    Thanks Jack for another masterpiece. Very beautiful. I shudder a bit every time I see you using the band saw or table saw with those gloves on though. As an ex cabinetmaker, we never ever allowed our employees to wear any kind of glove around machinery. My Dad actually lost two fingers while operating a table saw with gloves on. The glove caught the blade and pulled his hand in.

    • @jb9347
      @jb9347 Před 2 měsíci +14

      Fear not! They're nitrile gloves: skin tight, so next to no chance of catching and as strong in tension as you'd expect a 0.3mm thick elastic band to be, if they ever did.

    • @LuckyTown77
      @LuckyTown77 Před 2 měsíci +6

      The main reason why it's so much is because it's burled would, it's what gives the would it naturally shiny and unique appearance. Burled wood is expensive because of how rare it can be and how sought after it is for its beauty.
      Also because people would literally destroy hundreds of year old trees illegally to get there hands on such an expensive wood, so that they could either sell it, or use it for themselves.

    I do have an idea for the cut off. Hollow out more to shape u want, fill cavity with foam, keeping flat sides. It will be easy to dig out. Make form for epoxy pour. Would make a beautiful flat sided vase. (some sanding required) Hate to see that go to waste. I do some wood carving by hand, and tend to look for abstract or odd shapes 😃 Thank you for your videos. Work is inspiring, drooling over that wood.

    Такую чашку на русском севере называют кукса. Обычно вырезают её вручную. Породу дерева не могу назвать, но анотомическое образование такого типа называется кап ( древесный нарост сформированный из клеток камбия и имеющий множествво спящих почек), возможно это нарост без спящих почек, тогда этом - сувель (= древесная кость) . Но это термины из анатомии растений.
