I’m a 22-year-old American who’s never heard of this show before, so not sure why this was recommended to me. Still, I felt an odd wave of nostalgia watching this. Maybe I was a British ‘80s kid in my past life? In any case, this is a sweet comments section. I’m glad so many people got so much enjoyment out of this show.
Most British 70s/ 80s kids could probably sing you this theme tune! A lot of those animated or puppet shows still have a lot of charm. I used to particularly like Camberwick Green and Trumpton
@gaspanda I watched this show even though I grew up in Ireland in the 2000s, it was on Noggin/Nick Jr Classics. I remember watching this, the Wombles, the Clangers, Mr. Ben, and Bagpuss. Good times.
I used to rush home from school lunch and watch this eating my pot noodle and jam doughnut that my mum would have ready for me , rip mum and button moon :-) although I must say I have visited button moon a few times after to much ketamine and trust me blanket sky is a wonderful place :-)
I used to watch this with my mum when I was little. I would eat spaghetti hoops and pick n' mix from tesco while I sat next to her on the bed in her 2-room flat. It holds a special place in my heart.
This brings back some memories....... the 80's were a great time to be growing up. we all spent so much time outside cause we didn't have video games or the internet. Kids grow up too fast these days. Interesting how all the comments for this video are so positive, think it's down people aged 30-40 who grew up easily pleased by simple things. Who needs big budget entertainment!!
Ian Allen is my great uncle. He passed of skin cancer though before I was born and I never had the opportunity to meet him. I love this tv show though!! X
I loved this when I was a child and now my 2 and a half year old daughter watches it.....You cannot beat the classics like this....no violence and such brilliant imagination on what they used for sets!
I was born in the wrong time! The best time was when you had the Beatles, Queen, ABBA, all these classic TV kids shows and you went outside to play or you used a board game. Now we all use mobile phones or go on the computer for hours on end to entertain ourselves. I wish life was just a bit more like it used to be : )
I wasn’t around when button moon was originally aired on TV. However my mum and Dad had many VHS tapes of old kids tv shows. Button moon was one of the few that stuck with me for many years of my childhood and I still remember it fondly
Holy crap. I remember watching this and not following it at all, but at the same... time loving it! Wow, i must've been about 4/5 years old back then....
wow been thinking of this the other day and here i am now watching this lol cant wait to show this to my mate.we are both 26 and both remanis a lot of all the old stuff on tv when we were kids :)
I remember I used to sit with my youngest niece (who was around 4 or 5 at the time) and I'd watch a whole video of button moon with her. And I think I enjoyed it almost as much as she did. LOL.
I remember buying this on video a few years back and gave it to my older brother for a joke Christmas present. My Nephew ended up with it and he wore the tape out from watching it. It just proves old children shows are sometimes better and more liked than the modern stuff.
In my 40's and looked at Fireball X-L5 today and the Woodentops.Think I watched button moon with my nephews as I was a teenager when it was on?We WERE easily entertained back then..LOL!Remember Rainbow?A couple of glove puppets,a camp human and a guy in a dodgy bear suit, then there was Pitkins!Ahhh, memories!
mr Spoon was class...Loved watchin this as a kid...Wish i never grew old then i could live in my childhood with great tv and films. Children of today dont know what they missed.
i remeber having a vhs called bedtime stories - childrens favourites (which i only found out about today) at my great aunties house and i remember it having rainbow and sooty on it and it having this on it but me being reasonably young over the 10 plus years i had forgotten the name of this show and have been looking for it for about 4 years and i have finally found it just hearing the theme brings me back to watching it every time i would stay over at my house and just seeing and remebering how bizarre it was has me wondering how i ever forgot it
This actually brought tears to my eyes haha. I adored this as a little 'un, though it always bothered me that when Mr and Mrs Spoon landed Button Moon was tiny with no inhabitants, but when they got out of their spaceship it was endless. Fairly logical for a toddler, let alone anyone else!
I was born in 2005 but i grew up with 80/90s tv shows bc my parents had them all recorded and i grew up with 70/90s toys bc i had old family members lol but no one my age watched or played with any of the stuff that i did as a kid
This feels so uncanny.. I used to watch this show as a child and my dad watched it as well when he was younger, I randomly got a memory of when I used to watch it as a kid with my dad past my bedtime lol
Aww sorry to hear that! Think of that as a great memory, thats what will help you to remmebr that nice feeling you had while she did it. My mum passed away too, but I try and think of good memories I shared with her and thats what you can do too!
I have a found memory of going up the video shop with my old man and big sister, seeing Button Moon on the shelf and asking to rent it, then my sister hating me all weekend because she wanted Jem and the holograms. Ah the 80s
Aah I remember butter moon , happy days especially when I had no care in the world , no responsibilities , council tax, bills , guilt trips , not being broken into intimacy & then all that innocence has gone forever now, more closer to death than anything else... Yah
oh man! those were the days! such memories come flooding back when i hear that opening sequence man. yeh man...i have a poster of button moon on my wall in my dorm at uni. I LOVE IT!

That "Thames TV" tune makes me sad. It was so often heard on TV back in the day.
Yes, I now know it was on TV before I was born and it lasted long enough for me to experience it!
I used to rush home from school lunch and watch this eating my pot noodle and jam doughnut that my mum would have ready for me , rip mum and button moon :-) although I must say I have visited button moon a few times after to much ketamine and trust me blanket sky is a wonderful place :-)
ijuyyyyyyy

When shows were simple
I used to watch this with my mum when I was little. I would eat spaghetti hoops and pick n' mix from tesco while I sat next to her on the bed in her 2-room flat. It holds a special place in my heart.
God i get shivers whenever i listen to this again.
Thank you mum and dad for letting me watch these amazing shows as a kid 💙
This vid has over a million views - I think that shows what an effect it had on people's lives.

Why do I wanna cry O,O
was born in the early 80s so have fond memories of this and many other 80s and early 90s classics, kids TV now just isn't like how it used to be
I would follow Mr Spoon anywhere.
Me too, bro...me too
He spoons well, but does he fork?
A real blast from my past. Grew up watching this. Hell, even the Thames TV intro jingle was a blast from my past too.
love it.
i was born in 81 i remember this well
Ian Allen is my great uncle. He passed of skin cancer though before I was born and I never had the opportunity to meet him. I love this tv show though!! X

I'm 14 and am proud to say that I can have conversations with my elders about the magic that is Button Moon.
