I always felt long distance running for any combat sport is good for endurance but more importantly mental conditioning. When you are tired and just want to stop but you push through and keep going. It makes you tough physically and mentally to keep going.
true, also love the feeling afterwards, high af
100% agreeeeed, I think the mental training and mental toughnes is forgotten and running makes you stronger!
Every time I’m running I feel like death near the end. Just gotta push through it 💪🏼
Learned this from David Goggins.
But overtranning gets you to injury 😥😥
As a 30+ year long-distance runner, the reason I can still do 50+ miles a week with no injuries is because I do at least 80 percent or so of my running on unpaved trails. Concrete sidewalks and asphalt streets will damage your joints and bones. Seek out wood chip, dirt, sand, gravel or grass for your running surface. Not always easy when one lives in an urban setting, but if you can find a natural running terrain, it's definitely worth it.
Thanks! Your comment is very helpful
I agree completely. The human body was not designed to run on asphalt. Great comment.
how do u think about Dean Karnazes? and rich roll? those ultra-marathon dudes? they are my heroes now like Tyson and Wilder too ! I respect and love running too !
Stuart Talbott Good advice
I’m glad I found this before I continued running I been running for like 7 months now
I don't even waste my time trying to watch other channels for boxing tips. This dude here is the best doing it. I hate cardio but I might try this.
christian brown could you check my fight on my channel and tell me who won
this guy and coach anthony. two best online. ur welcome.
christian brown FightTips is also pretty good
sneaker updates stop self promoting
World class with tom yankello is the best. He taught many world champs.
I think road work is important to learn the ability to prepare yourself not just physically but mentally. Pro boxers should be out on the road early morning come rain or shine...it's tough mentally to do that day in day out. I know a pro that even considers listening to music as a short cut because it makes the road work enjoyable. So in the last weeks before a fight he runs without his tunes so as to push through that mental barrier and get more focused.
VegasDannyReturns Good idea.
Good way to free the mind and meditate on the fight itself while putting in that horrid work, visualization is good.
That lateral motion, pivot and backwards are incoorperated in my running. They are a must.
I’d rather run 2-3 miles with sprints and these included, than run 6-7miles of with just a steady jog.
It’s good to mix it up, one day aerobic roadwork the next day anaerobic
Bro 2-3 miles is not anaerobic, is aerobic. I would say run 8-10 x 100m sprints and finish with your mile run incorporating the exercises in the video.
@@biscuitoliva7159 run hard, that's what we do at my gym. Mix it up, hard runs, intervals, speed endurance, lactic threshold runs, all that stuff. Just 20-30 minutes is all you need for amateur level.
Long distance Roadwork is KEY in Boxing for leg endurance and good stamina! Marciano, Ali, Fraizer, Hagler, Leonard ALL ran at least 5 miles EVERY morning during training and could go a full 15 rounds! If 15 rounds were still around, I'll bet, 90% of the fighters today would never make it! Old school training for Boxing has been proven effective!
I run 5 miles and the only problem is it doesn’t engage my cardiovascular endurance because I’m never tired, but if I go faster then I can’t finish the 5 miles because I’m tired so what do I do?
But more running, I have lost my weight.
Mike Tyson
@@realpadrino work up to it
@@realpadrino “can’t finish the 5 miles because I’m tired” boo hoo run the miles. You’ll appreciate it when you’re not dry heaving in the 3rd round of your bouts
Even if I go one day without doing a form of cardio I feel like I'm losing fitness and that the next workout will be a killer. Gotta keep the ticker ticking over guys 👊🏼
You've been putting in a lot of work lately JT. It hasn't gone unnoticed, we appreciate it!
Ali, Sugar ray leonard, sugar ray robinson, joe louis, Frazier and Floyd ran so this is a must
svp2010 in the ring?
Well played lol ! Then again, boxing rule n1 is hit and don't get hit, so....
jose padre Yep, Ali had the highest Ko percentage in heavyweight history by running in the ring
svp2010 huh, got emmm
Mike Tyson every morning Catskills training
Literally have been looking for this for days and my favorite boxing CZcamsr uploads this!!
One of the best running videos, short, to the point and with tons of great ideas
Always giving the best tips here
these tips are spot on. i've been bored recently from running and this just helped me get more out of it. cheers!
I'm a straight out beginner just trying to get in better shape and your tips are very valuable to me. Everything you say makes perfect sense.
Great video again JT ! Thanks for sharing all of this with us.
Exactly the tips I was looking for to make my running more worthwhile. Thanks!
Great video JT! Running long distances seem to get monotonous sometimes, so these routines really help keeping it dynamic, thanks a bunch!
Thank you for these videos. I appreciate them immensely. As a woman that’s taking up boxing in my later years for conditioning and self-defense, these videos are extremely helpful to my training.
+Donna M excellent, thank you
Donna M Great job!!!
@@PrecisionBoxing Hi JT
I'm a skinny guy and I'm doin your 30 + min of footwork vdo , daily , except the weekend.
Should I further run daily ? To improve my cardio n stamina ? Pls advise . 🙏
You have the best boxing training videos. Thanks for sharing.
Another classic, will apply immediately, thanks JT.
As always an excellent video with several great ideas that I will incorporate into my running
i was more tired than i am in running when i had incorporated this. Thanks Coach! always quality work and advice! stay safe during the covid too boss :)
Most thorough roadwork video
I love roadwork. Punch running, laterals, backpedalling, sprinting. Was a bit self conscious at first but whatever. It's great discipline and I feel the positive carryover into the gym. Thanks, Coach!
Thanks for all your videos. Great work and super helpful. Thank you
I learn and train boxing for selfdefense. I focus on defensive boxing. Thank you.
Great video, I love how it's became a very well rounded defence and attack run. Healthiest I ever felt was when I took the plunge and frequently supplemented with real roadwork. I think it's got bad press because the experts want to pander to those that are too weak to take part!
I'm a martial artist. I started doing runs, around 5 miles, after seeing the movie "When We Were Kings" and seeing Ali doing it. Now, after many miles of running later, it has been the long time foundation of my fitness.
Docinaplane brilliant, mate 👌
Docinaplane does your ankles or Knees ever give you any problems?
When I first started, I had a patellar tracking problem, but did strengthening leg lifts and cured it. No ankle problems except once when I turned it stepping in a hole. Wrapped it and ran the next day. I wear well cushioned shoes with very little rise so I midfoot strike. Heel striking will give you plantar fasciitis. I stay off of concrete also and run on softer surfaces.
Docinaplane What do you mean by "very little rise"?
Allen, I'm referring to the heel to toe distance from the ground. It's also called toe-drop. This is from Runners World : One tenet of minimalist shoe design, however, has become widespread-a relatively low heel-to-toe drop. That’s the difference in the combined height of the midsole and outsole where the back and front of your feet sit in a shoe.
I think about 4mm is ideal, relatively flat. If the heel is too high it can cause PF and other compensatory injuries.
I'm not a professional fighter but I like the train l8 one. I'm going to use some of these techniques tomorrow morning on my run thanks
This helps so much! Thank you!
JT is awesome. Thanks for the great videos!
Running side to side with arms movement is my absolutely nr. 1 exercise. Also I add jump back to it. Amazing tips! Subbed :)
Love your stuff! God bless brother!
Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing
Thanks a lot!
Your vids are great man!
Thanks. Keep up the good work. !!
Thank JT for the tip. Gonna do just that.
Thank you, very helpful :)
These are so true everything about this video is on point.
Throw some high knees in there and you're set.
i have been doing these for long....this helped in footwork and evading punches..
Great information, thanks that I will apply 💯🥊
Awesome content again, love your channel. For Wing Chun class warmups we do some side shuffling, switching, two and two, forward and backwards jogging around the school, I see how it really helps lower leg quickness, agility, and footwork. I need to start doing it down the sidewalk at home too. Kind of like when we were kids running around.
thanks man these are some amazing tips
Thanks for boxing tips and I love boxing
I’ve been running 3 miles everyday thinking it would get me in shape for boxing and I was wrong. I’ve been doing sprints recently and those helped a lot. Long distance isn’t bad it’s good to break those mental barriers.
Thanks coach!!!
you are the best teacher i have learn many thinks from you keep the good lob greetings from greece
Great video! I've just been hitting the treadmill to work on baseline conditioning as I prep to start training at a boxing gym once I move next month, will have to start going outside and incorporating some of these other movements too.
dude great video, thank you again!
Excellent video!
That lateral motion is a must first time I did this in boxing gym my legs fatigued quick.

Great info boxers and MMA fighters sometimes neglect these important aspects of training.
Clifford Starks like C.M? :)
Dean Bee sorry what does C.M. stand for?
Conor Mcgregor he doesnt run apparently and has cardio issues! :)
Dean Bee 😂😂😂 yes it would help Connor
Dean B Or do you mean C.M punk? Lol

Running for boxers is part. Of the fitness which is, extremely important, 🏃
great video
u are the best!
this is a good tip thank you iv yoused it and I wun a mager fight last week
Good tips
Running is about building your aerobic base. That does two things if done correctly: it expands the stroke volume and efficiency of the heart; it improves metabolic function, improving the way you convert energy in the body. The effect of both these adaptations is that you will be able to operate at a higher intensity (more watts) for longer (more mins). That is going to translate to a much higher performance in any sport period.
Thanks
The best thing you can do is trick your feet up, pivot, back peddle, 180's, 360's. It's awkward at first but keep working on it you build such a solid foundation for the ring. I been doing this since I started running, same with skipping, never stand in one spot. Ali did this which is why he was able to move like he did in the ring. Ppl overlook running because they are used to training it like they are about to enter a race and you're not.
Their were times, where I used to run long distances (10-12km) 1-2 per week, but since the last few years I quit those long runs, because I got to the point, where I realized that I'm a fighter and not a marathon runner. Instead of that I focused more on power and explosiveness, but after watching this video I'm concerned that road work with these implements will take my training regime to the next level. Keep that great work up!
Honestly I reach my peak fighting shape when I am running 6-7kms 4-5 days a week.. 10-12kms is too long and impacts the body too much in my experience.
when I am jogging often I tend to slip more easily in and out of a rhythm when I am sparring and remain loose. Like when you are in-the-zone at the peak of your run, moving your body with synchronicity and breathing deeply without having to think about it.
Road work is vital, you can always see the difference between a fighter that doesn't and does do road work.
I tried this and it felt good and it improves my dodging skills 😅
What on earth are those who did thumb down??!!??? This is one of priceless materials.
11 haters went to grab another beer! this is awesome info!
I'm having a beer now.
I ran 5k earlier.
Count fucking liar
Damn they have are multiplying
Simply running is boring. For me it has always helped to add variety. Playing basketball is a good way to work in those lateral movements, many times with hands up, or working the hands in several ways. Tennis has also helped me. Those short burst sprints cannot be overlooked for serious training. This is a great video. Thanks
I mix in footwork drills, jumps, lateral and backwards running, pivots, BIG TIME.
when I run at the track or the field just inside the track, I'll do the two long legs of the track mixing directional running, and the short legs I'm doing punching while moving in different directions or bounding and jumping drills
ie:
150 m alternating lateral running
50m side shifting or changing relative direction while throwing punches
150m running alternating forwards and backwards
50m running with a "6 step" jump sequence in the middle
(bounding or lateral bounding or broad jumps or carioca or w e), and cartwheels and double leg shots and sprawls thrown in at will
This is while running a ~1hr 10km

Been in boxing for 2 years thinking about going back (Hajime No Ippo)
Hell yeah
Hajime No Ippo made want to do boxing, it's such a good anime.
Awesome anime
Any sort of movement is good dont overthink it just get up and do it running ofcorse is great for boxing because its making u fitter
i jog 3 miles sometimes 6 miles, and i am throwing loose jabbs, hooks crosses & uppercuts and i will start the footwork driills& deflections as you suggest here Tnx.
Every time I run I feel like death. Just gotta push through it💪🏼
I been doing sprints two times a week.
I don’t do boxing but I do Judo. I’m trying to add a long distance run to my training.
Yes champion
I do everything you are talking about in the video
inspired me to get out and do it
And this is why...treadmills suck. Great video 👍🏼
Punching while running
Lateral steps
Backward steps
Forward lateral
Backward lateral
30-40 minutes of roadwork
Putting here for my notes*
I am pretty consistently getting 4 miles in under 30 minutes now. I need to add some of this stuff in, but if I don't set a clear pattern or goal then I won't feel as obligated to push myself.
Can u post the full video of ur full run plz
