  • We figured, since we've disassembled and reassembled the Surge a bunch of times, we might as well share with you on the steps of the process.
Breakthrough Clean Technologies Battleborn PTFE grease is probably the best thing to use on the moving parts of the multitool.

Thanks for the tutorial. I have an original Leatherman that is very stiff. So this will help me disassembling it, and lubricating it so it functions as new.

Thanks for the video! I think if tools had washers in between each other too they would open and close much smoothly..

Thank you sir. I really messed the position of the tools and washers on mine even hough I cleaned it at least 10 times now. All is well and in order and is smoooth as butter, as I use mine on a daily basis and it gets durty pretty quick.

Awesome, thank you, I needed that. I found a Leatherman Surge, so I don't have the warranty, so I needed to know how to do that. It has 3 broken blades and is missing the screwdriver flip over tool, but buying the missing parts is way cheeper than buying a new Leatherman. You made my day.

@@realitypreferred7084 No, I haven't been East of Utah in 5 years. I found it in my back yard. I thought it was buried under the concrete steps that we are replacing, but it was left by one of the demolition crew. I returned it to him today and told him about Leatherman's excellent warranty of which he was unaware.

@@matthewarnold6794 I asked because I had to "hide" my Surge outside of an event at Carnegie Hall last week because they were using the metal detector wand (which they never used on me) , and someone found it and decided they should keep it, instead. Just curious. Thanks. Kudos to you for returning it!
I ordered a customized Charge with my name and phone number on it as a replacement.

Thanks! I was able to remove a broken serrated blade from my Wave. also I had a modified regular blade that I wanted to put on my new Curl. The blade on the Curl is too long & sharp, and probably would upset the Safety Manager where I work... I had modified the blade on my Wave to a Tonto like chisel, which I use a lot at work to disassemble dispensers. Anyways I was able to get everything back together! Thanks!!! IMHO

My surge didnt have those washers on the outside bits just the inside ones, i took it apart and wasnt sure were thry went exactly but luckily there was little round marks on the bit holders to show were those washers went. My surge also has a eye glasses bit which i didnt see on yours, that was the reason i stripped mine down because my eye glasses bit broke and was difficult to extract. Thanks for the vid🤙

    Hello very interesting video!
My surge have only one steel washer in the internal tool on the side of bit holder and can opener... and 2 steel washer in the side of awl, large screwdriver and small screwdriver, like you.
Than, on the jigsaw holder have 3 bronze washer, 2 on frame side and one on screw side. You have one and one.
I think leatherman final assembly workers works with no clue. Or poor QC.
In external tools i put one washer per side, and not 2 on one side and 0 on the other. The blades are more smooth and liner lock ingage a lot more solidly and tightly, becouse the blades are closer to the frame.

  • @inhalefarts

One of the top reviews on the Surge on Amazon is of a guy saying that "if you get the black, make sure to first take the whole thing apart to strip the paint from underneath the washers and lubricate the spots then reassemble".
I guess I can see the coat being more likely than just bare stainless steen to get dirt in it and get gunky or something maybe? I don't know, how do you feel about that?

I accidentally dropped out the pin for the removable bit and can opener, and two washers came out with them, but one is much thinner than the other! Does anyone know where to put each one? I can't help but think there's a good reason why they're different thicknesses?

      Absolutely NO.
Leatherman warranty in Italy and Spain change my damages tool even if I disassembly. Ever.
In USA is the same i think.
Plus, aren't no seal or mark to understand that it has benn disassembly.

Why not just soak the tool in alcohol without breaking it down? Blow out the alcohol and then put on penetrating gun oil. You are doing more than I do for a gun that I count my life on. Seems like a hobby but not necessary.

Did you not hear, it’s a video for people who can’t send it to leatherman and it’s a video for people who can get the parts and need to swap it out, even for modding. It’s a diy video bro. It’s in the title a disassembly video. Not a only way maintenance video 🤦
