    I bought a new 2020 last year....owned a lot of bikes over the years...this 300 x is very impressive....just a fun bike to ride...I added the oem panniers and hand guards....I wouldn't hesitate to travel anywhere on this machine..I've owned Harley's,Triumph, bmws, and every brand of Japanese bikes....if you're past the point of needing to impress, this is a great scoot......happy miles...

      Do you feel the need of a Seventh gear? Can you drive relax and enjoy without to feel stress because the high rpm all the time?
      Serious question because I hated mine after just 100 miles and I had many bikes before too.

    I like the term "quite flickable"! I just purchased my almost new 2017 Kawasaki X300 Versys on Monday of this week. It had 1540 miles on the odometer and looks absolutely brand new! It was delivered to me by the original owner on Tuesday April 13, 2022 which is the first day that I rode my new motorcycle. The previous owner rode it to my state so that he could rest assured that I would register and title his motorcycle before he turned it over to me. First let me say that I am 68 years old. I am 5-10" tall, weigh 269 pounds and I have a 29/30" pants inseam. I looked all over for specifics on whether this motorcycle would be a good fit for me. I knew it was tall with the seat height at 30.9". But would I fit this motorcycle well. I already had a bad experience owning a 2002 BMW R1150GS that was a huge machine, a real monster. That BMW proved much too tall and heavy for me to safely handle so I sold it right away. I replaced that BMW with a 2001 R1200C Pheonix which proved much more manageable with it's seat height of a mere 29.9". But it is a 1200cc machine which means it is VERY heavy! So I bought a little Honda Grom which proved to be so much fun that I thought to myself, "wow, look at what I have been missing." Then I discovered a Blog online where a girl named Noraly is riding her 2022 Honda CRF300L from South America to Alaska. She calls her site "Itchy Boots" where she posts 3 videos per week on average. After watching her great adventures for a couple of months I decided that I must have a motorcycle just like hers. But then I discovered that the Honda CRF300L is nearly impossible to acquire right now unless you are willing to pay $2,000 over MSRP. Yikes. That is when I discovered the 310 BMW and the X300 Kawasaki Versys. I went with the Versys for several reasons. First, it was availability. Next was value and finally after watching many reviews on CZcams I liked the twin cylinder water cooled engine making 40hp. So I bought one! I have ridden it 60 miles so far. This is what I can report. First, it IS TALL. We lowered the rear shocks to the lowest factory settings and now I can almost flat foot the motorcycle. It actually seems manageable although I almost dropped it going up the ramp into my shop today. Scared me a bit. The motorcycle is whisper quiet. I like this because my Honda Grom snarls like a mad dog with it's aftermarket Vance & Hines pipe. Really it is too loud. But the X300 has a very nice exhaust note. I do not plan to change this. Next, This motorcycle handles beautifully. The ride height seems tall but the bike is so friendly in every situation. I just love my new X300. Finally, this motorcycle is geared very low. Extremely low. But I guess Kawasaki wanted it this way. I go through the gears to find that I am in 5th at 37mph lol. I hit 6th at about 43 mph and that is the last gear. It seems like it should have a 7th & 8th gear lol. The bike redlines at 12,000 rpm. Whoa, that makes it a screaming machine. When you ride 65mph the engine turns 7,500 rpm. This is very alien to me and seems insane. But there is tons more throttle left after that, all the way to 12,000rpm. Amazing! This bike gets 51mpg so the high rpm must be efficient. I researched re-gearing the bike but you cannot alter it very much without disturbing the engine's code(s). For this reason I plan to leave mine all stock. Finally, the seat is very hard, most uncomfortable. I rode 40 miles today and my Fanny wanted off of this torture device. I guess I am spoiled by the Corbin Seat on my BMW R1200C. Finally, my biggest concern was, "will this motorcycle have enough power to haul my fat butt around lol". Yes it does! The low gearing is so powerful that this little Kawasaki doesn't even know that I am onboard. I get the impression that the X300 could carry a circus elephant if one was so inclined. I hope this little report will help others decide to buy a X300 Versys. I sure am happy with mine. So lite and easy to handle. That is where the fun is!!!

    Hi, there is a simple way of turning off ABS on the versys 300, this often works on all bikes with ABS, and I thought it could be a great video that you could make to spread the word.
    STEP 1: turn on the engine and the ABS light will come ON, ride few meters untill it come OFF, that means ABS is WORKING (light on = ABS off / Light off = ABS on) then try braking and youll notice the ABS kicking in.
    STEP 2: Put the bike on its center stand, engage 1st gear, change to 2nd, release the clutch, and rev the engine until 7k or 8k RPM (until the ABS light come ON) then, your abs is OFF and you can rip around in dirt.
    TO ACTIVATE ABS BACK ON: Just shut the engine off and turn the bike on again and abs will be back to normal.
    PS: Keep in mind it turns off ABS in both brakes, front and rear, so now in dirt you need to be more gentle with the front brake, specially on down hills, where 175kg is quite heavier than a dirt bike. a KLX for example is around 130kg.
    REFERENCE VIDEO: its in spanish, but you can see easy the process.

    Are they seeling that as a touring bike now? When I got mine 2.5 years ago it was being classed as a small adventure bike. I've taken the screen off mine. I'm 1.88m and I get dirty air around my head at speed. Also, I prefer using my camera on a chest mount so no screen is better + it's cooler too. Since I changed my tyres at 24,000 km for Pirelli Scorpion Trail II it's like having a new bike. I've done about 35.000 km now and still can't make my mind up whether to change up to 650 naked or not. Enjoy the Versys (or should I say your other half can enjoy it). Liked the video.

  • @mookyzook
    @mookyzook Před 3 lety +2

    Had one for over two years now, most of the observations on this video are spot on, a very overlooked bike. I was riding large adventure bikes for years before I bought this, and I was getting more and more concerned about the weight and paying a premium for technology I never used. When I had run it in I took it on a two thousand mile trip around France and it performed brilliantly, would do Autoroute speeds if necessary and gave me around 78 miles per gallon.
    The only thing I would say that I've never liked about the bike is the high revs, yes it will do 90MPH at a push but it screams even at A road speeds. It's lucky the clutch is so light because you are going to use it a lot. Around town it drives you mad going up and down the box just for average low speed riding. That is why now I am looking at the KTM 390 Adventure, about the same weight, fuel economy, riding position and a reasonable price but with a lower revving single cylinder engine. The other thing is, although I like the Kawaski's low tech there are a few things I miss from the bigger bikes like TFT screens with GPS, phone connection etc (all bikes will have them soon, look at the car industry), traction control, cornering and switchable ABS for the odd off road experience.
    That is not to say that the little Kawasaki is not a good bike, I think most people would be surprised at how well a little 300cc bike can perform and it doesn't look like a small bike. I would definitely recommend it for new riders or for people looking to downsize.

I've cycled Hwy 13 and one hill went for 35km, so I can understand how he'd need to keep the revs up especially after coming from a Harley. Dear Versys-X 300 riders, would you say it'll fit a taller rider? im 1.90m weigh around 95kg. Thank you

      I’m 1.8m & I find it fine. I would find at your height it might feel a bit cramped. Best thing is to test ride one & see how you feel.

    How would this go on long straight roads overtaking road trains etc.
    what rpms over 110klm and the pickup for overtaking

    • @DodgerMohr
      @DodgerMohr  Před 3 lety +1

      There’s not many road trains around Victoria, Australia. I would not attempt to overtake a road train travelling at 110km if I ever come across that situation. I would rather travel at a comfortable speed & enjoy the ride plus take in the scenery. The Kawasaki Versys X300 gets up & travels well, it’s only a 300cc & ideal for touring at it’s capable speed.

    • @phillipanderson9925
      @phillipanderson9925 Před 3 lety +1

      I was only concerned with the need for high revs at 110km/hr
      Over here in the west we have long distances between towns and road trains and caravans during the tourist season.
      So being able to travel at the speed limit and overtake these vehicles is sometimes a safer option especially since they can flick stones on remote roads.

      @@phillipanderson9925 I strongly agree. I’ve travelled a lot of WA but on a 1200cc & it was great on the open roads, especially when it came to overtaking slower vehicles. On the flip side that bike was way to heavy on the dirt roads & tracks. That’s where a lite weight adventure touring bike shines. When it comes do road trips I try & take backroads as often as possible, love riding the Kawasaki Versys X300 on dirt, could do with better tyres but in the meantime stock roads tyre will do.

      Yes the larger bike would be good but I like the light weight on the versys fuel range looks good just unsure how it will handle going 110km/hr for 400klms with the odd overtaking there are some foolish drivers on these hwy’s

      @@phillipanderson9925 If I was doing 400km in a day, I would start early & break it down into sections. Have a break after riding a few hours & most of all enjoy the ride.

    Should i buy this kawasaki or the cb500x. It takes my sleep

      @DodgerMohr  Před 3 lety

      It all depends on what you want from a bike. Highway & main tarmac roads the Honda would be a better bike. Off road & dirt roads the Kawasaki would probably be better due to spoked wheel plus running 19 on the front 17 on the rear.

      Cb500x has no engine character and feels very heavy. I would go x 300 all the way.
