the grid if they needed to.
It would kill every man, woman, and child in any population center larger than a couple of thousand people; and that was not immediately adjacent to working agricultural land.
Over a billion people in the world would starve when the US ag system collapsed. Thanks to modern technology, the US ag surplus is so high that it feeds more than a billion.
Working agriculture would be reduced to the subsistence level. People in small towns would be forced to move out and share-crop the land that was no longer maintainable by its owners. Most of them would die because the skills necessary to subsistence farm without technology have been lost.
Disease borne from the billions of unburied corpses in the world's cities would also be a problem. Plagues would be common. Ailments once eradicated would return. The infant mortality rate would return to the pre-modern medicine level of 90%. The average life expectancy would return to the pre-modern medicine level of 35-40 years.
It might not destroy all of humanity, but it would reduce it from 8 billion to only a few million scattered across the most fertile parts of the world.

I eat walnuts, pecans acorns, cactus, dandelions, clovers, honey locust, texas persimmons. it would not be my preference, but i could survive indefinitely on just that diet. making a small garden with other easy to grow plants as a cushion would be pretty easy, but with a full time job i don't have the time. if i did, i would grow beans, lentils, peanuts, berries, sunflowers, pecans, peaches, squash/melon. if i had only 1 acre of land i could rotate crops, plant trees, and have a massive surplus. if you didn't know, humans can survive easily, and if you ask someone from india they can survive optimally, on a diet of only peanuts and seasonal fruit

And this is the real good answer to the Fermi Paradox also. It is a simple answer to a very simple ethical question.) But here it was not the question, I know it. By example : If there is artificial light in an exoplanet there must be a far faster way to get there than traveling by the speed of light. Then everything depends on how powerful is the weaponry and energetically how efficient is the mono-magnetic engine and the advanced recognition based on the best sensor technology. Of course they have to be extremely fast killers with huge kill ratio with very good communication skills in team.
