This disturbing story by Daphne Du Maurier was previously adapted for BBC radio in 2001 (I've got that version on the channel already), and it's best known to many through Nicolas Roeg's classic film adaptation. This new radio version was part of a season of programming celebrating Du Maurier's work, broadcast in early 2024...
MYSTERIOUS MAGPIE is a channel devoted to ghost and horror stories on British radio, and to dark tales of every kind. I have another channel, MYSTICAL MAGPIE, which is all about stories of fantasy, mythology, and adventure: / @mysticalmagpie-wo5fn
If you're interested to know more about the century-long history of ghost and horror stories broadcast at Christmas on British television and radio, you might like to check out HOLLY WRAITHS (and its companion volume HOLLY TERRORS), an A-Z guide available in paperback and ebook from Amazon and Lulu.com.

Thank you for this very well done dramatization of the classic story! Try to see the 1973 movie version starring the late, great Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. Really unnerving and worth the watch!

Oh no, I love the film - as you say, incredibly unnerving. There's an earlier BBC radio adaptation on this channel too, from about twenty years back, also well done.

Unless you're British, it's hard to understand what they're saying when they're mumbling half the dialogue. I have this problem with lot of British productions which is really frustrating.

If you listen again you'll be able to hear it or understand it better, it works 😊
