    skypots.com/ My friend Ryan Benoit of The Horticult just launched SkyPots, a way to turn any normal pot w/ a drainage hole into hanging pots that you can chain together.
    You could definitely DIY something like this, but some of the design choices Ryan made I really prefer over a DIY - the sealed flanges prevent leaking while also allowing diffused drainage to the pots below. It's also REALLY sturdy and keeps the pots from moving around or jiggling.
    Ryan has been an engineer for 20 years, but is in love and obsessed with plants just like I am. This is his first project and it's been really fun to see him put so much effort and time into it, and I really want to see this succeed for him. I figured I'd bring it to you guys to see what you thought!

      Meh ... I mean you can make macrame yourself, it’s free, make as many as you want, custom made to your needs (length and number of vertical pots in a row), achieves the same thing but because it’s custom it probably better - so I’ll stick with macrame and would recommend it above this system

    You should make a hook that’s flat on the bottom to glue on to a terracotta saucer so you can cap off the bottom with nothing visible under it so it looks clean hanging and you still get a saucer on the bottom. 😊

    Wow, this design is so economically elegant in its simplicity- I think it’s so brilliant. I’m not sure many people would realize how many problems it solves at once ,and achieves this with so little.
    While, yes, it is mostly incredibly replicate this concept, everything kind of hinges on those flanges which provide support without restricting the flow of water, and I have not been able to crack the nut on the best way to solve for that yet.
    Even if and when I do (just because I think it’s fun) I’ll still be supporting this product and purchasing a set to offer credit where it’s due!

    That concept--using the drain hole of your pot to secure the hanger and even build a stack of pots if desired--is brilliant. I bought one of your kits and will buy more. The only part of the design I'd suggest changing would be the little cup that hangs below and captures excess water. First of all, it really doesn't capture a significant amount of overflow. And second, the hook it hangs by isn't much of a hook! That little cup gets knocked off the bottom with almost no provocation. Brush against it, breathe on it, strong breeze coming in--it's not worth the hassle.

    Love your video! I was wondering if you have any ideas on how to catch the draining water, when using a planter that already comes with a plastic hook hanger? These are usually for outdoor hanging planters, which are purchased from nurseries with the plants already included. It seems redundant to use a macramé type hanger in order to place a saucer under the planter base. I am trying to save my geraniums and ferns from the frigid Chicago weather.

    • @harrymyhero
      @harrymyhero Před 2 lety

      You could string up clear plastic trays that you can buy anywhere any size, poke a hole on the high side for string and tie them up to the wires maybe? Or maybe even find a planter tray that matches yours.

    Greetings from Acapulco. I like this idea but I need (my value system) to do this using recycled materials. Sorry! (Not really sorry) I love terra cotta but find the price of them high. Typically I reuse plastic containers which over time/sun shine will wear out which is fine because the plant also needs refreshing.
    I could probably jerry rig this using my husband's excellent micky mouse skills but he is getting tired of my crazy ideas so only time will tell.
    I would like to suggest that you date your videos. Some ideas never get old. I am close to 70 and I utilize many of my grandmothers ways of improvising. I just think dates are important esp when there are contest or other time sensitive information.
    I am also hesitant to order out of country as shipping and importation are factors are a cost problem for me. Thank you!

      @@Arokhantos I've been growing in stainless prototypes in my garden for over 4 years now with thriving plants and no rust :-) A little surface rust might develop and it can be polished off but also not likely to effect soil. Great concerns though and it's the reason I chose not to go with galvanized or zinc coated. Stainless is harder too so the rods will not bend easily. I really wanted to make a product that will last a lifetime.

      Rabbit, If you used parts from the hardware store like large washers, nuts and all thread, you would completely obstruct drainage and kill the plants. The patent-pending invention is the drainable flanges with an offset drain chamber. There is a DIY version that we shared on The Horticult using test plug plumbing fixtures from Home Depot to create the drainable flange. The DIY version was actually more expensive than this version especially since the parts are custom stainless steel and now they can be assembled by hand.
