So happy I watched your video! I was able to trace my problem to a burnt up wire using the multimeter! Thanks so much!
Thanks to your video I was able to locate the breaker that was causing my 12v system not to work. I have a 2011 Rockwood Ultra lite 8280WS 5th wheel. After searching all over the camper and not finding the breaker I went to clean out a birds nest in the actual hitch and located what appears to be a junction box and low and behold the breaker that was tripped. Thanks Again
I have a Rockwood Mini. Similar issues as what everyone is talking about. I'm getting battery power to the tongue Jack but nothing else. I'm wondering if the Rockwoods all have these in the same spots. Where was yours exactly?
Dude, thank you for your video! I’m not sure if that’s what my problem is yet cause I don’t have that Handy Dandy Meter thing but I will by the end of day! I have found your video helpful and educational to my 1st week of ever being in an RV life….Thank you again!!
RV Life can definitely be stressful at first but theres a ton of great resources out there on youtube and various forums. Check out IRV2.com for a bunch of great resources if you ever have any questions. Hopefully you solve the problem easily.
Thank you! This video was very helpful in diagnosing and fixing a similar issue in our rig.
Awesome! Glad it helped.
Hey, Austin. Good troubleshooting and fix. I have a couple of old travel trailers and there are electrical gremlins in one. That video should be up on my channel soon. Enjoyed watching your videos. I'm a CZcams creator who lives in British Columbia, Canada. I subbed!
I will check it out!
Many of those 40 and 50 amp breakers have a very tiny re-set button on them. For those with Class C & A, if you run your battery way down and start your engine to charge it, you can be putting over 50 amperes into the battery. With enough time, the breaker can trip and cause the same issue. Sometimes hard to find. Thor has a special box made and put it under the hood. Good luck! Kevin
Interesting. I'll have to check that out if I ever have problems in the future. In this instance I remember hitting the circuit breaker while doing some renovations so I think I cracked it when that happened.
I think this is going to be my problem, Thanks for the video!
Hope it fixes your problem. Good luck!
Thanks for the video following your advice my problem is fixed.🙏🏻
Awesome! Glad to hear that helped solve the problem. Safe Travels!
I also was without DC power for our fridge and thermostat for a few days. Finally found that the lug for the 15 amp fuse for them was loose. Going to tighten them up before each trip.
Thanks Austin, very helpful video.
Glad to help out!
Thank you Austin !
Glad to be of help!
Thank You . . .YOU ~ ROCK ! ! 👍
Rock on! Glad it was helpful.
Good to see Joe Dirt again 😂
Gotta represent haha
Hey, Austin. Great video.. I have an old 1990 Winnebago chieftain 36'. My dash lights aren't coming on. When I pull the light switch the headlights come on no problem but the dash doesn't light up. I tried rotating the the knob to see if the dash light would come on or make it brighter to no avail. I am not sure but I think the dash lights are controlled by the headlight switch. Please tell me what your think. Thanks Bob, San Antonio..
Thanks having same thing going on!
Glad to help!
Cool Brad Pitt has an RV show, it's not negative on the right it's positive on both sides of the relay the relay connects them together
thanks for doing this. how did you test the house batteries? what do you mean getting voltage? I thought I could test the solenoid/relays that are apart of the batt. management system by looking for an increase in voltage from stopped and no sure power to idling that should read >13v
Easiest way to check the battery is either put it on a trickle charger or take it in to a auto store and have them test it.
Great video I have one and I’ll meter that connection. My converter is outputting the correct voltage just not getting to my battery.
Hopefully you can track down the source and get squared away. Good luck!
Hey Austin,
How do I connect a power chord to my house I have a 30 amp on a 2002 itasca
You will need an electrician to install a circuit breaker with corresponding plug to use the 30amp plug. I would just get a 30 amp to 20 amp adapter and that allows you to plug rv into standard wall outlet. Just make sure you don't draw too much power and trip the breaker.
The self setting breaker you found bad is the breaker that everyone says is close to the battery. I had this problem on my 2021 jayco 264bh and found that this self setting breaker near the battery was bad.
Good to know. Seems like every RV is a bit different in how the electrical is wired.
I am having this exact issue at my camper now (Jayco Whitehawk), wife and kid is there. I am chomping at the bit to get there (10 more work days) and find where my problem is. I have a solar set up, but she has to run the generator now for DC power through the converter despite fully charged battery bank at 13.1 volts.
Sucks.
I didn’t know David Karesh was into the RV life
What is the part called and where did you get it from?
It's a circuit breaker. Check out 6:55 time stamp in the video where I show the part I bought. Bought it at O Reilly's. Most auto part stores should have them.
What is the exact name of that part? "Circuit breaker" comes up with alot of things
I replaced mine with a Littlefuse 40amp circuit breaker w/ bracket. If you pause the video on 6:55 it will show you the screenshot of what I used. They have them at your local auto parts store. Got mine at O Reilly's.
Can anyone help me with my 2023 heartland mallard pathfinder battery, not charging when plugged into short power I have checked the converter and every fuse and connection possible I do not understand. This is a brand new trailer.
Hmm that is a weird problem. Have you talked to shop you bought it from. May be under warranty.
I had the same problems as you what is the piece called
There is a screenshot of the part in the video. Good luck!
As long as im plugged into the house my camper is charging and everything works fine until i plug into a generator. Cant find out why
Not sure either. Would have to know a little more about the situation to figure it out.
So, I have my caravan plugged into the house socket, it’s not running off a battery. There isn’t even a battery, it’s just plugged up.
Iv got power to all the sockets and heater, but the 12V DC isn’t working, there’s no power to any of the lights, fridge ETC. sometimes it works, then it will switch on and off. Any suggestions?
If you're on shore power with no battery then there has to be a AC to DC converter somewhere. Seems like it is somewhere between those connections. Are they any fuses inline anywhere? Or could be your converter may be going out if it is really intermittent.
@@theaustinwilt no fuse in-line, if it was the converter though, wouldn’t the plugs stop working also? It works fine for about 36 hours then turns off, and when I switch certain lights on, it comes on and off. It’s my first caravan so don’t really have a clue about them and don’t want to pay some electrician £1000 to fix it. Nightmare !! Appreciate your reply. Thanks
@@lukewalpole6207 I don't know a whole lot about those systems but the fact that its intermittent seems like it could be a bad converter or there is something wrong with the wiring somewhere or there is too much power being drawn at times. Is it a 20amp hookup or larger?
Safest bet is definitely have a professional look at it since a power problem can definitely cause a lot of issues if not resolved. Good luck!
@@theaustinwilt the converter ? I would like to buy a new one and replace it, how do I find out what converter I need for my caravan? It’s a Bailey Pageant. I just disconnected everything, took out the fuses and put them back in, then it came back on, but same again a day has passed and there is no longer power going to the DC, just the plugs again. It seems whenever I unplug everything and take out the fuses then put them back in, it works for a little way, almost like it holds charge for a while ? Then cuts out. Really struggling to figure it out

That was a circuit breaker. Next time you buy one check for one with a small button on them. Those ones are manually resettable.
Hi, could you pls help to check what was removed from a caravan I got for renovation?
Thanks for the tip! Saw another commenter say the same thing so I will have to check that out if I have any problems in the future.
No tengo power en converter no trabaja el aire acondicionado .microhonda refrigerador Ford R V E 350 año 1995

who else clicked for Dana Carvey doing RV repair?
All fuses good inside trailer and still no power, crawl under front of trailer look for acces to fuses and circuit breakets!!
I would think it would have to be something between the converter and the battery then. Sometimes the main fuse coming off the battery is hidden but that's definitely odd.
