Who originally came up with Boomerangs? It's crazy someone came up with this thing that can throw and return back to you.
The returning boomerang was discovered in a few different countries but the non returning hunting boomerang or better known as the Kylie was first discovered in Australia and some still use it today.

I used to have a huge interest in boomerangs when I was a kid, but I lost interest in them as I've gotten older. Now that I've discovered this awesome channel, my feelings of awe, and curiosity have definitely resurfaced. Unlike my dad, boomerang comes back
My friends and I used to play with one of these triple arm boomerangs when I was a young lad (Scotland UK) which we made ourselves based on pictures out of a book and they flew great. We also used to stick bits of card and thin wood onto them to try to get different flight patterns and got some interesting results. That was around early 70s so it’s great to see someone else trying some of these ideas out. Must have a go again sometime. Thanks for awakening an old passion for all things flying. 👍😀

I'm a left hander and started throwing by lobbing a right handed boomerang with my left hand and then discovered the Left-Hand shop in London where I bought my favourite, left-hand 3 footer.
I've got about 12 different ones and recently learned that the Australian Aboriginals had 2 types, one that came back, used to scare the prey into going in a particular direction and the other type, the killing one would be thrown but didn't come back as it was too thick and had no champhered area's like the returning ones do.

So the non returning hunting boomerang you wrote about is better known as the Kylie. I have been asked by many to build them but just have not had time to venture into them. Also the MTA would be a fun one to build and throw.

I've mailed a lot of boomerangs to different customers in the UK. Kept in contact with many of those customers as well and everyone has been so friendly. Means a lot. The only other thing is it requires a really hard throw. Harder than I would expect someone experienced to be able to throw it. I might ad it to my functional art category.

Had one as a kid, similar to your plain blade design you showed at the beginning, with the exception of a short stick in the middle to catch it with. Bought it about45 years ago in Southern Illinois when we were at a family reunion

If you drill a hole in the middle and place a 4 inch dowel, it will still fly well and you can easily catch it via the handle.

Of course, you realize: That's why GOD invented dogs, to retrieve those pesky non-returning sticks. Outside of a good book, a dog is a man's best friend. Inside it is too dark to read. ;-)

Took me back a while to when I got a boomerang. I spent so much time with it at H. L. Bradt School sports grounds. I ended up preferring boomerangs to model rockets as the chances of getting the boomerang back were higher. Thanks for the post.

I used to have a plastic boomerang that had a 1" ring about 8" in diameter and it had 3 arms that stuck out about 4-5 inches. It also had asimilar flight, a good size circle with a helicopter landing.
