    Your exact painting style is what I would idolize! I come from the tiny "get every eyelash exactly perfect!" world of portaits; and as of a few years back (I'm 61, and thats a long time, from doing one type of art skills since I was about 3!) I love your way ofiintroducing LIFE into the painting-you're the one of best pastelistout there, and that's saying alot! THANKS for the videos! I'm very appreciative, as I can't afford many art lessons. Kudos!

    She's pretty amazing. I have learned so much just from watching her utube demos. Thank you Marla!

    Wonderful illustration of impressionistic style landscape. Love how you build up the path, the background and every detail without... the details. That's what real masters do.
    Thanks, Marla, for sharing.
    It's looks like I should brake my pastels to pieces, hah?

    Dynamite video! I love Marla's work & this answered my question--does Marla blend her pastels with her fingers? She does! Some pastelists are really nutty about never touching the 'crystal structure' of the pastel. I don't see how one can achieve moody effects without it. Marla is a truly great artist because she can tell how smudgy random marks up close will 'read' as trees, river, grasses, etc., from a distance. I hope I get there some day! Thanks, Marla! MaryB

    I do wish artists would tell their videographers to forget they have zoom capability and just stay focused on the painting.
    Aside from that, the work is lovely.

    They do look very creamy, and really stick and show up vividly. I am also very curious about what brands you prefer. Especially what brands have you found work the best, because I saw a bunch of pieces of pastels next to you. I bet you have tried your fair share if different makers ;-) Thank you

  • @dparkstudio
    @dparkstudio Před 11 lety

    I usually buy half pieces. If they are not, I break them in half. That way you can use the sides and have a sharp edge for details.

    Ida in my understanding there are different "roughness" of paper and it it's too rough you dont want to "smooth" your finger over it...I have tried, not any more.

      Hi Renzo,
      Yes I do reply. See my reply to you about the white vase video! This particular video was posted many years ago before I really knew very much about filming or posting to CZcams and in this case, the image was from my imagination. I'm always trying to get better at this! Thanks so much for watching. I really appreciate it and do pay attention to what people have to say!

    I noticed a distinct creaminess to the pastels at the midpoint of your painting. Are they a different brand? Do you begin with harder pastels and then change to softer ones as the painting progresses? I would like to know the brand of those softer ones if I may ask/
