What is the tea pet's purpose? Is it for display as a miniature figurine only? Thanks!

I use for fun, and meantime, if the water hot, I can tell what is for Oolong and Black tea, what is for green and white tea.

There is a meaning that many people do not want to know and which has been voluntarily transformed over the decades . But originally they are a symbol of animal sacrifice . And it is a form of symbolism of making an offer to the gods (today it is by pouring hot water over a clay figurine, but in the early days it was an actual animal sacrifice). The actual symbolism would take pages of text to explain , but i heard the whole story from a tea potter in Yi Xing who also makes tea pets with the remaining of clay . This is not such a happy story , and i am a veterinarian which is why i do not use Tea Pets which are actually in the shape of animals / My tea pets are actually a set of miniature tea pots and cups made of Yixing clay which i bought from this potter .
There is a video about tea pets you might find interesting .
