Air dropped torps have a much smaller warhead than their submarine counterparts. For example the Mk 46 has a 97 lbs warhead vs the 650 lbs of a Mk 48. How they saw you could have been as simple as actually viewing you from above. You were very close to the surface and unless the water is exceptionally opaque you'll be seen from above at that depth. Depth is your friend against airborn targets.
Another example of the game throwing you the impossible curveball just because it can. I'd be heading home for repairs because you can almost guarantee that the next time you make contact with the enemy you will be sunk. It's unfair but there's little you can do about it.
lesson learned... don't hang out near the surface after identifications and everything else requiring you to be near the surface are finished. There are benefits to being deep, not least of which is the helicopter or rocket launch torpedo dropping in your lap.

The millisecond I saw the dipping sonar go down near the start, I knew it was only a matter of time before Magz was counter-detected near the surface. Low noise environment, no duct to hide beneath and the enemy proactively conducting ASW searches right from the start means they knew SOMETHING was near them.
All aircraft have Magnetic Anomaly Detection (MAD) and they will always provide a reasonably tight bullseye for solutions, so hanging around the surface is very, very risky. (which is often necessary in the South China Sea due to much of the AO being in shallow waters)
Always hang around at least 450 feet below the surface if you can. MAD stops working 100% of the time at that depth, though you will have to be mindful of your screw/prop noises vs dipping sonar and sonar buoy positions too.
I think the Luda stopped thinking it could defeat wake homing torpedoes that way. It is a useable tactic for a surface ship, but useless vs a wire guided weapon.
Or it was having the realization that the safest place for its crew was in life rafts after seeing the other ship explode at the same time as their submarine XD

That Helicopter BS has happened to me several times. It can be bad RNG or a very brief return on their active sonar, but it's really sucky, still. This is why I stay under layers when possible and dive to safer depths after making my attack run.
Heli's can visually see you if your close enough to the surface is my guess.
As a former sailor that worked with torps they dropped it to close to you and it didn't have time to arm. So you should be good with flooding it should only be a dent in the outer hull.
Could that air-dropped have been so close it failed to arm, and all you got was impact damage?
Torp seemed to go through the sub then explode.

That close to the suface in reallity you're vissible, the iranians did it to the americans a few years back got good photo's, nice and clear, perhaps that's part of the game mechanics even though it's not graphically represented.

yeah, it was a strange one. that torp had actually detected your sub, because we can see that it start to curve it's path into your hull slightly after submerging, may be it is really had not time to arm? although if it's start to guide itself, it should definitely be on arming depth already.

If you increase your UI to 1.4 or 1.5 we can see what you are doing better. For the quality of your videos I would expect more subs and likes. Maybe this will help?

This game cheats all the time and that's why I Refuse to play it. That random torp from a Magical helicopter would be enough to get me to uninstall. I can only watch let's plays of these
