    This video turned out quite long, so here are some timestamps:
    4:05 - Analog Oscillator
    11:44 - Noise Oscillator
    15:13 - Sampler
    20:20 - Wavetable Oscillator
    23:27 - Filter Module
    26:21 - Distortion Module
    30:00 - Utility Modules
    33:45 - Quick look at routing (will look more into this in the next videos)

      Thank you so much for the time stamps, just got home from work and want to continue the vid where I left off.
      (please do this with all the upcoming vids in the series) :)

    Awesome awesome video man!
    With regards to DC offset, its pretty much what you were saying. Sound and oscillation waves are typically "AC" or alternating between a positive and negative voltage but "DC" waves do not oscillate but rather have a single positive/negative value. In electronics, where everything is relative to "ground" or 0V, if you have a wave oscillating between +-5V AC, it has 0V DC offset, because its centre is directly at 0V. However, if we were to actually add a DC power source of 2V before/after that AC source, we would find that our AC source now actually creates a voltage between, say, +7V and -3V i.e. we have "offset" its middle position relative to ground by a DC amount.
    When talking about sound, it simply means moving an AC wavetable up and down, and when talking about waveshaping distortion, it also just means to move this wave we are using up or down.

    really excited to hear more from this series ! Even though I have already played a lot with the synth, I still learned quite a lot from how the basic features work together. Can't wait to see more from you ;)

    Very clear and complet tutorial ARTFX! I'm new in music production and you take the time to explain all the news concepts we don't know. You really do quality work man thank you! I'm really waiting for the next part! Also, in the video you were asking a way to easily change the wavetables with "" buttons. Well, actually you can do that by simply hovering your mouse over the wavetable name in the wavetable browser, wait 1 sec and then your actual wavetable will be changed by the new one, which is actually better because you can test several wavetables and when you are satisfied with one, you can click on the wavetable name to get it. You could add this info in the next part ;)

    • @artfxdnb
      @artfxdnb  Před 5 lety

      I know that, but I still think we need two small buttons there, I still need to go into a dropdown menu to browse wavetables, which is not the most intuitive.

    Watching all the Phase Plant tuts out there and came across this one. It's a nice intro do I liked and subbed, hoping part 3 and following will come soon. Particularly looking forward to the sound design ones. And did you find a way to zoom in to the sampler window? It's bizarre that it hasn't been implemented. The wavetable editor goes large and although the sampler currently does not require as much detail (its functionality is limited) it would still benefit from a zoom or larger panel on demand.

    iv loved KHS since the Faturator rack extension :D
    isn't it amazing how much more in depth their products have become????
    i still haven't purchased phase plant, i don't have the money. i got massive X, wish i would have supported KHS first.
    i noticed the demo seemed to really make my MacBook pro fan scream. lol it really works my MacBook.

    I'm sure this has been established already but the HARMONIC adjustment in the oscillators is just the "harmonic series" in musical scale.

    Routing looks pretty simple. Looking forward to Part 2. Ramping up, does it tax the cpu? Any chance you'll have a plastic ARTFX coffee cup?

    So the question is, Phase Plant VS Zebra2?
    Which one 'sounds' better when it comes to the saw wave unison, filters, and fx?

    • @hazmatproduction4562
      @hazmatproduction4562 Před 4 lety

      I have always been a big fan of Zebra 2 & especially the Dark Zebra (with all Diva's filters), but I have to say Phaseplant is better if you have the Kilohearts Ultimate toolbox. With ultimate you can open a full Fabfilter-like parametric EQ within the synth & modulate the entire EQ curve like a filter (which makes limitless filter shape possibilities). After the recent patch you can load Multipass as a snap-in FX within Phaseplant, which allows any KHS plugin to be used in multiband & to be modulated by the synth's mod sources. Multiband everything within a synth? That alone is a game changer & sets this apart from most of the competition right now..
      Aside from that, you can load samples alongside subtractive or additive synthesis in the same patch, you could duplicate sample oscillators & modulate each with different starting positions to emulate granular synthesis. The FM capabilites of Phaseplant are far beyond Zebra 2, Serum or even FM8 honestly. The range of FX available is bigger (if you have the ultimate or pro toolbox). You have practically unlimited oscillators, filters & mod sources available & the wavetable editor is far better than zebra. This thing is like Zebra 2, FM8 & Serum had a love child with a sampler. It's nuts what Phaseplant is capable of & it has the best visualization of any synth with oscilloscopes on each oscillaotor, distortion or filter module you load on the left panel.
      The only thing I miss from Zebra are the MSEGs with looping capability & the tempo syncable envelopes. Other than that Phaseplant blows it away in every regard. Also the key tracking / note based modulation is weird to use & has no adjustable modulation depth curve. I def recommend getting the Ultimate toolbox though if you really want to get the most out of Phaseplant. The filter snap-in is quite limited, but with Ultimate toolbox you can use the Slice EQ as a custom filter with any filter shape you can think of & modulate the offset parameter to use it as a filter. I do still love Zebra 2, but Phaseplant is a very different beast. It's almost unfair to compare something this recent with a 10+ year old synth. It's amazing how good Zebra 2 still is after all these years tbh, but Phaseplant is a lot more powerful.

  • @gonzalodominguez229
    @gonzalodominguez229 Před 3 lety +1

    yes but be careful:
    Wave Table editing LFO editing is badly handled in Phaseplant. Its just to much of editing and not intuitive. Phaseplant also not capable of midi learn all parameters. Also.. and.. allthough it can sound really good...
    those lots of tiny windows are a pain and a big time loss.. for me.. and there is an Idea for this.. and how it could be much more accessible.. i hope updates come.
    Still.. and by far not what i imagine of the Synth of the future... more intelligent and useful updates are the only thing that will help stay in Business. Thanks,!!
