Danny watching you walk and sling your lime gave me a memory flash back to when I was 4 watching my grandpa in his garden, I am 59 and he passed when I was 5 thank you for that memory. Looking forward to harvesting when my bush and pole green beans start producing, my bush bean are struggling can’t figure out what they need to get them going tried fish emollient and added some bone meal today so praying they perk up

Danny I enjoy your channel a great deal. I am glad to have found you two. Your channel is one of three I watch. Yours is first on my list. Always you two are a ton of information, one gardening, canning, and just living. You take me back to when I was a little boy, being with my grandfather, who I loved dearly. I hear a lot of what you say, on life and living it, As well as just being a good neighbors . all of which I have heard from my grandfather. It's like everyone these days have forgotten how we are suppose to treat one another. And to look to ourselves to take care of our needs, not to look for a hand out from the government. Thanks for all your information on gardening, canning. As well as your time on the porch my friend. People like the two of you as well as myself and others like us, who were raised to be respectful, be good neighbors, are I guess a dieing breed. We were raised, you run into a problem to work it out ourselves or do without, until we had what is needed to allow us to get it straight. As much canning as you guys do it would be worth getting a 23 quart to double stack. Good video

We picked our beans and got 14 quarts off of 4 8ft rows. First pickin. Expecting more next pickin. Love your videos. We live in northern Illinois but learn a lot from you even if our season is shorter and later. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Good morning. I love fresh green beans. It was helpful to see the blooms on the plants and the size of the plants before you picked them. I thought green beans grew up and vined but I guess those are pole beans, so much to learn. Those are beautiful!

Bush beans do really well where I live, I had to pick them every other day all summer last year. I planted both bush green beans and bush wax beans, we like to mix the two in the jars when we can them. They are great mixed together that way and look really nice in the jars.
Mulching your rows helps. It's rained almost every day here.
Thanks for sharing! Reminds me of when I used to help my Grandma snap beans. I can't buy "crisp" beans like that at the store anymore. Hopefully mine will do well this year.

I take ashes out, and I put them on my garden to.
We do too when we have them, but we had a mild winter. We only had to build 5 or 6 fires. Thanks
Home grown peas... being washed in a drywall joint compound bucket... Might as well water them using a tide jug too.
This bucket is several years old I doubt there's anything in it that would hurt the food.
@@DeepSouthHomestead I understand your doubt, but it seems kind of counter productive. I mean, is it hard to find a bucket that has much less risk? Of course, buckets are plentiful. Im saying I think its worth the time and effort to use a non cancerous bucket. All those months of growing and then in that bucket, just makes me sad. Its wonderful that you grow, thats 99% of the battle, but do yourself a favor. Although plastic is hard, almost every surface has pores, including glass surfaces which is why Rain-x works. So, although you believe that everything is removed from the bucket, there is no way to be certain. Thanks for the great videos though, happy growing brother! Get a new bucket! Burger king sells pickle buckets for 2 bucks around here, or a local baker probably just throws out the buckets.

Back in the 1970s I read that MARIGOLDS repel nematodes.
From then on I always did a turn under crop of Margolds and a crop border of Spanish Marigolds which are compact plants.
Over all of the years I never had another incident with nematodes.
I also include Nasturtiums..... both Nasturtiums and Marigolds are edible.
Good thing about green beans is they can up fast.
It threw me off at first seeing Danny in a knit cap at beginning of this video; I hadn't yet realized it was a compilation of the whole process even though it says so in the title. (Silly me) I had just watched Patara over on Appalachia's Homestead and she was wearing a knit cap too, so I was worrying about freakishly cold weather in the south today! Great info, as always. Hope you get some good rain soon.

Can you put beef broth into the canning process or would that affect the way it stores?

We have woven wire fencing around the property but they still jump it from time to time.
Contenders do great down here in East Texas too, that and Rattlesnake pole beans. Your beans look great!

Danny, Which bean do you like best please, contender, Rattle Snake or Missouri wonders ? I planted a bush bean last year and not sure what they were since the tags on the plants were gone . first time planting in WA. and they did really well . Thinking there might be more beans on a pole bean or does it matter . Not a large area to grow (back yard) .Thank you so much . An early harvest is indeed a blessing. I know you depend on the rain for most of your watering but what method do you use when having to supplement the rain? Hope you be getting some rain soon.
+boilednuts Whats in the field just depends on God for rain.Our containers have there own watering system thats shown in one of our videos.

😊what a wonderful video, learned so much, I was wondering do you use new jars and lids, rings or repurpose just the jars, also once the canning is cooled do you store the jars with the rings or what would you recommend my husband and I make a few varieties of jam, mostly Strawberry jam and Apple Jam and recently made some Apple Butter, I can't wait to make some canned green beans and carrots for a variety,

These are contender green beans. They are bush beans not pole beans. They are the best bean for our area. We can the day we pick. We are still eating canned green beans from 2011. They are still as good as the day they were canned. Thanks

Danny, green beans are probably my favorite vegetable and I'm trying to grow some but it's not going very well. I think what I might end up doing this year is buying a bushel at harvest time ( in Canada, zone 5, that's the end of October ) and then either freeze or can ( stange expression when they're in a jar :-) ) them. Here's my question. I do not have the jars, the big pot or anything else you used in this video.. I do however have chest freezer. What is the difference between freezing them and canning and is it worth it to purchase everything to can if you don't already own it?
We have put them in the freezer. If you blanche, ice water and dry afterward, then bag them. If they have water on them when you freeze, they become mushy when thawed. Some people cook and season them and then freeze in containers in the water they are cooked in. When you thaw these out, they are better to me than just blanching and they are ready to eat. Purchasing the canner and jars, lids etc. is expensive, but if you are planning on gardening and preserving food, or buying lots from a farmer's market, then it is a wise decision. But you can freeze if necessary. Thanks
I've heard that a good rule of thumb is that if it grows below ground, you have to blanche but if it grows above ground, you don't. ?
Blanche it all if you're going to freeze it. Just my 2 cents worth. I've had good luck blanching it all and I freeze a lot.

+moblackbird They only last for a couple weeks in this heat. They are a cool weather plant.

We have never had any in our food. Some of our green beans are 5 years old. Still taste great.
Who in the world is going to pick all those beans?
If you have 16 inches of space about 8-10 long..beside the porch....anyone could grow green beans...I call them "depression food".they could take a family through a depression -WW2- ..feed you all summer and some for the winter....my grandpa grew beans..corn.. peas..potatoes..tomatoes,o ions,chives and fruit trees..🐇🐰🐇..rabbits for fertilizer and protein ..etc..while living downttown ..
