- As the collection grows, we need more racks. And I'm constantly looking to try out other tubs and setups.
This week we build two ten-high 28qt racks that will be used for our adult male ball pythons and subadult female, boas, etc.

Was thinking about building a hatching rack out of melamine 4 tubs across 12 high. It will be 32” wide and I’m not using dividers/ center supports so hopefully the melamine doesn’t bow lol

Great video I just got into the hobby and am doing research on rack build I wanted to use PVC but it's $125 per sheet so I'm going to use melamine sheet at $50 per sheet also looking for plans

Great stuff, I really don't see the need to go to stainless. These are just as nice and very functional. Been using melamine racks for years. Really like your id cards with the qr codes and pictures! Very professional.

I've read there is suppose to be a gap between heat tape and tubs. 1/8th inch. Is this true and how to achieve it if totes just sit on shelf? Unless tubs have raises feet in corners. Not sure if mine do but waiting on my rack so needing to rig a muscle shelf with heat tape till it comes. Tubs are from the container store

So it doesn’t matter what way you put your heat tape? The heat Element bring down VS up causes no issues?

im confused in the plans it says you use 2 inch melamine with the board size of 49x97x2 and not 96x48x.75 can you use 3/4 inch melamine? are your boards bigger than 4'x8'

Hello what brand bins do you get
Jason, quick question.... when you purchased and used the “Grow it” bedding did it have a weird smell to it? I recently tried it myself and one I cleaned and put it in my tubs they seem to smell off I can’t even explain the smell of it but it’s coming from the grow it mulch.
I didn't notice a specific smell honestly

Awesome build!!!! How is the single piece of heat tape per rack working? Any large temp fluctuations between top and bottom? What size heat tape?

Do you have any problems with the melamine absorbing moisture? I built the 41 rack and its only been a few months but it starting to swell a bit on the undersides.
Not really. I do the iron on edge tape on all raw edges before bringing it into the room. Haven't had any issues yet
I'm curious, how do you make your Labels for each of your snakes with their picture, name, type, ID# and the Square Barcode???

Which is better, solid sides and back, or the ones with just the legs all the way up? Looking into building my own soon and I cant decided if I want closed or open sides

no idea. i’ve never really cared to add it up
I’d really like you to lay out costs retail of how you do builds. Like 8 tubs =$50 for adult tubs *link*, heat tape length = x, etc etc laid out in the description.
These are just a guide. Everyone's product availability and pricing is likely different.
Instead of using the router, why not use a door board, and a circular saw with a high tooth (like 60 tooth) blade. Line up the door board with the bottom of the shelf, clamp it to the side, then run the circular saw along it. perfect cut, LOTS less mess, and with the door board it prevents some chipping of the melamine.

I'm loving these vids and using them to build some racks in my reptile room but as a non American I always laugh at the tub sizes like 28 qts, wouldn't that just be 7G? Or 41qts, surely it's easier to round that off to 10G? Not your problem, keep making these great vids just an observation from metric Ireland
