As someone who currently battles severe depression I'm getting pretty sick and tired of these predators using that as an excuse for these actions. Never in my lowest and darkest moments did I think about reaching out to a minor for sexual purposes. Never.
Same mate, and I'll go a step further and say that also as a recovering addict, I'm so sick of people blaming substance abuse for shit like this. Sure, it definitely can impair your ability to distinguish good decisions from bad ones and appreciate potential consequences, but no amount of abuse of any substance is going to create urges that don't already exist underneath. As someone with a history of going to mental health hospitals, I HATE when people use mental health as an excuse for being a terrible human being, because even when I was in and out of those hospitals like they had revolving doors I never allowed myself to be a terrible person.
