  • Nicole Ramos joins the NEWSTART Kitchen to show you how to make mouthwatering plant-based sausages. Feel free to play around with the seasonings in this recipe. They work with just about any combination. Try maple-sage or Italian sausage seasonings. Brush bbq sauce onto the sausages and bake for a sweet and sticky experience. Serve in buns as a sandwich, sliced into your favorite pasta sauce, with potatoes and bake them for your next dinner party!
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Yields 8 sausages
    Wet Ingredients
    • 1/4 onion
    • 1 clove garlic
    • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard seed

    • 1 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup
    • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
    • 1 tsp liquid smoke

    • 1 cup chickpeas
    • 1/2 cup water
    Dry Ingredients
    • 1 cup vital wheat gluten

    Instructions
    1. Cut rectangles out of parchment/baking paper (approx. W: 5.25”, L:4.5”) and foil (approx. W: 6”, L: 5.25). Set aside for sausages
    2. Put all wet ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth
    3. Put all dry ingredients into a bowl and mix
    4. Pour wet mixture into dry and mix until dough is formed
    5. Kneed dough until well incorporated
    6. Divide into 8 equal parts

And can you use soya beans as a substitute , legumes like soya are much easier to find here . Chickpeas are available in our country but I don't have access to then right now where I'm at .

Looks tasty ☺️☺️I'm sure this would really make you feel like you're not missing out on anything as a Vegetarian . I'm one too , I'm from Malawi ,Africa . It's a really small place and I've barely seen Bragg's Aminos in shops etc what would you substitute with ? and there some herbs you've put and I hardly heard or seen em here ... Is there another simpler simpler recipe 😂❤️

These plant-based substitutes have several problems: 1) why use fake meat, if the point is to get the patient off meat? 2) they're a processed food, and as a result, woefully deficient in nutrients; 3) the protein in plant sources has 1/2 the bioavailability as that of actual animal protein (e.g., beef) and 1/3 that of whole eggs. The body requires protein, and the protein in plants, alone, is insufficient -- not to mention contraindicated -- for humans. The science behind this truth is spot on. The *real* problem is the excessive carbohydrate intake by many vegetarians, not to mention woefully low fat consumption. The research is out there....don't be taken in by the deception, especially when someone has something to sell.
