I am so proud of you for bringing MANGO (the father) into this reaction! Especially his amazing 1998 entry which I still listen to . p.s. Annalisa finished 3rd. Geolier the rapper was 2nd. He actually almost won if it wasn't for the jury vote. I have no idea why he is so popular in Italy. He looks like a mafia guy, quite unpleasant.

You were very good at finding and inserting the videos of the father, Pino Mango, in Sanremo, you neglected the mother, Laura Valente, who in addition to her solo activity was also the singer of Matia Bazar immediately after Antonella Ruggero's departure from the group, in Sanremo 2007 she duetted with her husband in "Chissà se nevica" (which can be found on YT).

Geolier has a large following among Neapolitans around Italy and is quite popular in southern Italy, in areas where there is music, radio and TV that are very different from the official Italian ones. There are singers and celebrities there who are famous only in those places and among the inhabitants of those lands who are lately achieving a certain popularity (often very negative due to their rudeness and ignorance) throughout the nation thanks to social media and some TV series set in Naples and surrounding areas. Geolier's songs are in Neapolitan and have a modern sound that he has been able to adapt well to traditional Neapolitan music and they tell of a world of people in search of social redemption and money, with "powerful" friends (the kind that is powerful in places like Naples) and dangerous and beautiful women, but he was also able to conquer a female audience thanks to his more romantic songs, typical of Neapolitan music. It's easy for him to have good numbers in the charts since a certain type of south supports him blindly while the rest of Italy supports many singers of all types.
As for Annalisa, the situation is rather complicated... Her songs are much loved but are also considered stupid songs created only to be successful on the radio, in fact Sinceramente was judged too "low quality" to aspire to win Sanremo and was in some way a disappointment for many people. She is an excellent singer who over the years has released several songs of excellent quality but without real success, but for a couple of years she has taken on a sexier image and started singing very successful catchy songs and this has brought her many haters, who see in her change of image and music a betrayal of her past only out of hunger for money and fame.
In this situation Angelina had the upper hand, she is young, fresh, she brought a song with good lyrics and complicated to sing, she is charismatic on stage and enchanted everyone. Furthermore, she also performed a cover of her father's song which will remain in the history of the festival, no one has ever created such a strong emotion in Italians and that night practically the entire nation fell in love with her. She had the perfect festival amidst the controversy towards Geolier and Annalisa and in the end she deservedly won.
She was an absolutely deserved winner, not doubt! I have liked the previous style of Annalisa more, but she is in any case a fantastic artist

Good analysis but missing an important point. I'm definitely not a fan, but it's unfair to say that Geolier is only famous and liked by the 'inhabitants of those lands' (what does it even mean? what lands? It's not like Naples is some exotic place). A big part of Italian teenagers listen to rap music and Geolier is a rapper. He is loved and listened to from Calabria to Valle d'Aosta. I have friends living in Trento that know every Geolier song by heart and wanted him to win. And they definitely are not 'inhabitants of those lands'. I don't understand what you mean by saying that Southern Italy has music, radio and TV that are very different from the 'official' Italian ones. Who are you referring to and what do you mean by 'official'? It's not like only what is produced and listened to in the North of Italy is 'official' and the rest is foreign. I don't understand. Italy has 20 regions and each region is just as Italian as the others. So Geolier may come from Naples, but he is liked in Italy. And rappers from the North (let's think about Gue Pequeno, VillaBanks, Shiva, Mambolosco etc...) do not communicate a better message. They just express it in italian, but they all say the same thing... same 'powerful friends'. Stereotypes don't go very far. Angelina herself is an inhabitant of those lands and she loves Naples very deeply.
It's a incredible song. And if she wins we can expect a collaboration with Måneskin, imagine that.
Hard to imagine, but would be definitely interesting to listen to!

Annalisa unfortunately chose a year with a true killer competition. Honestly, as much as I enjoyed her song, and its amazing bridge, as an actual SONG, it was definitely not at the level of La Noia, with its multiple genres, and Angelina showing amazing vocals, acapella, rap-singing, etc. And She was flawless in stage, even dancing excitedly WHILE singing. I had to give her credit on the overall most accomplished performance.
Ive been a supporter of Annalisa for years, but her vocal perforamnce seems to be focused in a narrower range. Ive not noticed any super high note attempts, or something like a rappish style, etc. I want to see more diversity from her, and I want to see her do more than just park and Bark.
I truly hope she can bring a brilliant song in a year without a killer lineup LOL Personally my favorite is "Una Finstra Tra Le Stelle".
I absolutely agree! She should have showcased her vocal abilities a bit more in the song and the competition was tough… And « Una Finestra Tra Le Stelle » is also my personal favourite song of her!

'Under the Sea's is in a major key and the beginning of 'La Noia' is in the minor - how you related is extremely ramdom. I don't think it's correct to refer it to reggaeton as a style. Sure, 'La Noia' is, like you say a fusion of many styles, however, to pinpoint a part of the song reduces it, I feel.

The message is not that one. She is saying that she needs to do something about not being bored, this song is about being bored of life and the needing of doing anything to overcome that feeling.

Just a small note: it's not ""Italy"" that doesn't want to pick female artists. It just happened.
The winner of Sanremo gets first dibs and if the televote (most of which is composed by women, by the way) has a weak spot for Mengoni's soulful eyes, there's not a lot that can be done.
It's also worth noting that the two worst results in the past ten years were women. Women who didn't actually win Sanremo but got the opportunity because the winner refused to go.
In 2014 I believe Arisa actually wanted to go to Eurovision and in some interview she said, that she one day would love to represent Italy there. But Emma was pre-chosen even before the Sanremo 2014
The general rule is that Rai choses the Italian singer for Eurovision. That's it. Only in 2015 they decided to chose the Sanremo festival's winner to represent Italy (in 2013 Marco Mengoni was chosen BEFORE he was announced as the winner of Sanremo) together with the winning song (in the ’80s and ’90s, the Sanremo winners were chosen as Italy's participants but they had to use a different song). The only singer that participated to Eurovision because the winner refused to go was Francesca Michielin in 2016.

While the general rule MIGHT be that that RAI decides (which is the same for each and every single broadcaster), the current custom is that the winner of Sanremo goes. He can refuse and he can choose a different song.
The last internally selected singer was Emma Marrone in 2014 (here you are right, she went because she was chosen, not because the winner refused. And she got bashed, rightly so.
The first year when the participant was chosen among Sanremo contenders (the winner in particular) was 2015.
Considering the results since 2011, it is highly improbable Rai will revert to internal selection. First to avoid endless controversies and second because Sanremo has proven to be an excellent selection.
If Geolier had won, which luckily didn't happen, RAI would have probably resorted to internal selection once again to avoid a PR disaster.

Apparently she'll have 5 dancers around her at Malmoe but to be honest with you...if she perform as well as she did on her very debut at sanremo (1st night was the best) she wont' need any gizmos or dancers.
Just Sanremo stage is so much smaller than the Eurovision one… think about Mahmood. He needed dancers in order to not get lost on the big Eurovision stage. In sanremo the artists are surrounded by prompts, orchestra, in Eurovision it is just you and the visuals and lights on a huge stage

Just checked now. She definitely looks great there even alone! But the stage itself is also quite small and wherever you look - there are always people in the background, which contributes. In any case, we already know she will have dancers on stage and I am sure it will be spectacular!
