It does look impressive for battery powered tools! Problem is, that's the equivalent of two gallons of 2stroke mix, which last about an hour per tank, and takes seconds to refuel. Also, the outlay for this setup would be astronomical for a sole trader like me! I'm looking at Milwaukee 12.o batteries for my newly acquired brushcutter, and they are at least £165 each!!😮
Changing a battery is like changing a magazine on a weapon.
Pouring gas is annoying and takes way longer.
After dealing with gas implements in the fire service for years, though I would fight tooth and nail against any forced use.... I would much rather run battery than gas.

James great video as always!!..but to be honest, the one thing that has frustrated me about battery operated lawn equipment is the cost of replacing the batteries!!..The amount of money of all those batteries and the equipment to charge them all must be staggering…I suppose for the business person it would be an option but the replacement cost is unrealistic…it’s like buying a new gas powered mower every time one of the larger AH batteries die!
I've seen this setup at a lawncare show where they had it setup in a trailer. This is a cool idea from EGO.💚
We have a lawnmower ZS with 8 batteries, and use that as charging station. Easy peasy, but: we dont have the option charging to 90% 😢

I wish Ego would fix the battery reliability issues. I do want to get the PGX system though. I am waiting to move in my new shop before I buy. I wonder how far I can monitor from the app. Could I connect the charger to internet so I can monitor away from the shop at say my house for example?

At Pipeline they announced a similar charging idea with a new 6 bay packout charger. From my understanding no hub is required. They also have a new hub like device that you can plug a bunch of other chargers into that mimics the functionality of the new packout charging system. I can’t confirm this but I expect you could plug other brands of chargers into this hub device and get similar functionality.
I run all ego and ive looked at this system and their battery charger box(the one that'll charge 6 normal batteries and the 28ah commercial backpack battery at the same time), but i can't justify the cost when I can charge faster than it.
I have:
1 turbocharger
6 rapid chargers, and
The ride on mower(a 6 slot charger)
All up, thats 5.6kw's of charging per hour.
I have 12kWh's worth of Ego batteries, so to recharge from empty to full it takes around 2¼hrs 😉
Yes i have to swap a few out, but as you can see, egos claim to charge 14kWh's over night, i can do that in 2½hrs 🤣
Love the look of that app. I hope Ego NZ peomptly set it up here. As you can tell, im a numbers person, so that information is great to have.

We use cramer 82v tools, and have a 6 battery slot trolley. Charges upto 6 8amp batteries in 2hrs!
We have a mix of 4-8amp for chainsaws hedge cutters blowers and hand mower. There great tools even have a 82v ride on zero turn. U should check them out.
They must have dealers near you if we do in Cornwall lol.

With tye UK and Australia Both using 240v why is it not a 3000Watt Charger, must we constantly be restrained but the Low quality USA 110 Volts system
With that many lithium batteries charging i am surprised that there is no fire proof backing board or warnings about placement near inhabited areas

Love the EGO gear, but “battery optimisation” is marketing BS for a major design flaw that needs to be overcome in battery technology. You think that you have a 5 Amp/hour battery, but the fine print states that you should not charge it above 80% to 90% or discharge it below 25% to increase the Batteries already short life - so in reality you really have a 3 Amo/hour battery and carrying around dead weight.
EGO 12ah in the UK is £465.00 … but you really just spent your hard earned money on a 7.8ah battery.
You can absolutely charge lithium batteries to their rated capacity, it's just that they shouldn't be stored while charged at their rated capacity. Ego batteries have a built in BMS that discharges batteries that haven't been used for a while (I think it's 15 days?), likewise the BMS helps prevent discharging below recommended voltage. Ego's estimated usage times are based on actual usable time, not the theoretical time based on raw voltage and capacity. That said they're usually optimistic because they typically show the usage time in their low or ego mode on the tool. Even then Ego has some of the longest run times in the industry.
@@mechanought3495Oh dear … no one is saying that you cannot charge to 100% or discharge to below 20%, so as long as one is happy with much faster battery degradation and losing energy density, to the point you have a very short runtime, or unserviceable battery. EGO admits in their dodgy marketing with “Battery Optimisation” mode - yes, let’s lug around a battery that you cannot use 35% of so it will last longer.
It’s a choice EGO offer that others aren’t yet offering Gareth. It’s entirely up to you if you use it or not my friend.
