  • In this week's episode I talk about Pokemon's least fun minigame the ill named game corner. The game corner gates the three most powerful TMs in the game: ice beam, thunderbolt, and flamethrower. But how does it do it while still being around the 3rd gym? By being awful that's how

I'm very suprised you didn't even mention the fact that (ouside HGSS) you can buy coins with in game money, allowing you to brute force get the TMs later on when you're rich, allowing money to matter more. I honestly ignore the slots entirely and only get coins through straight buying later on in the game, when it's a bit less busted.

I think a big note about the game corner postgame is that it's probably easier to grind money than coins, meaning you can do a few elite four runs then buy coins then buy thunderbolt. Making this balancing aspect only relevant during the game and not as relevant for the post-game.

Hey guys just wanted to let you know that I did a collab with the channel “Jaybee and Milly” a couple weeks back. I appeared on their weekly podcast, so make sure to head over to their channel, watch that video and show them some support as well. It was a great experience, I just didn’t have a way to tell you without uploading.

Technically speaking, gen 4 game corner had timeable slots. Not all the time but when there's a pokeball it rocks to the desired rhythm.

Because once you have already explored that world to it's fullest and got as much fun as you can out of it the first few times it let's you change up how you usually play w/o those moves. Not to mention the fact that in every Gen there were always increasing bonuses or opportunities to excel at the games even if outcome is random. Examples such as Gen 4's Clefairy bonus, HG/SS JP Ver Smeargle's timing matching bonus, as well as Gen 2's Card Flip, Gen 3's Roulette give a break from those if you were getting tired of pure slots. Not to mention the slots were fun. You have a sense of an earned reward when you finally get one cus you persisted. Sure some may get bored from playing them but that no different from getting bored of fights because you did so many.
So yes, I challenge the notion that staying in one corner of a game is a bad thing. Because that one corner not only can teach you real life lessons at no real risk, it can be a place of enjoyment as well as a place which lets you see the entire world from the shared experiences and stories you get from others.

I was hoping you would mention Swords Dance. Meganium can solo like nearly every battle with Swords Dance alone in HGSS.

The only good thing the Game Corner did for the series was the banger Gen 2 & 4 themes

You forget that the game corner also appeals to hardcore rpg players. If you know how to platy, gamecorner isnt blind luck, its skill based. The game corners purpose is also to reward players that have patience and dedication, players who like to be optimal with everything.
I understand the competitive ckomplaint thoi, but the games were never made to be played competitively.
Putting barriers isnt a mistake, the mistake is not making a game of its own to play competitively, uk, an official Pokemon Battle Simulator game where you can build teams immediately, like Showdown

No theyre not luck based, there is some skill to it but you have to figure it out and have timing. Yes, from gen3 onwars nthe reels are pre-set, but that just makes it possible to time, sometimes the games wont let you hit perfect jackpotes even if you time them correctly, but sometimes they do, so yes you can break them
    skill issue

I didn't recognise your name in my subscription list, until I remembered your killer 'more hearts than an underground market in a third world country' joke from last video. Keep it up mate, you deserve way more subs for the quality of your videos.

i never even questioned why this game corner existed beyond japan's gambling addiction, but this does explain things that its meant to lock off content in an awful way.
i'd just brute force buying the coins outright late game to get the shit in them so thats rather counterproductive too.

I’ve started to think for a while about these powerful, no risk widely accessible moves in Pokémon. The three you mentioned are good, and id add surf and return as a few other examples. It makes me feel tired of these universally good moves, and wish there were more moves available to try something different

Most pokemon games are terribly designed. I'll die on this hill.
